  • It works great. This recorder is amazing and fairly easy to use.
This recorder is amazing. I was able to record 8 tracks fairly quickly the day I received it. There are lots of YouTube videos showing how to use it. I'm still working of figuring out the effects for vocals and guitars, but it is fairly simple to use. One of the best things about it is that it is a standalone recorder. It does everything from recording tracks to the mix down without the need for a computer. All I had to do after the mixdown was put the SD card in my computer and transfer the mixdown wave file to my computer. I highly recommend this recorder for anyone who likes recording their own music. The sound quality is also amazing. Sounds like a studio recording. I love it!!!!! Great price too for everything this recorder can do. ... show more

  • Perfect for the home-recording artist - produces 24bit professional results - I use for my band!
I am a professional musician and use this for my band, Sonic Chaos. I upgraded from the 8 track version and this is just as easy to use, but you get more tracks and nice features like usable on-board effects ( the noise suppressor works awesome when micing a high gain marshall to reduce hiss on mute parts!) - it has stereo inputs so if you use a roland or similar drum setup, you can input to a dual stereo track and adjust everything as one track. The mastering features are great and the recordings come out with plenty of headroom - noticable upgrade from the 16bit versions for sure! I searched high and low, and after many reviews and my own experiences, truly believe you cannot get a better home recording studio setup for less then 5 times its price. Its just that cool. Hear it in action on the latest Sonic Chaos tunes that s/b here on Amazon - "Radio Chaos" was recorded 100% on this. ... show more

  • making this a perfect component for regular recording and later uploading to a ...
The technology has finally caught up! Previous versions of the portastudio used CDs or tapes. Now, you can depend entirely on SD cards/USB, making this a perfect component for regular recording and later uploading to a more advanced editing setup. Recording can be done in seconds, with no setup or preparation, taking away all of the headaches of moving your regular computer into your studio, setting up drivers, etc. I keep this as part of my electronic drum setup, with it serving as a daily rehearsal/practice recorder. I'm also involved in a satellite recording project, and this works very well for that, with .wav files easily uploaded and then saved back to a laptop or desktop. I would classify this as a high-end demo recorder. If you're looking for a more serious studio setup, you'll want to explore multiple components at a higher price point (probably closer to $1000-2000). But for the non-professional that is tired of using computers, this should address all of your needs at a very reasonable price point. Unlike older CD or four-track recorders with lots of moving parts, this unit should stay in good repair if well looked after and I expect it will hold its re-sale value well. ... show more

  • Sick!
Fast, reliable, and easy to use. I just wish the fader knobs had LED’s. The screen is crisp! It does what’s it meant to do! I love it.

  • Great machine
This is my second Tasca recorder. I had an earlier model that served me well for years. This new model is much more sophisticated and the learning curve is longer, especially for a guy who is technologically challenged. But, YouTube videos are a great help.

  • Dynamic/Compressor Functions Only available for Live Recording
Depending on your application, the Tascam DP24SD could be your dream machine. For the money it offers a lot of capability. It has a professional feel and is built well. The firmware, for the most part, feels well designed. There are some menu sequences that are far from intuitive---nothing that a little repetition won't cure. The manual covers most operations well. It's weak in terms of clarifying various internal patching options/capabilities. Phil Tipping provides some excellent youtube videos that clarify what you can and cannot do in terms of patching with the DP24. I really needed the ability to apply dynamic/compressor effects to an existing .wav/track file---can't do this with the DP24SD. An excellent 3-band compressor is available for mastering, but not available for individual use on an existing .wav track file. You can apply dynamic/compressor effects realtime while live recording via the XLR inputs, but that's it. You do have the option of applying the "guitar" compressor to an existing .wav/track file; unfortunately, the guitar compressor has very limited control capability---making it almost worthless. One does have the option of using some of the sends to use outboard dynamic/compressor units, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of using the DP24 to begin with. Not having the ability to use onboard dynamic/compressor effects on an existing .wav/track file was a deal breaker for me. I reluctantly returned my DP24SD. It would have been my dream machine if this capability had existed. ... show more
