We have livestock guardian dogs and run Extreme Dog Fence 18 Gauge around approximately 20 acres of fenced perimeter for our farm in rural Clackamas County, Oregon. We didn't bury the wire, but instead clipped it to the tee posts used for livestock fencing. This product has proven to be extremely durable. Not one line break even after trees have fallen across and crushed the field fencing and snapped strands of barbed wire. It maintained circuit integrity during Beachie Creek fire (2020) which melted the insulation in areas but the wire remained intact and functional. We have tried lighter gauges of dog fencing but they have not stood up to the weather and other environmental conditions associated with an upland farm, and have required lot's of splicing to keep those sections functional. We recently purchased another 2000' spool of Extreme Dog Fence 18 Gauge to replace all sections of the lighter gauge wire used in the fence perimeter. We didn't save any money at all buying the less expensive products. Zig Ziglar used to say "why settle for the get-by when in the long run the good cost less." This is a good product. You will not be disappointed! Excellent product for underground dog fence! The quality and strength far surpasses that of the wire that comes standard in the kits! We've had so many problems with the original wire breaking that I decided to look for better wire. After reading all the reviews, I chose to go with this. I'm glad I did! It was a lot harder to cut through and I even had to turn down the strength because it was beeping a lot sooner than it did with the old wire. The 1000 foot spool was very convenient. I was able to do the whole thing without splicing. Shipping was very prompt as well! The original estimate for delivery was June 9th-14th and it arrived today-a day earlier than the earliest expected date. I ordered some sod staples through prime on the same day and they're not arriving until later today. My babies were extremely happy because they've had to be tied up when going outside for the last few days because we couldn't find the break in the old wire and now they can run and play without getting tangled up. Nice sturdy wire for our invisible fence. The yard perimeter is 700 feet so this worked just fine. I laid out the wire, twisted the ends that would go into the house, connected to the transmitter and plugged it in. Checked for a signal and no breaks. Then buried it about 4 inches (made a narrow trench next to the wire with an edger, then pushed the wire into the trench with a yard stick) or attached it to the base of a chain-link fence with 4 in zip ties. Checked for a signal again and it worked just great. It feels much sturdier than the 20 gauge wire that came with a kit I bought a few years ago. And it was compatible with the transmitter from the kit I bought before (PetSafe). ... show more

Two years ago I purchased a Sport Dog pet containment system (SDF-100A.) I have a two year old Lab/Sheppard who has tendencies on the stubborn side; I needed something to keep him the year. I have an in-town lot on a busy corner. In my never ending quest to keep my grass green and in pristine condition, I aerated last fall. This winter (in MN) I notice my dog wandering the street and enjoying the neighbors’ yards. Turns out I aerated the wire in multiple spot. With the ground frozen my only feasible option was to get more wire. I purchased this wire as since it was the best value for the amount of feet I need. Being in the Minnesota winters and the wire will be outdoors I switched from 20 gauge to 18 gauge. The product was shipped very quickly and does what it is intended to do. The coating is heavy duty which was a relief. There isn’t too much to review on as the product description says 1000 feet of 18 gauge wire and that is exactly what you get. ... show more

Used with an automatic trencher rented from Sunbelt Rentals (out of a Lowes in Charlotte). It was suppose to dig a 4' hole, bury the wire, and then cover the hole. It didn't do any of these things with any kind of quality. The wire broke twice during the process, but I'd blame it on the trencher instead of the wire. I'd suggest using a lawn edger instead of a trencher (I ended up using a pick axe and felt so worn out by the end that I had a cardiac echo sonogram because I though my heart must have had an issue ... all was fine). It was certainly worth buying the wire separately since you didn't get a discount for substituting higher quality wire. ... show more

I recently purchased and installed this "Extreme Dog Fence 18 Gauge 1000 Foot Continuous Spool". During installation, I found 2 defective areas ( one shown in the attached pic ) where the plastic coating/insulation was separated exposing the bare copper wire. Tiny imperfections, yes, but the reasons I purchased this specific wire, was for the continuous length, thicker gauge wire and supposedly upgraded and stronger coating/insulation, as dog fence kits come with 500 ft spools of 20 gauge wire. My yard size required roughly 800 feet of wire. I planned the installation so that there would be one single continuous wire, around the perimeter of our yard, with no underground splices. Well, that was the plan. After finding the 2 individual gaps in the insulation, I had to take a trip to the local home improvement store to purchase waterproof splice enclosures to make repairs to the defective sections of wire. As you can see in the pic, the openings in the insulation are small at roughly 1/8", and was found only chance during installation, which leads me to believe that I will end up troubleshooting this dog fence in the near future due to an unnoticed section of exposed/bare copper wire being in contact with the ground. I have contacted the seller and contacted the manufacturer directly. I will update with any resolution. ... show more
