It works just fine, as far as carbides go. This is a wonderful basic set and I was turning within 15 minutes after the delivery van arrival. It cut just like carbide is supposed to, and is easy to use, as long as the carbide meets the axis centerline.

Well made, slick method of nearly doubling the length of the tool to 31". All aluminum parts are anodized. The edges of the square tool shafts are unnecessarily sharp and some edges have a fine burred edge - easily fixed with fine file or deburring wheel. The cup point set screws, used to secure the square shafts in the handles, dig into the shaft, I blunted and polished the set screw ends. I bought this to get back into woodworking with my lazy tooling works. Great. The only issue I have had is the handle. Comes loose after using for a while. I might look at putting some set screws Or adding some light lock type to the threads. My other reviews are taken down whenever I talk about the product.But this is a good product.I did not have to contact the seller so any reviews about the seller would be that they sent exactly what they described. ... show more

I got back into turning after a few years without a wood lathe. I had sold my old tools and recently bought some new ones. I was not familiar with the carbide tools ants thought I would try them. I’m not going back to the HSS tools. These work well and stay sharp. I never enjoyed the tool sharpening and wasn’t good at it. Now I don’t have to. ... show more

    • Good for roughing only
Works OK for roughing but does not leave a smooth surface. Do not use on soft wood catches easily and tears out and chips easily. Be careful when working toward unsupported end grain. Unit is hard to control because the handles unscrew easily. I had to put a drop of glue on mine to keep the parts from unscrewing and the end cap from falling off. Once you take care of that they aren't too bad for the price and save a lot of sharpening and replacement cutters are relatively inexpensive. ... show more

I used the lathe tools twice and found them to be exceptional in quality, materials, and workmanship. I that for the price they would be cheap knock-offs, but that is not the case they are as good as some of the professional brands. There is only one minor drawback and that is the shape of the shafts on the tools. I would have preferred a round shaft instead of a rectangle shaft. I see the thought for the rectangle shaft, to keep the blade square to the wood, but I would rather have a round shaft and let the turner control the tool. That is a minor problem and it may be written of to personal preference. ... show more

Great starter turning tools for small to medium jobs. Replaceable carbide inserts - aluminum and stainless steel holders. Very high quality for the price. Needed to contact customer service and they were super prompt in dealing with question.
