  • 2019 Review. I’m OCD and am surprised at this vise
I noticed some bad reviews from the past years or mixed reviews. I just got this in September 2019 and I am pleased with the fit and tolerances especially for such a “use it up and through it away” price. Either I got lucky and received “a good one” but I would rather think that the company has made great QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS over the years. For my purposes, this will probably last me a lifetime. The jaws close with precision unlike my older vise. Total height 7” inches. Jaws 3”. Top of jaw to table top 3.5”. It has 2 screw holes but so far my hardwood work bench is doing a fine job without having to add screws. I’m also not misusing the small but practical vise. I’ve cut both wood and pipe and sharpened mower blades, so far... Perfection at an incredible price for a vise this nice. Take my advice. No need to say it twice. ... show more

  • 3 stars = 5
The spot weld on the mounting clamp bracket broke. I didn't notice that it broke when I was tighening it and it put a deep gouge in my work bench. It's not a big deal for me, I will just take it to work and weld it (BETTER). The only reason I write this is for the people who don't have a work bench and decide to use a nice kitchen table. It will (even with a rag) make a mark/gouge. Other than that (which is a non issue for me) the vise is handy for a small job and deserves 5 stars. ... show more

  • Works up to 50 foot pounds
I purchased this to remove and add a barrel to an AR-15. Using the MAGPUL BEV block it worked well enough to complete my tasks. The only issue I have is that the grips are on the smooth side and do not provide traction to keep from slipping.

  • Decent Quality For The Price
This vise is about what you’d expect for $20, no more, no less. I’m using it to hold mower blades while hand sharpening them, and for that it works great. I wouldn’t expect this vise to stand up to hard use, but it holds my mower blades securely, and that’s good enough for me. The product picture shows a machined surface on the vise jaws, but the jaws are actually perfectly smooth. A machined surface would be better, but, again, this is a very inexpensive vise. Note that this vise doesn’t have a rotating base, so the jaws are always parallel to whatever bench or table edge you use. A decent tool at a decent price, for light duty occasional use. ... show more

  • ... enough mass to it that it would not vibrate like crazy or flex when I did some medium-duty cutting ...
I wanted a little clamp vise that had enough mass to it that it would not vibrate like crazy or flex when I did some medium-duty cutting and drilling. This mostly fits the bill but there are some kind of annoying things about it. The biggest thing is that the jaws are beveled a bit so that the top edge of the jaws meet but there is a gap that widens down through the rest of the jaw. This means that the clamping force is all at the very top of the jaws. It's hard to get a solid grip on larger pieces of material and they tend to slip sideways when working. It would have been nice if this had removable jaws. The little anvil on the back is a nice touch but it's very small. It seems like they could have faced it off a bit larger. Other than that it's got just enough mass to it that it doesn't vibrate or flex and it's not so heavy you can't put it in a normal drawer when not in use. I just wish it held a little tighter. ... show more

  • Good product
Better quality than the similar Irwin version sold in Lowe's. The tops of the jaws are machined and so they are aligned perfectly. A washer and a c-shaped retaining clip are used at both sides of the lead screw, while the Irwin one has only a pin, which rubs on the hole and causes binding. The package is double boxed, and there is a bubble wrap inside. There is a tiny anvil area that is also machined. Cons: The Yost logo is attached by a self-adhesive foam tape that is easy to remove. The two parallel rods were not exactly parallel. As a result, when the two jaws were getting closer to each other, more torque was needed to turn the screw. Amazon did an exchange and the new one is near perfect. ... show more

  • Its good for the price
It gets the job done but honestly if I was you I would use one that bolts down and one where the grip is textured, alright for small projects but awful for anything when you need to use a bit of force, i used a hammer to get this thing as tight as humanly possible and still couldnt get a solid grip. Still not bad for light duty work, And clamps pretty mich anywhere. For the price I couldnt ask for more ... show more
