  • Great Trainer with a Few Assembly Quirks
Color: JT-A
I bought this automatic ping pong robot for my kids, who are 11 and 15 years old, and they were able to assemble it themselves without any issues. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, so even for someone that young, it wasn’t a problem getting everything set up. We did encounter one small hiccup during assembly: a copper knob that was supposed to go on the head of the machine fell out. While the instructions mentioned where it should go, there was a bit of confusion because a nut was attached to the side of the robot's head. The head was rotated downward during assembly, which made the nut sit higher and not align properly. Once we figured out that the head needed to be straightened, the knob screwed in perfectly. As for using the robot, it's a great training tool, but the controls can be a bit challenging, especially for beginners. The adjustments, particularly for the ball frequency, only go up by +1 increments, and the minimum frequency is about 1 ball per second. This can be a bit too fast for those still learning and trying to develop their skills at a slower pace. My recommendation? If you’re a beginner, be ready for a bit of a learning curve with the controls. But once you get used to it, this robot will become an invaluable training partner. Despite these minor quirks, it has been a fantastic addition to our training routine. ... show more

  • Unit did not work, many frustrating yet fixable deficiencies
Color: Q8-PRO Advanced Edition
After reading all of the reviews and understanding the common problems, I took the plunge and spent $478 on the robot. Unboxing the unit has acceptable quality and sets up very easily. Attaches to the table easily and firmly. Directions are difficult to understand and not clear. It took me a while to figure out the remote control has to be bound to the machine by pressing a "bind" button near the plug in. Remote is not easy to figure out. I had to scour YouTube videos to learn more. Little design items created frustrating flaws and the head did not automatically articulate up and down with the remote. I was able to move the gears internally to get the head level and use the unit in limited settings to see how it performed overall. The net on each side hangs too high off the table and balls rolling side to side will roll off the table unless the net is pulled down and pinned down. The attachment points for the net around the ball tray are terrible and end up coming lose after a couple of times folding up and installing the robot. Easy fix with zip ties all around, but it's an easy improvement the manufacturer could make. The ball feeder gets "stuck" all the time. I estimate every 25 shots on average. Putting less balls in the tray seems to help but not eliminate the problem. The ball tray cannot be adjusted on either side and the ends stick up about an inch above the table so balls rolling to the corners of the table will not fall into the return tray. Ultimately I would have probably tried to fix all the deficiencies if the head worked properly, but I could never get it to work and returned the machine. The remote was connected properly and the machine would beep, but the head would never move up or down. The power of the shooting wheels is great and the machine seems able to adjust to a wide variety of shots. After doing copious research and understanding the shortcomings, I'm still disappointed the unit didn't function properly. I feel the manufacturer could produce a reliable, reasonably made machine with attention to detail and quality control. ... show more

  • Good value for money
Color: JT-A
I received this unit two days back and played an hour so here are my initial impressions. I'll add more later. I used to be a competitive TT player and had a USATT rating of about 1850. I used to own the Newgy 1040 TT robot for a few years. Then it developed jamming problems and couldn't be used anymore. This unit is almost an exact replacement for the Newgy 1040. Shipping was fast. The unit is carefully packaged against damage and all the components are wrapped in individual plastic bags. The instruction manual that came with it has the wrong instructions on how to assemble the net. Also the manual isn't written by a native English speaker but on the whole the manual does make sense. The incorrect part is that the two curved iron supports don't go to the two corners of the net but to the center of the net and arch out from there. I'll add a picture of the setup. Other than that the setup is quick and easy and isn't challenging at all. It's a very useful ball machine on the whole to practice, improve one's basic strokes such as drive against top/back/sidespin, practicing topspin shots and also backspin shots. Even at the lowest ball frequency setting it seems to spit out balls at about a rate of 20 balls/min. That's a pretty fast clip since playing at that speed will tire me out in about 10 min. Depends on your fitness. One complaint I have is that at low speed settings, the machine doesn't work all that well. For low speed play, I have to incline the head a lot so the ball can cross the net. That makes the ball very high and very loopy. I think this is a consequence of he head positioning. If the height of the head was adjustable maybe it'll help. I'll add more about this later. It can be an excellent aerobic exercise as well. If you put it on full oscillation and play only with forehand or backhand and cover the whole table you'll be sweating in a few minutes. It also requires absolute technique. So, one warning about that: you need to know how to play. Look up some instructions videos on you tube. Get your technique right. Start slow and easy and develop your game. It'll be great if you have someone to show you how to play and correct your technique. All racquet sports are technical and you can't just start playing. You will develop very bad habits. If you go that way, this machine will frustrate you. I hope this machine has good quality and will perform well for years to come. It can be a very fun and rewarding experience becoming a better player. ... show more
