  • Fun to Ride
Style: R5 Folding 1000w 48v 20ah Green
I don't have much experience with ebike or bikes in general. But let me say this, I am 100% satisfied with my purchase. I have run into issues mostly with shipping with FedEx, but it is not in seller's control. Seller acutally was kind and understanding enough to refund half of my shipping money. The bike comes well padded, so it's unlikely to get broken pieces. I have so far done about 40 miles on this bike and it works amazing. I am currently running into issue of very mild mechanical noise, but it seems to be improving, the more I ride. Again, the seller has good attitude and offered me all the support I would expect with this issue. They have offered me to cover in case any repair is required. The battery lasts for a long time regardless of the weight of the bike and size of motor. The charger works fast enough. I would say it takes 4-6 for a full charge. The bike has good enough power and speed as well. It is fun to ride slow or fast. The suspension is very comfortable. Seat Quality is good, but little extra padding is worth getting for additional comfort if needed. Headlight and tail light at night is impressive and seems to cause no issue ride your bike at night. Overall, there are $6000 ebikes available to buy, but this bike is good enough for the price point if you are just looking to get a Quality ebike for the price range. ... show more

  • Exciting!
Planning an escape from the world of "Amish" bikes?!? (HaHa) This is a great ebike, especially at this price. I love high end mountain bikes and own a Specialized Stump Jumper 29er and a Niner Rip 9 for when I'm not feeling the electric vibe, but they may be collecting dust for a while. At 48 years old those hills just keep getting steeper and steeper (not sure why), and my kids just get faster and faster (twerps), so I thought I'd try out Damson's Burchda RX80 ebike and put those speedsters back in their place! (just kidding, they know I'm just old and slow). I've never had as much fun riding as I do on this bike - eBikes are great! I'm not one of those ebike reviewers who get bikes for free, bought this machine with my hard earned $$$. After a week of daily ~20 mile expeditions across roads, paved paths, and miles of dirt/rock trails, here's the outcome! Greatness (looooong list!): -Value: Having compared a lot of ebikes, I have yet to find a better value than this. Full suspension, upgraded front fork, big battery, exciting 750w motor (peak 1000w), and all the extras included. -Build: This bike is a beast. It is solid. I am 6'3", 240 lbs, and the bike handles my ample girth with ease. It is rated up to a whopping 400 lbs, and I believe it. -Power: The power train is strong. Even at my size the bike had no difficulty accelerating up a paved steep grade with power to spare. The 17.5ah (amp hour) battery will be more than I'll ever need; seriously, a 2 hour trail ride only uses up 20-30% of the battery! I love how the battery is integrated smoothly into the frame tube, which looks far better than those externally mounted batteries (uuuuu-g-l-y IMO). This is one of the more common batteries used in overseas ebike manufacturing and is easily purchased today from Damson for $400 if you want a 2nd battery for an insanely long ride that will make it difficult to walk for the next 24 hours. -Front Fork: The 140mm dual crown fork is really nice. It has an adjustable oil lockout on one side that is easy to turn while riding, and on the other side you can adjust the spring strength (see photo). Most bikes in this class come with a junk 80mm front fork, and this is a great upgrade for a heavyweight bike like this. -Electric: Classy color screen, easy to read in daylight. Unlike many other ebikes, this one comes set for MPH, not KPH. The USB charging port for your phone is part of the screen, super convenient, just hold the M button for a second to turn it on each ride. The screen is controlled by the waterproof left hand 4-button controller, and I found it easy to operate while riding. Switching between pedal assist levels was even easier than changing gears. The half turn grip throttle works well when you decide not to pedal, note that for safety it won't engage at a stand still, it waits for a small bit of motion. The controller screen feels well made. You can view speed, battery status, max speed, avg speed, odometer, trip odometer, trip time, and total time. The cables are elegantly routed through the frame, so much of the wiring is hidden from view. With dedicated headlight & horn buttons, a quick honk can scare the heck out of other riders while you zip past them going up a hill (so long suckers!). I am seriously impressed with the electric on this bike. -Breaks: Hydraulic. Sweet. Nearly all bikes in this price class have mechanical. These felt as nice as my Avid Juicy 7s on my high end bikes. Easy to adjust the throw screws that are part of the hand levers, to make them grip evenly. Not much more to say, they stop a heavy bike very well without laborious adjusting and hand fatigue! -Headlight: I wasn't expecting much here. Most ebikes have tiny garbage headlights that serve about as much purpose as a reflector. This headlight is rather impressive and actually gives the bike a bit of a motorcycle vibe. It makes riding at night feel comfortable and illuminates what's in front of you quite well (see photos). -Seat: The seat is a good fit for this bike. With a width of 8", and a descent amount of squishiness, the seat combines function and comfort well. No bike shorts needed! Unless maybe you buy that 2nd battery for a stupid-long trip. The seat has a rear light built in, operated by its own separate battery. A nice extra touch. -Tires: Wow, they're huge. If you've not been on a fat tire bike before, it will take a minute to get used to how grippy they are when turning. Having the extra traction on trails is nice and they perform exceptionally well in mud. They also give extra shock absorption at 15psi - big pillowy goodness! Though they are labelled as a 26" tire, the measured diameter is actually 29" (see photo), bonus for trails! This larger diameter is standard for 26"x4" tires, but I won't bore you here with an explanation as to why. All in all, a great fit for this kind of bike. -Handlebars: Nice and wide, so you feel fully in control. The handle bar grips feel high end as well. -Shifter: The dual click shifter feels high end and is much nicer than some of the alternatives on competitor bikes (have you seen that ridiculous single-lever 7-speed shifter? Yuck!) -Cruise Control: If you don't like the idea of holding the throttle for a long period of time, you can press and hold the "-" button for a second and cruise control will engage. Nice feature for long straightaways! -Walking Assist: Engage walking assist mode by pressing and holding the "-" button. This feature can be helpful when you have to push this heavy bike up a steep hill. It seems PAS has to be set to "0" for this to work. -Advanced Settings: If you like getting into computer settings like I do, there are many items on this bike that you can adjust, some of which make a HUGE difference. I recommend the following changes: --A2: Change the PAS Levels from 5 to 9. I ride trails a lot and having a wider range of PAS levels for slower speeds was a great adjustment (the change reduced level 1 from 8mph to 5mph). --A5: Change wheel diameter from 28 to 29 since the wheels are actually 29" in diameter. More accurate speedometer and odometer. --A12: Change "Booster Start Strength" from 3 to 5. This is one of those lost-in-translation items. A better name would be Motor Responsiveness. On 3, you have to pedal for a full second before the motor will engage, which feels sluggish. On 5, it's more like 1/4 second to engage, WAY better. Put it on 0 and it's a solid 3 seconds to engage - not sure why anyone would want that! Saw a video review of this bike (in French) that complained about the sluggish motor response, but the guy didn't bother to explore settings before making his review. This would have definitely changed his mind! --Note that you have to get past P5 with the password (default="1801") to get into the A1-13 settings. --There are about 20 adjustable settings in the computer and they aren't too hard to navigate with help from the online manual - Google "electric bike s2 manual pdf" -Extras: The headlight, bike rack, aluminum fenders, sturdy kick stand, double mirrors, cell phone mount, bike lock, tire pump, and assembly tools with storage pouch complete this package. The bike rack is super industrial, the pump might be a throw away, and the double mirrors are a nice extra for road riding (see photo). The cell phone mount grips my larger phone very securely on rocky trails, even rotated 90 degrees to landscape. -Assembly: Took me about 30 minutes, very simple. I suspect most would complete it in 20-40 minutes. Observations: -Trail Riding: Great on dirt & rocks (see photos). The rear hub motor paired with the large front chain ring is an ideal setup for pavement, no "ghost pedaling." Since I mostly do low-speed trail riding, I decided to install a different crank with a smaller 32 tooth chain ring ($30 on Amazon) and the change improved trail performance significantly. If you prefer pavement, no change is needed. -Rear Shock: Simple, but I'm happy it's there, especially on trails (see photo). The internal spring is very sturdy. -Rear Derailleur: Shimano Tourney, an entry level derailleur (see photo). With a rear-hub motor, the derailleur gets far less use than on an Amish mountain bike (sorry, can't help it), so it is sufficient. If it gives up someday, I'll replace it with a better derailleur. 8 gears on the rear cassette gives a good range. Operates well after a quick tune up! -Pedal Senor: This bike has a "cadence" pedal sensor. The other option is "torque" pedal sensor. If you don't know the difference, it's worth watching a video to understand. Torque sensors seem to appear on high-end bikes, but the differences are subtle. I am happy with the cadence sensor. -Pedals: Thankfully they are about the easiest and least expensive item on a bike to upgrade. The stock pedals are fine, but I had a problem with one clicking. See below for the sellers excellent resolution to this problem. Other Thoughts: -Neck: I can't ride a mtn bike with a standard neck because of back problems (suggest not getting old). My photos have an aftermarket neck installed, which raises the handle bars and puts my back at an angel it can tolerate. Hopefully this is unnecessary for you. $20 and was an easy replacement. -Slime: If you like riding off road, slime is great. The inner tubes don't come with slime, but you can easily add it thanks to the standard Schrader valves. I use it with my other bikes, and had no difficulty adding it to this bike during assembly. -Weight: This is a heavy bike, about 70lbs. You really feel the extra weight pedaling with the motor off, but WOW it flies with the motor on! Negatives: -None! If you found this review informative, please click the big "Helpful" button! For the 99% of people who want a well-built, price-competitive, thoroughly enjoyable ebike, but don't want to spend many-many thousands more for those top end components, I highly recommend the Burchda RX80, and the seller Damson Bicycle! See you on the trail, "Breaking Amish"! ... show more

