    • Pretty Good Reacher Grabber

After my recent lower back surgery, I needed a reacher grabber to pick things up off the floor I invariably drop. I still had one of the two from my last lumbar surgery, but when you have an upstairs and downstairs, it’s best to have at least two so you’re not constantly carrying it up and down the stairs when it’s best to be holding on to handrails. For that reason, I got this reacher grabber. It’s a full foot longer than my other one and constructed differently. I think they all use a steel cable to control the pincers. It’s foldable similar to my other one. This one uses a latch clamp to lock the folding joints in position. My other one uses a push button lock that can work loose. This one is definitely more secure. The pincers are lined with a flexible but stiff and durable silicone material. It has narrow edges that let you easily pick up small items – even off of a smooth flat surface like a desk mat, and also increase the grip on items. The magnet in the end of one of the pincers is a nice touch. However, there is no way to lock the pincers closed against what you’re picking up. I rarely use it on the other pair, but it’s still nice to have that feature. It has a nice feature where you can rotate the pincers 90° and release them to lock into their new position. My other one is locked into position, and you have to rotate your hand 90° to pick up some objects. On these, you just pull out on the pincers, rotate 90ۜ°, release them, and they will lock into the new position. Yes, you can still just rotate your hand, but that doesn’t always work as well as this method. The aluminum tubing is pretty strong and the hinged joints seem to be fairly strong. There’s a hole in the handle so you can hang it on a hook, nail, tie a strap to it, or whatever else you can come up with. Amazon Vine sent this product to me for an honest unbiased review. Would I recommend it? Yes, it’s a good choice for someone who needs a reacher grabber (even if it’s only to reach something up high). ... show more

I have ordered several of these, both for my own use and for others who need a bit of help reaching items that are on top shelves or too low to the ground for comfort (or just icky, like trash trash throws into one's yard). I highly recommend these grabbers. They are easy to use and store, and can be collapsed for even more compact storage if you would like. But I never collapse them. I like to have them on hand and ready to use as often as possible. I keep one on each floor of the house and an additional one on the porch. The grip is secure and I feel perfectly safe using it to hold a heavy glass jar or can over my head as I take it down from, or put it up on, the shelf. When I first thought of getting a grabber, I thought I wanted an all-metal grabber with three grabbing "fingers", but I was all wrong. It is much better to have a grabber with "fingers" just like this one has, and a grabber without the extra grip provided by the rubber bits would not work nearly so well as this one does. It might not be completely evident at first, so please note that you can rotate the head of the grabber to suit your needs. ... show more

I am always needing grabbers for the yard, or the house and they are all pretty similar but this one stands out as one of the best one I have gotten. I like that you can flip it up and be able to store it away easily. It has an added magnetic feature on the ends well and I have not seen one like that yet. Helpful device is great for people who have limited mobility or range of motion issues. I've owned probably a half dozen or so reachy-grabby devices over the years including one that was very similar to this one. This one is pretty good. It folds up (with a Velcro strap to keep it from unfolding) and can be easily stored away beside a chair or inside the storage compartment of a rollator walker. There are clips that hold the sections together when it's fully extended. The grabber prongs can be adjusted from a vertical to horizontal position very easily. My one and only complaint is that the action is a little bit stiff. It takes more hand strength than I would have expected to pull the handle that grabs things, you don't have to be a bodybuilder or anything but if you have arthritis or other hand-strength issues it might be a problem. I've been hoping it would loosen up a little with more use but after a few weeks it still seems pretty stiff to me. BOTTOM LINE: I would recommend this product UNLESS someone has serious hand-strength issues. ... show more

For anyone wondering about the dimensions of this once it's collapsed, see the photos in this review. It should easily fit under most car seats. Love this grabber! It's cool how small it collapses down. I've come across grabbers in dollar store chains before, but always hesitated because of the quality. I took a chance on this one for several reasons: 1. The mechanism uses a steel cable (as opposed to just plastic) 2. It is foldable 3. There's a magnet on the end of it I recently purchased my first property, which borders an old highway, and so unfortunately there's a lot of dumped garbage which has accumulated from over the years. Picking up the garbage by hand has really taken a toll on my back, and I'm hoping this grabber would help! I've done a little "test drive" around the home, and so far so good. This is quite helpful for me to reach items that I have up higher on some shelves and in my closet. It’s also helpful when for picking things up off the floor when my knees are not being particularly cooperative on some days. The rubber area of the tongs help to grip the items I’m reaching for and it folds down nicely if I want to travel with (maybe to the market) or just to store it neatly in a drawer.
