The 1.5-inch Bunkie Board , Split Bunkie Board provides a surface foundation for any platform beds, bunks and daybeds. It adds support to the mattress and will keep mattress stay in good shape thus extending the life of your mattress. It will give a firm bottom support for the mattress and raises the mattress up for about 1.5 inches. When a mattress is placed directly on slats or metal spring, the mattress will have the tendency to rip or sink. These can be avoided with the use of a Bunkie board. Using a Bunkie board doubles the mattress' life expectancy. This Bunkie board is a good alternative in lieu of a box spring that may be too high for day beds. It will give the bed a lift without adding much height. This Bunkie board is strong enough to be used directly on bed frame in lieu of a box spring. This bunkie board came in one piece, not two. It fit perfectly under a regular twin mattress (not XL). I had asked the question how many slats are in this board and got the answer of 9. No. There are 7 slats. This is not a solid board like plywood and it's not meant to be. Bought this to replace a 15 year old existing bunkie board and got exactly what we had. It does give extra support but not so much you're going to notice it that much. What it will do is extend the life of your mattress double or even triple the time than without one. After reading many reviews, I hope this one will help others! ... show more

I just received the twin size. First off, it was not two pieces, it was one piece that measured 38” X 72”. Contrary to what the manufacturer claimed in the question and answer section there were only 6 slats in twin that I bought. Each slat only measured 1 1/2” wide! Yes, you read that correctly - 1 1/2”! One down the middle of the frame, and 5 that went from side to side. They were obviously not “3 inches” apart as claimed. The narrowest distance between two slats was 9 1/4”. Some were even 10” apart. This board provides zero support. Needless to say I am returning this! ... show more
