Why is there sometimes variability in my ZIWI Peak food? ZIWI Peak uses natural ingredients, handcrafted in small batches, featuring high inclusions of meat and organs and excludes artificial fillers, dyes and preservatives. This, in combination other natural factors such as age and seasonality of the ingredients we use, often results in variability of shape, size, color, texture and odor. This variation is perfectly normal and is an indicator as to how natural the food really is! How do I transition my cat to Ziwi? ZIWI Peak is nutrient dense. Love that this is just venison jerkey. I have an ibs chicken allergy cat and finding novel protein that has no chicken or anything else is hard. They had a hard time figuring out how to eat it, but now they seek it out. I have to soak it a bit for my ole man. Good quality fresh, I use it with 3 other venison or rabbit foods that have no chicken. Expensive, yes... but my cats really like the chicken flavor of Ziwi. They are both 13 years old and they deserve the best food I can give them. I notice their bowl movements are a lot smaller and less smelly. Try also seem to be more playful and happy. I mix it in with their wet food as a topper and it makes their coats soft and shiny. I also leave a small bit down for them at night and they will eat it dry as well. You can add liquid to it to soften it. Flavor Name: Mackerel & Lamb Size: 14 Ounce (Pack of 1)
When you open the bag of raw mackerel, you know you've made a good choice. The scent isn't exactly great for humans but it stinks just like something picky cats will beg for. And it is. The price is where there's an issue. I don't mean to say it's not a good value, but it's not as high in calories and protein as I'd hoped (but didn't check first). My cats are obsessed enough that I was doing the math on how much of their diet I could change to this product, budget-wise. Unfortunately, my pickier cat, although she flips out at the first whiff of this food, gets a (mild) upset tummy from too much. I use it as treats for them now, and she's good with a tiny amount. I hate having to write this review but I think this will contain essential info every cat owner needs. When suddenly both my Turkish Angora siblings would not touch the newest canned version of Venison, I did some research because they had always LOVED this food. I sent an email to Ziwi customer service: no, the recipe is the same, however they changed the dry recipe in January. But, if they hadn't changed the canned recipe, why would my cats not eat it? They had eaten and loved this brand for over two years since I realized that they are both allergic to chicken and fish. It was my salvation! The message from Ziwi said that some deer have different qualities and that is reflected in the canned food. OK, but, why didn't my cats reject some of the food earlier? Then, I did more research. Ziwi Peak was "acquired" in February 2022 by a Chinese Private Equity Firm, FountainVest, for $1 BILLION. Now, the charm of the original Ziwi Peak was the food was the best ever. It was started in 2002 by a deer hunter in New Zealand. Now, 21 years later, it was sold for an amazing $1 Billion. And, now, my cats wouldn't eat the Venison. Of course, the email from Ziwi said the food would absolutely stay the same, be manufactured in New Zealand. But they hoped they could really make this a popular food worldwide for cats. Obviously, the issue is a quality issue and there is a long, horrible history of Chinese companies replacing ingredients in medicine and pet foods that actually kill people and pets. So, be careful with your pet. I personally, will never buy any Ziwi food again, knowing this history. BTW, the new name is Ziwi Limited. ... show more
