Description

The Zero Tolerance 0470 is a sleek, clean and practical style designed by custom knife maker Dimitri Ninkovich. Knife enthusiasts will immediately notice Ninkovich's signature style, as well as the unique “marbled” carbon fiber insert on the front handle. To make this carbon fiber, the fibers are dropped randomly onto the manufacturing plate, then resin is added to secure the fibers and provide a smooth surface. ZT combines the marbled carbon fiber with titanium to give the 0470 a handle that’s both strong and lightweight. The premium blade is CPM 20CV high-chromium stainless steel. This powdered metallurgy tool steel has a high volume of vanadium carbides for exceptional wear resistance and a truly long-lasting edge. A high level of chromium gives it excellent corrosion resistance as well. The 0470 has a two-tone, satin-and- stonewashed blade finish that looks handsome, while ZT’s KVT ball-bearing opening and a flipper makes the knife fast and easy to open.

  • Two Lemons in a Row
For years I'd contemplated buying a ZT but they were always a little too large for EDC and too fancy for outdoor/beater use. I was excited when the company released the 0470. Finally, here was a ZT I could see fitting into my collection. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement ends. I eagerly opened the first 0470 I received and admired the precise milling and beautiful marbled carbon fiber insert. The first few flips were... okay and then the knife failed to deploy. The blade was effectively frozen in the handle. No pressure on the lockbar? Still no deploy. Try to pinch the blade out? Nope. Not gonna happen. Thanks to Amazon's fantastic return policy, I received a replacement in less than forty-eight hours. This time, flipping action was great but the lock stick was ridiculous and only got worse the more I flipped it. The lock would stick to the point that I'd have to strain to unlock it until I heard a distinct "pop" or "ping" as the lock gave up its death-grip on the blade. In addition, lockup was scary early - you'd be generous to call it 5% lockup. Along with the lock stick, this gave me almost zero confidence in my second Zero Tolerance. At this point, I'm just going to return the second 0470 for a refund and wash my hands of Zero Tolerance knives altogether. That's a shame. So far, every affordable or semi-affordable Made in the USA knife I've bought has been absolute garbage. Prior to this, I received a Kershaw Bareknuckle with a bent blade. Is KAI - the parent company of both Kershaw and ZT - going through a rough patch? As an American, I'd prefer to buy American. That being said, I think I'm going to stick with WE and Reate when purchasing in the $200 - $400 price bracket. Every knife I've owned from those two makers has been beyond reproach in terms of fit, finish and functionality. ... show more

  • One of ZT's rare strikeouts
I would like to preface this review by saying that I own around twenty ZT knives. I love ZT, and this knife won't stop me from buying ZTs in the future. However, ZT seems to have had a lot of trouble dialing in the detent on this knife. The first one I ordered had a very weak detent. I could shake the blade open with little or no effort, which made me afraid to carry the knife. I sent it back thinking it was a fluke and ordered another one. The next one I received had too strong of a detent. I had to push on the flipper tab and pull on the blade spine simultaneously in order to get it to open. Yes, I made sure I wasn't putting pressure on the lockbar. I returned this knife and just figured I needed to give up on the 0470, but a few weeks went by and I decided to try one more time. The third one came in, and the detent on it was way too strong, just like the second one. It was so similar to the second one I received and returned that I kind of wondered if Amazon had unknowingly sent me that same knife that I had returned. Ironically, I decided to give up on the 0470 and order a Kershaw Atmos, and I managed to get my hands on one with a good detent. Obviously the materials on the Atmos aren't as good as they are on the 0470, but at least it has a usable detent. I'm not sure why ZT seems to be having trouble with this particular model. I'm hoping I can find a dealer who has a few in stock so that I can handle several and find one that has the detent dialed in. ... show more

  • An exquisitely well crafted knife
This is my first ZT knife, and I am really impressed by the craftsmanship that was put into this knife. I own several Benchmade knives--at least a dozen of them-- and the ZT 0470 is just like a Benchmade Gold Class edition. The fit and finish is nothing less than perfect. There is no sideways play with the blade and ,at least with the one I received, the blade is dead center. The blade is made of the excellent cpm20cv steel which is a highly prized blade material with high corrosion and edge retention properties. The knife is well balanced and feels comfortably in the hand with no "hotspots". Visually, between the sculptured profile and the detailed millwork of the titanium scales and the marbled carbon fiber inlay, the knife is like a piece of visual art that could easily fit as a display in the New York Art Museum . As for the price, it is expensive, but well worth the price. If you are looking for sophisticated and stylish folder that is functional, this knife is defintely worth buying. One last piece of advice, since there are counterfeit knives in the market, always do your due diligence and look and study at how the knife and packaging should appear. I have always had my orders fulfilled by Amazon and have not come across a counterfeit piece, but it does not hurt to know what one is buying, especially with a high price. I have enclosed photos of the knife and its packaging for reference. ... show more

  • Great quality knife
This is a good quality knife with good action and lockup. The flipper is a little on the small side but, still works well.

  • Very well built knife.
Very light weight due to the titanium handles. Holds an edge very well. Well done all the way around. Opens like it's spring assisted but its the ball bearing pivot.

  • Another great ZT!
Amazing EDC size. Beautiful all around. Had no grind or centering issues and appears to be finished perfectly.

  • Smaller than expected
Beautiful knife with beautiful marbled carbon fiber but it is quite a bit smaller than I thought. With my large hand and being a lefty, I kept hitting the lockbar making the knife harder to open. Returning it for something bigger.

  • Great all around knife.
Great all around knife action is almost as good as my zt0460 smooth and this one as pretty much perfect detent. The only issue i had was i went to oil it and the pivot screw had way too much loctite had to put some heat on it to break loose. Beautiful knife and comfortable to carry.