  • Great bike; minor concerns
Style: R5 Folding 1000w 48v 20ah Green
I’m 18 miles into this bike and I love it so far. Out of the box, it was impressively sturdy. 30-45 minutes of uncomplicated assembly and it was ready to go. I’m using it for small neighborhood rides, but mainly as a commute to work (12mi one-way). Overall I’m very impressed; will update review later this year. DON’T KNOWs: battery life (seems good so far) PROs: durable, easy to fold, bright lights, comfortable seat, hydraulic brakes work great, easy to assemble, fast (28mph+ on straightaway) CONs: hefty (I knew this before purchase, but it’s notable to mention), had to ‘shape’ the fender to not rub against tire, cargo rack was not in stock at time of purchase (however, seller did contact me for notification of this), battery charger connection is different than most bikes (and extra chargers not sold separately; I wanted one to have at work and home). ... show more

  • You get a lot for the price
Style: R5 Folding 1000w 48v 20ah Green
It took me a moment to get used to this large, sturdy bike, but after 150 miles I am loving it. I initially had a problem with one defective part concerning the headlight mounting but they rectified the problem quickly. The suspension is exactly what I need with a mono shock in the back alongside adjustable front forks. It’s probably one of the best value-per-buck e-bikes out there. Be advised… it is a huge bike. But that is exactly what I wanted. You can go all day on almost any terrain. It has a very bright front and rear light. It folds in half for storage in a relatively small space considering how large the bike is. The big tires also absorb bumps. It’s a great ride. ... show more
