  • Good quick solution for your Hot Liquor Tank
I use this thermometer on my 10 gal Hot Liquor Tank for my Strike/Sparge water. It's relative accurate, it's relatively cheap, and it works. Make sure your kettle is tall enough to take this baby before you buy. Actually, this thing is awesome when you consider that the alternative is drilling yet another dang hole through ANOTHER S/S kettle for a side-mounted thermometer. With this guy here, I don't need to modify the stock pot, I just use this clip-on thermometer and a 1-qt Pyrex measuring cup (measuring quart?) for my dough-in proteolytic/saccarification rests. Someone else said it fogged up at 212 F. I didn't have this problem, but I don't see how it matters, seeing as though the laws of physics dictate that the temperature of liquid H2O can never exceed the boiling point (and that only boiling water is generally ever added for subsequent step infusions anyhow). ... show more

  • Temperature not calibrated.
When it arrived, it did not read the temperature accurately. I had to calibrate it manually. It seems like it may operate as intended now.

  • Perfect for our needs
We purchased this to use for homebrewing when our previous thermometer was reading widely inaccurate. This one is accurate, the stem is long enough to use for smaller (2 gal) boils in a 20 quart pot, and long enough to use in a swamp cooler during fermentation. The numbers are clear and easy to read. The clip is strong and makes it super easy to attach on the side of the cooler or the pot, and also works well if you need to place the stem on an angle. ... show more

  • Helps keep track of brewing temps.
It's a good product. Helps me keep track of my brewing temps and I haven't had any issues other than the clip. The way it's designed once clipped to the pot and let go the probe tends to touch the side of the kettle. It takes a careful balancing act to get the probe to extend out into the mixture. The clip works well for raising the thermometer up and down and doesn't seem to be wearing out as I change positions regularly. However, no matter what height I chose, it's always the careful balancing to get the probe to the stand away from the sides. Any bump, or knock and I'm repositioning everything. All in all, still happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Great thermometer!
Worked flawlessly and was spot-on the first several times I used it. But I dropped it on the floor once by accident, and then it at boiling it read close to 218F instead of 212F while my digital unit from the same manufacturer reads 212F. I'm wondering if I can re-calibrate it with the nut that sits behind the dial.... :-\ UPDATE: As it turns out, the nut does allow calibration. So now it works perfectly again. To reflect my happiness, I've added one star to give it a 5-star rating. ... show more

  • Great for brewing
I use a 7 gallon tamales pot for my brewing and this thermometer fits just right, you can change the angle that the tip is in the middle of the mash and it actually stays there. Readings match up with a digital test thermometer and the dial is easy to read, so I am very happy with this purchase. There is a steel clip that holds it in place and so I notched a slot in the pot lid to fit around it - perfect. ... show more

  • Perfect length for 5 and 15 gallon brew kettles
If you're boiling say 3 gallons of wort in a 5 gallon kettle this thermometer fits very well. The clip on the side makes it easy to just leave in my kettle. I used it in a 15 gallon pot where I had 6.25 gallons of wort boiling and it reached enough. After I boiled off just over a gallon, the thermometer didn't quite reach, but it wasn't mission critical. Fast reading, as fast as you expect a dial thermometer and easy to read. ... show more

  • Worked great, seems accurate.
Bought for homebrewing and works great. As I was heating up water for the mash and later cooling the wort I used my digital infrared thermometer and directed the laser at the tip of the 1 X Brewcraft 12" Ss' Dial Thermometer which appeared to read the same temperature that the digital one was indicating. I'm satisfied with this product and would recommend it. ... show more
