After one exchange with customer service a replacement part (including mounting hardware) was waiting on my front porch 4 days later all covered under warranty. I would have given this mower a very good review if only Yardmax had any real, actual customer service. Inside the box the mower came in, there is one of those sheets that says, "STOP ... do not return to store ... call us first". It strikes me as very odd for a company to do this but not actually have any customer service. I had a small problem that they should have been able to correct. The cap for the oil dipstick/filler does not fit properly into the pipe leading down into the crankcase. The cap has a thick section near its top where there is an o-ring with outer diameter 20 mm. But the interior diameter of the pipe is 22 mm. By design the cap does not screw on, i.e., it is held in place by friction only. As such, it needs to be snug and shouldn't wobble. The cap is so loose that it wobbles and there isn't really much friction to keep it from coming out. This is a terrible, terrible design even if it were a proper fit. But since the fit isn't snug, this is not acceptable in the least. I've had the mower now for almost two weeks. I first submitted a request for customer service via their web site. After a week there was no reply, so I sent an email. With no reply to it either, I began trying to call them, starting a couple of days ago. After selecting the appropriate menu option, there phone system advises to "continue to stay on the line ... " Yesterday I stayed on the line for more than half an hour, and no one ever answered the phone. I did this again today, but only for about ten minutes this time. It is all but certain that there wasn't anyone answering the customer service extension, and that they had so little appreciation of their customers that they left the phone answering system where it told people to stay on the line even though there was no one there to pick up the calls. Would I have bought a product from a brand that was going to treat me like this, if I had known that this is how they are? Absolutely not. As far as I am concerned, companies that treat customers this way, that show this little appreciation for their customers, need to simply go out of business. The sooner it happens, the better it is for everyone. As far as it affects their customer service, they've already gone out of business anyway. So, now I have no way to know what I should do about this oil filler/dipstick cap. I hope that they did not do this intentionally, as a way to vent the crankcase. The crankcase absolutely does need to be vented, because for a single-cylinder engine especially, the crankcase volume changes as the piston moves back and forth. But surely they did not think that it would be appropriate to vent the crankcase by using an oil filler cap that fits loosely and that might fall out and that will allow fine sand and other debris to enter the crankcase. Over time, this will surely result in destruction of the engine. I am hoping that they weren't stupid enough to think that this is an acceptable way to provide for crankcase ventilation. I am hoping that the engine has another means for ventilating the crankshaft, and that the loose cap is simply an error during assembly. There just isn't any way for me to know. I called AMZN customer service. They had another number for Yardmax, but it was just another number for reaching the same phone answering system. No help. I wouldn't have bought their product if I had known about their lousy attitude toward customers. I have to let other people know about this, and recommend to other people that they buy whatever equipment they need from another company that genuinely appreciates their customers. And based on the information I have, i.e., that the mower was shipped with the wrong oil filler cap or else with one that was intentionally too small to fit snugly, in order that this would correct the oversight with respect to crankcase ventilation, I am not able to avoid the conclusion that the engine is most likely junk. The more I think about it, the more I am inclined to think that this loose cap was their solution to the need for the crankcase to be ventilated. And when I think about this, I can't avoid thinking that the engine is a piece of junk. This, together with them not answering the phone, just doesn't leave me with a good feeling about Yardmax or their products. ... show more

Sturdy packaging. Easy to assemble handles. Does NOT come filled with engine oil. Takes about 16oz of 10w30. This mower is a 2 stroke so you MUST mix 2 stroke oil (not included) with gas before using. The height adjustment is exceptional. 1 lever for all 4 wheels. Prime it well for first start up. Runs well and cuts nice. This mower is NOT self-propelled, if that's what you're looking for, and is light enough to maneuver well. I would purchase again if ever needed. ... show more

This Yardmax gas mower has a powerful engine for a light duty machine. The large rear wheels add to the maneuverability. The mower weighs around sixty pounds and comes mostly assembled. It took ten minutes to get it unboxed and the handle attached. Make sure to add engine oil as it comes shipped dry. There's a handle to adjust the cutting height quick and easy. The mower has positives and negatives. Pro More HP than most similar sized push mowers. Solid body housing and filter casing. Folds up well. The packing box was surprisingly strong and even came with a quarter inch sheet of plywood to reinforce the box floor for shipping. Cons: the oil reservoir is a design flaw. It SHOULD be covered by the housing, but it instead has an opening cut in the housing to allow the dipstick to easily be pulled out. The problem with that is that even being covered its VERY possible for rain water to get into the oil reservoir due to this gaping design flaw. The raise/lower mechanism is locked for both front and back wheels. So you cant do certain adjustment tyupes like high front wheel which is useful for cutting a first pass on overgrown areas. The mechanism is also poorly designed and structurally weak. Within 3 months of use the rivet holding the front wheel bar to the lifting handle broke and had to be replaced with a fresh bolt and two "standoff" nuts. Easy enough repair but it should have been built stronger than that. Paint job was sketchy in some areas. The back flap LOVES going under the mower deck when mowing backwards, resulting in the flap quickly being destroyed and needing to be removed. Should have been a bolted on molding instead. The price like everything like this is WAY too high for what it is. Paid 350 for this in 2024 and I bought a vastly superior push mower in 2018 for 115$. I know inflation is a thing but thats NOT aligned with inflation. Customer service is not US based and does NOT understand the words they say. For example, I called in early in owning this, trying to get a simple tech question answered. ( I think it was about staying started IIRC). Their solution was to send me an entirely new carburetor when only a shot of "ether" was required to clean out the metal screen screwed in I have never seen a mower have.. Seriously, who buys a brand new mower with the expectation of immediately having to perform a considerably complex part replacement instead of just returning it??? I kept mine and worked out the problem, on my own research and in spite of their customer service. WEAAAAAAAK, cheapest thin plastic wheels that are not adequately bolted on. Oil IS obviously a required part but is NOT included. Summary: Its OK. It performs reasonably well once you deal with inherent design flaws. Definitely not worth the bloated price but thats only partially their fault. Its built on the cheap side yet has closer to a premium price. ... show more
