Description

The History of Yo-Yo The story begins more than 400 years ago when Spanish explorers first stepped foot off their Galleons onto the shores of the archipelago in the 16th century. Noted in a news article from 1916 the Filipino historians recollect that Spaniards first introduced the spin top to local tribes when trying to describe the shape of the earth and how it rotates in space. The word “yo-yo” was forgotten for almost a decade in the USA until Pedro Flores, remembering the toy he played with as a child in the Philippines, replicated the production practices mastered by the School of Arts and Trades, and set up shop in Los Angeles in 1927. Although we can thank Pedro Flores for the concepts of mass distribution of the yo-yo, Professional travelling demonstration of the yo-yo, play pattern of holding trick contests and awarding prizes with yoyos… ultimately we need to thank the Philippine School of Arts and Trades for bringing us the first mass produced, one piece, lathe cut yoyo with a string gap so narrow that they could only loop the thin string around the axle and twist rather than securing a knot. They brought to America the modern competition capable “sleeping” yoyo. Read more YoYoFactory The yo-yo that started it all! When YoYoFactory's president, Hans Van Dan Elzen first had the idea of starting a yo-yo company, he had an idea for a yo- yo that would be so unique that it made yo-yoing easier to learn, easier to share with your friends, and ultimately more FUN. The best way to learn how to yoyo is to get a yoyo that is right for your level of skill. "Best Yoyo” is a matter of personal choice since yo-yos come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges. It depends on the age and skill of the player, as well as what tricks they want to perform with the yo-yo. • Responsive Beginner Yo-Yo
Color: Black
For anyone looking for their first yo-yo, this is a great one to start with. It is “responsive,” meaning it can come back to your hand by itself when you tug on it (the unresponsive alternative requires a simple trick to get the yo-yo to come back). You can also buy a $10 kit to convert this to an unresponsive yo-yo. It is a solid and durable yo-yo. It can take a beating, which beginners will probably give it. It spins fast and smooth, and the string holds well. MY COMPLAINT: My string snapped after just a few weeks of use and sent the yo-yo flying, but that is likely due to negligence of the user. Backup string is included in the packaging, and it is easy to restring. TIPS: Do not use over concrete/asphalt. Hitting the ground may chip paint, and the metallic paint may feel uncomfortable if it spins into your hand with a chip in it. Be prepared to invest in new/stronger string, especially if you are really tall or really short or if you like on-string tricks. Check condition of string and tightness of yo-yo around axis regularly. Do some research before buying any new yo-yo. Responsive yo-yos are harder to do on-string tricks with, as they may shoot up the string unexpectedly. But unresponsive yo-yos may be harder to learn with, as they require more experience to complete tricks and avoid tangling. ... show more

  • While the butterfly xt was a good yoyo to regain my interest in the hobby
I recently started to yo-yo again after finding a duncan imperial in the checkout line at the Naval Exchange. After a few hours of using the the imperial I decided I wanted to get a more advanced yo-yo and went back and found a duncan butterfly xt and attempted to relearn some basic tricks from my youth. After watching a multitude of trick tutorials and buyers guides I decided I wanted a higher quality yo-yo that I could learn the basics again, but also upgrade to play different styles once I became more experienced. It became evident that Yoyofactory is one the most popular brands with a wide selection of yoyos for every experience level, style of play, budget, and materials. After I received the DV888 I immediately knew I made the right choice. While the butterfly xt was a good yoyo to regain my interest in the hobby, the DV888 has allowed for more complex tricks due to its awesome sleep time, going to a 6061 aluminum yoyo from plastic feels like night and day. The quality is evident from the moment you hold the yoyo. As my skills progress the DV888 will progress with me. Yoyofactory produces a kit to covert this yoyo to a unresponsive play type for around $10 which will be handy as learn more tricks. Overall for the price this is a great for a yoyo of this quality and expandability. ... show more

  • Sting broke in an hour didn’t come with replacement string as pictured
Color: Black
Title explains itself. I would’ve ordered a pair strings if I knew it didn’t actually come with a spare. Sadge. Solid yo-yo though. 3 stars.

  • Meh
Color: Black
Seems fine for the money. String is shorter than I like and they sent the wrong color (add says black they sent blue)

Great yoyo. Spins for a very long time- about 40 seconds if thrown hard. Spins for minutes if you put the unresponsive bearing on it. Very durable. It's hit the hard floor a few times and ceiling once and no dings or anything. Very easy to take apart. I had to screw the middle screw in a bit with an allen wrench when I first got it because it wobbled a bit, but it doesn't wobble at all after tightening it. Best yo yo I've seen. I'm thinking about buying another to do two handed looping tricks. When you buy this yo yo buy some extra strings because you'll want to use it all the time and the strings will eventually wear out. ... show more

  • Very nice throw
Really like this Yo! I am a moderate player and I will say it's really smooth. It comes really responsive but can be played unresponsive as well. I don't know if you remember the original version of this Yo-Yo produced by Buzz-On but it is a great representation of it. I am happy to own it for my collection. I recommend it to anybody above beginner level transitioning upwards. ... show more

  • I thought this was supposed to be unresponsive
I thought the DC888 was supposed to be an unresponsive yoyo.. Did I get a crap bearing or did something change? Also, keep in mind this is a heavy yoyo. Which is great for certain tricks, but if you are just starting, might not be the best choice as if you mess up and hit something, someone, yourself or even your own knuckles, it will hurt. Update: Apparently yoyofactory changed this yoyo completely last year from unresponsive to responsive. I was unaware of this as they kept the same name and model number... This isn't the sellers fault but it sorta ruins the product for me, as even as a responsive yoyo, the bearing included is pretty crappy. This thing should have way more spin time considering it's weight. ... show more

The dv888 is a awesome yoyo. I wasnt paying attention when i purchased. Thought i was buying the unresponsive dv888. So when i recieved it first thing i did was order a bearing. Love how it plays unresponsive l would recommend this to anybody. Its a undersized throw.
