  • Really good and affordable!
Really good lens. The price is very low, the material is very good and the image quality is excellent. You can lose some focus on 2.0, it's still nice, but on higher apertures it's excellent. I love the bokeh than can be achieved with it. I use it on my Nikon Z50 with the FTZ II adapter... and works very well. ... show more

  • Great Lens For the Price!
After about 10 years without one, I decided I really needed to have a prime standard lens for my Nikon DSLRs. I was on a very limited budget, so I took a risk and bought this lens. This was a risk worth taking. I have been shooting around my hometown of Waco with it, and also took it with me on my wife's and my 10th anniversary trip to San Antonio. With the exception of one shot that required my 18-55mm zoom lens, the Yongnuo stayed on my D5500. The picture quality rivals that of my Nikon zooms, and of course the wider aperture allows me to capture shots in low light quite easily. The construction is solid, though admittedly not as solid as my Nikon zooms. One of the trade-offs of getting this lens rather than Nikon's or Sigma's similar lenses is that the maximum aperture is only 2.0 rather than 1.8 or 1.4. For me, the trade off was worth it. Your needs may be different, so think about that before you buy this lens. My two Nikon DSLRs are half frame models, and so this makes for an excellent standard lens. If you are using a full frame camera, this will make a fine wide-angle lens. This has quickly become my go-to lens. Don't let the low price fool you, this is an excellent lens for the price. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • This is the cheap 35 to learn on
*For the cost* (very important), this lens does everything you'd need a cheap, quick 35 f/2 to do. It's build quality and feel are surprisingly nice. The focus ring is satisfyingly tactile - smooth and large enough for my fingers to grasp easily and well, unlike my nikkor D lenses. It's not the widest aperture for a 35, but for less than 100 dollars, you get functionality and value. We use this lens to film vlogs indoors with inexpensive studio lighting and it works well enough for our needs. It is soft at f2 well into the edges and is difficult to nail focus with. The AF is quite slow, but seems accurate enough. I intend to try this lens for astrophotography, but do not have high hopes due to that lack of sharpness at f2, but I'll remain open minded until I test that out. Stopped down to f/2.8 though, clarity and sharpness improve considerably. We shoot our indoor vlogs at f3.2 for that extra depth of field, but wouldn't have an issue going down to 2.8 if needed and the improved sharpness is nice at 3.2. I included two files - one full size image of a tree section unedited at f/2 (1/4000th of a second to rule out motion blur) and a cropped in version of that file to show poor sharpness right in the center of the image. The lens is a nice size. Slightly bigger than my nikkor 50mm, but smaller than my Rokinon 85mm. It works well with my Nikon D500 and when focus is on where you need it, images do look good. It also focuses close enough for near-macro photography, so that's nice. compared to other more expensive 35s out there, this is crap, but those lenses are hundreds and hundreds of dollars more in cost. That's why I give this a 4/5. It's a great lens to get the feel of a 35mm lens under your belt, but I would not recommend for pro use at all. + Good build Good Value Close Focus - Slow AF Not sharp at f/2 ... show more

  • Great image quality, better than expected build quality, fantastic value.
The 5 stars are conditional: they account for the remarkably low price of the item. This lens is an amazing bargain. I was expecting a much cheaper build quality for this price, and I knew what to expect in terms of optical quality. Plenty sharp in the center from wide open, edges and corners sharpen up quickly as you stop down. There is no automatic manual focus override, but the AF/MF switch is a nice touch. Build quality really does feel close to on par with the Nikon 85mm 1.8 G lens. I got this as a gift for my father, who shoots a Nikon D610 and D7000, and lately this lens has been living on his 610. He loves the 35mm focal length, and this is a much smaller, lighter package than his 17-35 2.8 or 24-70 2.8 The additional speed is nice as well given the lack of stabilization. ... show more

  • Bad, but for the price? Great!
The material is crap, the autofocus sucks. But compared to some of the $900-1500 lenses? Not a bad buy! Good for some basic Astro stuff, I prefer longer lenses for my portrait work but not terrible for portraits. All around? I’d probably buy it again in a pinch. Bought it to replace my sigma before a trip bc I didn’t have time to shop around for something nicer in my price range. It held up well. I would DEEPLY suggest learning to use ur cameras manual focus settings. Autofocus doesn’t rly exist with this lens. Happy shooting! ... show more

  • Good value, sharp lens
Great little lens despite what others post. I do not hesitate to use this lens professionally at anytime a 35mm is called for. Sharp from the center at wide open by ƒ/4 to the edges. Work flawlessly with my Nikon D750. Focusing slower that the Nikon 50mm G but then that does not really matter on a 35mm and there is so much depth of field anyway. I use the Nikon AF 35mm 1.8 G corrections in Lightroom and the images clean up nicely. Lightroom has no settings for Yongnuo lenses. Good buy. ... show more

  • Not great - returned
I ended up returning yhis lens. It is slow and loud. I also had trouble with focus. The Canon 50mm 1.8 is usually a little over $100 on amazon and seems to be a bit better and much less noise.

  • This lens will malfunction on -35mm FILM- camera bodies. If you want full function, get the genuine Canon version.
PROS: significant cost-savings vs the genuine Canon product that it mimics; if you are using a crop-sensor'd DSLR, this lens will mimic the end-result that a 50mm lens would on a full-frame DSLR. CONS: lens does NOT have full functionality on 35mm FILM bodies ... specifically, it will ONLY work in F2.0. In any other aperture setting, the camera will trigger an error message, This severely limits what it can do, but it is still useful in low-light conditions. Lastly, the focus motor is noisy enough that if you use this lens for video in auto-focus, you'll have motor noise in your audio. I use it almost exclusively for low-light conditions on a Canon EOS 10S. ... show more
