  • This laptop is more advance than what you think.
Color: Red
- this computer turned out better than I expected. i was searching for a relatively inexpensive laptop that could handle the bare essentials. i couldn't be happier with the speed and performance. the laptop required little to no setup. it was ready to go right out of the box. it boots up really fast and gets me to work right away. web browsing and applications are very responsive as well. it is very thin and light, yet feels really solid when typing on it. i am finding it has enough memory and processing power to run several things at once with no noticeable loss of speed. the screen looks great when streaming videos. Overall, an amazing laptop for the money. i would definitely recommend it to anyone on a budget. ... show more

  • Fully compatible with Linux, serves as Pi-hole DNS server and backup PC
Color: Red
Besides my new, bold red laptop, there were a few items inside the box. I found a small, black wired USB mouse, a white charging adapter, a clear, washable keyboard protector and a short user manual. The laptop is thin and weighs below 4 pounds. It has four rubberized feet in each corner at the bottom side that slightly elevate it, so air can circulate beneath. The keyboard is red as well with white characters, has a keypad and many functions have to be called with the Fn button. However, it does have its own Volume control buttons. What I miss is lights for the keys. Yet, it has three indicator lights right above the keyboard on the left for Power On, Caps Lock and Num Lock. The touchpad is large and has a different tone of red. It makes a click sound when I press on it. It supports mult The 16 inch display has a resolution of 1920×1200. Its aspect ratio is 16:10, which is slightly wider than 16:9 but it’s a difference I can notice, especially when I’m working with office apps. I can tilt the screen up to 180 degrees. I find the colors are displayed accurately and lively. I can set the brightness with my keyboard or through the operating system. There are seven ports in total. On the right side are three ports: one USB 3.0, one headphone jack, on SD card slot. What I find curious is that there’s a small rectangular opening. I thought that would be another port but I couldn’t find any reference in the user manual. Yet, in the listing itself I could find a picture that labels it as lock but I could not find any more information on how to use that lock and what it actually locks. Maybe somebody can tell. Anyway, on the left side, there are four ports: again one USB 3.0, DC power, HDMI, and a type C USB port. On the bottom, I have quick access to the 512 GB SSD and HDD bay. With quick access I mean I don’t have to open up the whole laptop. I just have to unscrew to screws to remove the cover of the SSD; the same goes for the HDD bay. That said, I added a 2.5 inch 320 GB Seagate Hard Drive to the laptop and installed Debian 12 Bookworm. The installation of the second operating system went through without errors and I could boot into my new Linux OS in seconds. I encountered no hardware compatibility issues. By the way, secure boot was off by default and I haven’t changed anything in the BIOS which has been released by AMI on March 29, 2023. I also booted into the pre-installed OS, which is Windows 11. The first boot took long because I had to go through the first time setup and in the beginning, browsing wasn’t fast because Windows downloaded tons of updates. Yet, after the update, web browsing got back to normal. When I opened the task manager, I checked the performance tab and indeed, the laptop has 12 GB installed. However, what baffled me was that task manager listed open RAM slots. So, I opened up the command prompt and issued the following command: wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity. That told me the maximum RAM capacity the laptop can handle. I don’t remember the exact number but it was over 12 GB. So, I decided to open up the laptop to just find out there were no empty memory slots and the pre-installed memory is soldered together. In short, no way to add more RAM. Still, the RAM is decent enough for daily work. It’s 12 GB DDR4 SDRAM at 2400 Mhz. When I opened up the laptop, I could also see that it has a 38 watts battery. Fully charged, the battery lasts me slightly over six hours with a few applications open and viewing a few videos. The processor is an Intel Celeron Processor N5095 that was released in the first quarter of 2021 according to Intel’s website. I can do basic tasks like web browsing, email, office like powerpoint with it. It has four cores and can boost up to 2.9 GHz, which is enough power for most everyday tasks. When it comes to sound, the audio is ok as there are two speakers for stereo. However, I prefer to use my headset as I like to listen to songs at high volume. The built-in microphone captures sound clearly but I often end up using my headset’s mic but in either case, I can’t tell much difference. Recordings from both sound almost identical. The webcam’s resolution is ok but my face appears paler than in real life and movements show up slightly delayed. It’s also not compatible with Windows Hello’s face unlock feature. However, I don’t care as I will primarily use the laptop with Debian and rarely, if ever, use Windows. The laptop also has Bluetooth 4.2. I could pair it to my soundbar that I mainly use for my smart TV. I didn’t encounter any delays. I was able to connect my laptop to my home network using both 5G and 2.4G Wi-Fi. Even though it does not have an Ethernet port built-in, it instantly detected my USB-C hub with Ethernet. This is important to me because I use the laptop as a private Pi-hole DNS server. A Pi-hole is a network-wide ad blocker that blocks ads on all devices on my home network. A wired connection is important for a Pi-hole DNS server because it provides a more reliable and faster connection than Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi connections can be unreliable, especially in a crowded area or if there is interference from other devices. A wired connection is less likely to be interrupted, which means that my Pi-hole DNS server will be able to block ads more consistently. In addition, a wired connection can provide a faster connection, which is important for a Pi-hole DNS server because it needs to be able to quickly respond to DNS requests. If my Pi-hole DNS server is not able to respond quickly, then I may experience delays when loading websites. In addition to being more reliable and faster, a wired connection also uses less power than Wi-Fi. This is important because my laptop is now running a Pi-hole DNS server, which requires more resources than a normal laptop. By using a wired connection, I can save power and extend the battery life of my laptop. I have configured my Debian OS so that my laptop never turns off automatically. If it runs on battery due to a power outage, I have it set to turn off when the battery level reaches 5%. Furthermore, my laptop now boots directly into shell, no GUI at all. This saves even more resources. However, in case I need to use my laptop for work, I can quickly switch back to Debian's graphical interface. The Pi-hole DNS server can keep working while I'm using the laptop as with 12 GB RAM, it's more than enough to prevent it from running out of memory. ... show more

