  • Perfect upgrade to my old Mustang, just wish my car had OBD2
Color: Standard 3G+32G (Gen2)
I reviewed many Android head units and I selected the Atoto S8 and so glad I did. I installed it into a 1994 Mustang GT replacing the Mach 460 single din stereo receiver with cassette unit and the single din CD player below it. Installation was so easy given there are wiring adapters and replacement double-din console bezels. I won't say that the final install is as solid as I would like as I had to modify the components a tad to my liking butr there were absolutely no issues with the Atoto S8 or its components. I will note though, as I was yest powering up the unit, prior to mounting it, I felt the unit was too hot so I added cooling fins to help dissipate heat, unsure if it was actually a problem, however. I will also say I added a voltage divider (2 resiaters) to have the Amp On signal to the irigin Ford Mach460 Amps to alleviate the popping sound that occurs when the unit powers up before the Amps shut off. Not even replacing the original Amps and speakers, the sound was INCREDIBLE! Especially after adjusting the provided equalizer and time sequencing to target the speakers to my preference. Didn't need to boost the Bass, but the option is there. I also added the Atoto wide angle backup camera. Picture looks amazing, calibration took a few tries but I love the way it builds a 360 view. I will mention that you must consider how deep the camera is when mounted as in my case the license tag is in a depression on the trunk lid and this camera sees the sides of that egress. Point is, the further away from the body of the car, the more useful the image will be. But it works well in my application as I have cropped out that area. I normally hotspot my Android phone to it and it is great to be able to watch YouTube and Netflix while parked and waiting, obviously not foe driver while driving but passenger could enjoy it. I use Waze and Spotify mostly but have looked at downloading other apps from Google Play Store. Android Asdisyant and other voice commands are availabke but I haven't yrt used much of it. It has Torque app pre-installed but my car is OBD1 so not useful for me but Atoto can also provide an ODB2 adapter, wireless steering wheel control, front camera with a DVR app... so many features. I got mine for cruising so great sound and nav. Oh yea, there is a Radio (AM/FM/HD) app pre-installed which is far superior to the OEM unit this replaced, I also have a low profile 256GB USB with all my ripped CD's and photos plugged in on the front port and I can access that media as well. Also on this unit is a logo library, I think all makes are available, I chose the Ford oval as power-up and background. Lastly, this unit allow to customize the RGBr to obtain a color to match with the dash or customize as you see fit - mine is set to a dingey green to match the LED clock in my dash just above this unit. So it had been few months since driving it due to travel so I am sure I have more to offer but I would recommend this unit without hesitation. Happy to answer questions about this unit or installation based on my limited experience. ... show more

  • Works very well for me.
Color: Premium 3G+32G (10in/IAH10D)
This review is for the ATOTO S8 Premium 10 inch Double-DIN, 3G+32G, S8G2114PM model. I have had this head unit installed in my 2012 Ford F250 and I think I finally have a good idea on the pros and cons of it. While I gave it a 5 star review, I would really have gone with a 4.5 if I could. Also, my phone is a Samsung S20 Ultra. I can't speak to any Apple or iPhone related issues. The first thing I will note is that this is an Android OS headunit. Android devices are not necessarily easy plug and play like a proprietary hardware headunit might be. Android devices like this are not necessarily best for technologically faint of heart who are not comfortable digging into the file or operating system setup. But, it is also a hell of a lot cheaper than the going rate for the big name brands. I'll start with the cons as they are few and relatively minor, generally related to fitment. The biggest con is that the screen sits fairly far away from the dash and is not adjustable. I knew this when I bought it, so I can really complain. However, since my truck has a spacious dash, no climate controls or air vents are blocked. I just wish I could horizontally tilt it a little toward the driver position. The biggest issue I had initially was connectivity with wired Android Auto. I found that the connection to my phone is very sensitive to the USB C connector on my phone. After switching to a tighter cable, Wired Android Auto has been about 95% reliable, occasionally disconnecting when I go over a bump in the road. My F250 rides rough. I have also used wireless Android Auto via Headunit Reloaded. This works well most of the time, but I get a few more disconnections and audio hiccups. Otherwise, I have had little trouble. Installation was relatively straight forward in my truck. Fortunately I have a lot of room to work with. The biggest learning curve for me was soldering the wiring harness to connect the Atoto wiring harness to the truck wiring. I did not want to mess with the steering wheel controls, mainly because the wiring harness that would support the steering wheel controls was much more expensive and complicated. I got the Atoto steering wheel control unit. It was plug and play and works great. All features are available within reach of my thumb on the steering wheel. The screen is bright and clear, except in very bright conditions when it can be a little hard to see detail. It is also very responsive to touch and swiping. The system is very responsive and I have had no issues with slowdowns. I have had to reboot a few times when an app hung, but that can happen on my Samsung S20 Ultra. When I have had to reboot, the process is relatively quick. When starting the car, the Atoto powers on very quickly. Apps open quickly and navigating screens is smooth. I was initially concerned that it only had 3gb of RAM, but memory management does not appear to be an issue. The unit supports most apps from the Google play store or sideloading apps from other sources. I primarily use the Atoto for music, navigation and an occasional phone call. It will support video playback, but it seems a bit dangerous to me to be watching videos while driving. I do like Radarscope for weather radar. For music, my preferred app is Neutron for music stored on a micro SD card and VLC for Android Auto. For some reason Neutron doesn't play well with Android Auto. I've been using Agama Car Launcher. It looks nice and works well for me with smooth interface. Both of these music apps play any format I throw at them, from mp3 to high res 24/192 flac. Sound quality is decent, but limited by the budget speakers that I installed to replace the crappy OEM speakers. I imagine it would sound even better with higher quality speakers. My truck is left outside and I have had no issues with performance in very cold weather. I have not used the onboard GPS for navigation since I don't have an off-line navigation app yet, but the system shows connection to many satellites. I have the USB cables running into an outlet that replaced a 12 volt input that didn't work. One side is for Android Auto wired and the other is a standard USB connection. USB charging with the Atoto is slow, but works fine. I ran an aux cable to the location of the old stock aux input, but I haven't had need to use it. Overall, I am happy with the ATOTO S8 Premium 10 inch 3G+32G, S8G2114PM . Also, Atoto customer support it excellent and was very responsive to my questions. ... show more
