I've been using the closed faced version for a week now. This perfect for putting in a backpack and hiking out to fishing spots. I've caught several lager bass on this rod without issue. The cast is extremely smooth however the reeling in portion takes some getting used to just because of ergonomics of the handle being a lot different if you are used to spinning reels. The media could not be loaded. Ive had collapsible rods before. Always seemed a bit of a joke. This Zebco Roam, though, is the real deal. Bought for my wife. Threw new rod in a canoe and hit the river. Its light, but feels substantial. Once extended, it never collapsed and the guides never rotated during use. Wife caught a few fish, including a feisty 5.5 lb catfish with this rod/reel. After fishing, the rod easily collapsed with line hardware still intact. Its only been used once, but im not hesitant to say this Roam is a winner if wanting an affordable, compact, quality rod/reel. ... show more

Received this today [July 23, 2024]. I'm not sure if the issue is the product or seller. First the item was not packaged correctly. Second, the pole and reel was scratched in many locations. You have to zoom in to see them. Not sure if it was returned and resold, or came from factory this way. Positives: I like Zebco as a company for good products at a lower price. For those of us that cannot afford the higher quality items. The spin action was smooth and easy, as far as I got. Due to returning item I did not cast or use it.