  • A Great PC Laptop for the Money. Very Fast.
Color: Red
I bought the AOCWEI laptop at the beginning of last week and it arrived promptly the next day. I was very pleased at the price being so reasonable but was very interested in seeing if it would live up to the specifications that were listed for it. So far, it has been performing very well. As I already mentioned it is very fast. I know that solid state hard drives are much faster than their mechanical predecessors but this exceeded my expectations. It boots up into Windows 11 in about 14-16 seconds from being totally turned off. Various items load and folders open very quickly. It is a joy to operate from that perspective alone. The screen resolution is very good and more than adequate for my needs. For the average person that needs a solid PC that performs very well and is well built, this is an amazing fit for a modest budget. It is nice and thin, and feels very solid to hold. It is more than adequate with standard USB and USB-C ports as well as an SD card slot to expand your storage. There is also a headphone jack that is compatible with commonly available ear buds and all of these various ports are well-identified on the bottom of the laptop. This is my first experience with Windows 11 and I was pleased that it came already installed on this laptop. It was easy to set up and I am finding it to be interesting but not difficult to use after having been used to Windows 10 for so long. The warranty on this machine is probably the best I have seen for a PC laptop. I hope that I never have to use it but it is nice to know that it has a lifetime warranty available. I had to look twice when I saw that, just to be sure my eyes were not deceiving me. All in all, if you have only a modest budget, I think that you would be hard-pressed to find any other laptop that is this solid, with the memory and storage that this one has, and that performs as well as this one does for the same or less money. ... show more

  • Great Laptop for The Price w/only two real flaws
Color: Blue
This laptop is great. Great value for the cost! The size is good, not too heavy, bright screen and great picture. Good battery life. Fast internet browsing with multiple tabs and has never crashed. Track pad works great! Fast program downloads. I wish the keyboard lit up, but it's only an issue in certain lighting. One issue I have is that the sound is terrible. It hurt my ears because it's so metallic. I don't even use it without headphones. May just be an issue with my individual laptop, but due to school, I can't send it back in to get fixed or replaced. Secondly, the laptop charger is an issue. It takes a universal charger and the wiring gets loose very easily and stops charging. I have dogs who bump into me and I'm already on my 3rd charger in 5-6 months. I'd blame the dogs, but I've had other chargers last years despite the pups. Overall, if the sound issue was resolved I'd absolutely love this laptop and just deal with the charger issue. ... show more
