  • Definitely worth buying.
I bought this bazooka tube because I was too cheap to buy a false bottom for 4x the money and I don't regret it at all. I'd been using the local homebrew shop owner's mash tun and wanted to build my own so I wouldn't have to keep using his. After hearing that it cost him about $120 to build his, I started looking for ways to save money. I built this mash tun for $58, you can't beat that. The LHBS owner and I brewed the same beer side by side, me using my mash tun with the bazooka tube while he used his with a false bottom, and we got about the same efficiency. I've brewed 3 times with this mash tun now and the bazooka tube works great. One thing I might do is put a hop sock over it to filter out smaller grain particles that get through the screen, but it's not necessary. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Exactly as advertised
Exactly as advertised. Will work great in my pot to keep solids out. Great price also.

  • Well made, but didn't work quite as well as I'd hoped.
On the merits this is a good product. It's sturdy and with proper care will last for years. I wanted to use this to filter my post-boil wort. It, well, doesn't do THAT great of a job in this application. There's a fine line with the mesh...if it is too fine then your flow rate stinks, but if it is too loose you might as well not have it. The mesh here is a decent size and did catch the hobs/trub/whatever that was in the wort. But it did it a little too well, because I got good flow for about thirty seconds before it stopped. I needed to sanitize a long handled spoon and scrape the bazooka clean to keep the flow rate up. It's a good idea and I figured I'd give this a try over my old method of whirlpooling. It didn't work quite as well as I had hoped, but it still worked well enough. Probably best to keep this for all grain batches (in lieu of a false bottom) instead of relying on it to filter post-boil wort. ... show more

  • Great for Mash Tun
Previously I used a 10 gallon Igloo cooler with a false bottom for my mash tun. It worked great, but I wanted to be able to do step mashes so I converted my 15 gallon brew kettle to a combination brew kettle/mash tun. I purchased two of the bazooka screens and some addition fittings to make a U shaped filter. My first batch contained twenty pounds of grain and 10 gallons of water in the mash and the Bazooka screens worked great under all of that weight. As this batch was a wheat beer I had a great deal of extra break material from the wheat malt and I recommend an additional filter of some sort during the transfer of wort to your brew kettle, but even with the tendency for stuck sparges with wheat I didn't encounter any issues with the Bazooka screens. I then used the same set up to boil the wort and the Bazooka screens were again superb at filtering the whole hops I used during the boil. This is a great product at a very good price. ... show more

Works well for it's purpose. However I had to take this out because I found it worked *too* well. It really filters out all that stuff from the wort. But it's kind of a pain in my setup to have to constantly clean it with a sanitized spoon when it gets stuck a dozen times because it does such a good job. If this works for your brew setup it's really above par. (if doing brew in a bag, be very careful with your bag that you put into your kettle, it can get stuck on this and it's not easy to fix with 20 lbs of grains in there...) ... show more

  • Good screen. Fits perfectly. Easy to clean but still lets some trub through.
I use this for my BIAB setup and the screen fits nicely in my 10gal pot. The holes are still wide enough to let some trub and the hot break through so you'll still want to whirlpool your wort so all that stuff goes into the center of your brew pot when you transfer. Easy to clean and fits perfectly in my 10gal pot with a weldless ballvalve installed. I use a CFC and let gravity do the work so some of the trub still gets past the screen which is not a big deal because I had that problem before I got the Bazooka screen. At least some of it now gets stuck in the screen and doesn't get transferred into my fermenter. ... show more

  • Good Strainer
We bought this screen for our boil kettle to try and help filter out some of the bigger pellet hop particles and for when we put loose, whole-leaf hops in as well. I was expecting the mesh to be a bit finer than what this screen came with, but it is very rugged and the mesh is stiff, which is nice, because I can tell it will take a huge amount of hop particles/leaves to crush this screen. Like I said, if your expecting this to have a fine mesh for filtering large pellet hops particles, this screen might not work (I would say that the screen square-hole size is about 1/16" square). But if your like us, and like mix in some whole leaf hops from time to time, then this screen will work great. ... show more

  • Where has this been all my brewing career
I bought this to help me separate the grains from wort during brewing and it works AWESOME! I used to struggle with steeping bags and those not straining effectively, but this thing has cut my draining time by half. I had to clear the screen a few times during the drain, but that was after about 75% had already drained out. Get one, you won't regret it. ... show more
