Description

Read more What are Shirataki Konjac Noodles? As you may guess from the name, shirataki noodles originated in Japan. They are made from the Konjac root, also called White Yam or Devil’s Tongue. They have a gelatinous texture and are a good source of the dietary fiber Glucomannan. To make the noodles, the Glucomannan fiber is extracted from the Konjac root and mixed with water and limewater. This creates a gelatinous substance called konnyaku which is made into noodle-like or rice-like substances. The finished noodles are 97% water and 3% indigestible fiber, making it a zero calorie noodle. These noodles have gained the nickname “Miracle Noodles,” and are completely paleo and calorie-free. They have virtually no taste on their own but have a slight fish-like smell when packaged wet. This is due to the water they are packaged in and can be easily rinsed off. Read more Are Shirataki Konjac Noodles Healthy? It would seem like a product like this is too good to be true, but Shirataki noodles live up to their hype. These noodles are a high-fiber food yet have no calories and no carbohydrates. The Glucomannan fiber in the noodles is a type of viscous fiber (soluble fiber). This is similar to what is found in chia seeds why they can absorb up to 50 times their weight in water. Prebiotics in Glucomannan Fiber The viscous fiber in Shirataki noodles is known as a prebiotic, meaning that it is indigestible to humans. It provides no calories or nutrients to human cells, but nourishes good bacteria in the digestive system. Glucomannan for Weight Loss Shirataki products and other Glucomannan containing foods are sometimes recommended for weight loss. These foods are no-calorie and high-fiber and are recommended on various types of diets. Glucomannan as a Resistant Starch Glucomannan is a great source of resistant starch and an incredibly easy way to incorporate this into the diet. • * Good * But Overpriced for Size *
Normally, I'd give this 4 stars. But Firstly, I don't like a seller trying to influence the review process (which is against Amazon policy.) They send buyers an email stating: "We sincerely invite you to give our products a five-star better reviews." As I stated, I would have given it 4 stars, as it tasted as well as the other Konjac no calorie noodles (these do have 5 calories a serving.) I've tried. But, these are SO expensive and come in such small packages, I have to take away a star for that and the push to give them a higher review. I normally buy my noodles at a large Asian market. They are found in the refrigerated section and costs $1.69 per 10 ounce bag. These bags are about 5 oz and come to $1.88 each. I'm paying more than twice the price for these noodles, because I need to use 2 packages for one meal for us. Therefore, it comes to $3.76 a meal, instead of $1.69. It may not sound like much, but over $2.00 more on pasta is quite a bit. Anyway, other than the price being too steep, they are just fine. I fix them, like I always do. Thoroughly rinse them in cold water in a colander, rub them with a paper towel to get as dry as possible. Next, throw them into a hot, dry skillet (that I keep just for this. Heat until you start hearing a popping sound (stirring occasionally.) They should be pretty dry. The dryer they are, the more they taste like actual pasta. Whenever I make stir-fry, I use the noodles, under the stir-fry. If you have some on hand, you can always throw some leftovers on them, a little bottled Italian or Asian sauce & you have a quick meal. I usually have leftover chicken and mushrooms in my fridge and put some bottled Alfredo sauce on it, then have a little packaged chopped salad and it's a super quick meal. Thank you for reading my review. ... show more

  • Extreme abdominal pain
I have no issue with the product taste, or working it into a dish. I was excited to have such a low calorie option to replace noodles, however this product is a bit risky. I woke up with really painful abdominal cramping. At first i had just thought i was sick, but doing my research i found that this product and others like it can be dangerous. It has a chance of congealing and plugging up your GI tract, causing extreme discomfort and constipation. I highly suggest you do your research, and decide for yourself, but i feel this product needs a warning label or something. There have been appeals for FDC to do this, and cases where patients have had to get the obstruction removed surgically. While this is an extreme case, the pain and cramping seems to be pretty common. Sad, because the noodles do keep you full for a very low calorie cost, so help supplement a healthy diet in that regard, but this discomfort isn't a good trade off. Wish i could return them, but amazon policy won't let me. Hope i can just get others to research a bit before deciding to buy or not. I would highly suggest against it if you have slower motility. If you do get them, make sure you drink a ton of water (i drink a little under a gallon a day and still had issues) and don't sit for too long afterwards, as this can increase the risk of more discomfort or constipation. Definitely only stick to one packet at most between bowel movements. ... show more

  • Dangerous product for digestion
I ate half of a bag of the noodles and ended up in the hospital with a bowel obstruction and a $12,000 hospital bill. The noodles don't break down while being digested. This product is very dangerous to eat and should be removed from all websites immediately!!

  • A worthwhile purchase
I am so impressed by these Konjac noodles! I recently learned about cooking with these low-carb noodles and decided to give them a shot. I searched on Amazon and read the reviews and like many others have stated, this brand is great! There was no smell upon opening the package so I didn’t have to waste lots of time rinsing and washing these noodles. They are ready to eat without boiling. After a quick rinse, I squeezed the water out of them and put them in a frying pan to sizzle dry on medium heat. The consistency is like that of rice noodles so I believe they work really well with Asian noodle dishes. I cooked chicken pieces and then sautéed some veggies with a homemade Pad Thai sauce and added everything together. I’m so full and feel so guilty! But honestly, it was all nutritious, low-carb, and filling. Such a worthwhile purchase. The noodles are approximately $2.25 a serving and I have leftovers! ... show more

  • This Pasta is perfect for Keto diet
Finally found something to use to make pasta dishes. When you open the package it has an "earthy" smell so I rinse the noodles with tap water and it disappears. Although the noodles really don't have a flavor, they absorb some from your dish. I happen to like the "springy" texture, gives you something to chew. It also fills you up, you don't have to eat so much and you stay full longer than with regular pasta. No carbs, no calories, what is not to like? ... show more
