I simply could not buy new, I lacked the extra $40 or so. This is 100% like new. I received the black one, which is fine (in fact I've seen them cost more). It's awesome. I thought about the Tascam DR40x but I'm very happy. The Tascam can move thje mics physically further apart into AB mode, but if I want that, I'll just hook up external mics, because neither device is wide enough to do the best, wide binaural spacing. This sounds quite spherical in 90 degree mode. 120 mode might be okay in some instances but... these devices are skinny so they have to angle the mics for separation and that mutes things in the middle at 120 degrees (but it will enhance stereo separation and sometimes, maybe that's where the sounds are coming from, out to L and R and less in front. I also heard the preamp hiss is slightly less on the Zoom than the Tascam. I wanted one of these all my life. Immersive stereo in the field. High quality recording. ... show more

    • WORTH ITS WEIGHT... AND THEN SOME.
I originally bought the Zoom H2n, but wasn't impressed (see review). However, I didn't give up on Zoom and bought the Zoom Bass Amplifier Stack (H4nPro) in the hope that it would out perform the Zoom H2n. I was not disappointed. I am a drone photographer and need a good quality recorder to catch audio at outdoor venues. I had a chance to take it to a local outdoor concert yesterday and was very impressed with the sound quality it produced using 48Khz/16bit settings. I will give a little caveat. There was very slight breeze at the concert last night, so I didn't put the windscreen on it. However, I noticed during playback that I could hear the wind on occasion. Well, it sounded like wind on playback, but it could only have been a slight breeze. So be aware that the Zoom Bass Amplifier Stack (H4nPro) picks up everything. Be sure to buy and use a windscreen anytime you're outdoors with it. The windscreen I bought fits perfectly on it. Just search for Windscreen Muff for Zoom H2n/H4n. It's about $10 bucks. The Zoom Bass Amplifier Stack (H4nPro) feels very sturdy when holding it. Even though I have a hard case with foam in it for the Zoom Bass Amplifier Stack (H4nPro) and other equipment, it also came with a protective case too. I feel better knowing that it's in its own case too as added protection. I am very new to audio recorders, but the Zoom Bass Amplifier Stack (H4nPro) is very easy to setup and operate. I did a lot of research before the purchase of any audio recorder, and then watched some videos on how to operate the Zoom Bass Amplifier Stack (H4nPro) and the best settings to use for different situations. So when I received it, it was very easy to walk thru the setup and operation. Even though this Zoom Bass Amplifier Stack (H4nPro) is refurbished, it appears new in every way. I'm very happy with it at the moment and hope that I get years of reliable service out of it before I consider upgrading.     • "Renewed" does not mean "fixed"
I buy refurbished photography gear all the time with great success so when I had to replace my Zoom H4n Handy recorder I chose the "renewed" option thinking it would be the same - individually tested and certified better-than-new. Within a week the on/off switch stopped working. I had to return it. I do not recommend the "renewed" Zoom H4n. Buyer beware! The Zoom H4n Pro was indeed better than the H4n. THAT I can recommend. Just be sure to buy it new! ... show more

I reviewed the newer models online and they seem to have similar features compared to the H4N Pro. This device works just as well without costing as much.

    • Lucked out This thing works great and was a great gamble.
This is just like new and works great. A few tiny scratches on the screen barely noticeable. But this happens after a few uses so its worth saving the money. Great purchase very pleased.
