  • Decent guitar for the $
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
I immediately relpaced the saddle with a lower profile one of bone. The nut height is ridiculously high, so I will have to file it down. All in all it's a decent guitar for the $, as most guitars need similar work when new. The guitar is really pretty. The most amazing thing about this purchase is, that it arrived intact! Shiped in a triangular shipping box that was absolutely trashed-no padding or reinforcements whatsoever............come on Amazon........... ... show more

  • Guitar Came Damaged
Style: Guitar Size: Concert Set: Guitar Only
I was so excited to get this and play it, but I had no choice but to return it because the neck-to-the-body connection was cracked. the box looked like it was repacked so someone else must have returned this. I'm giving it three stars because it was easy to buy and return.

  • Quality is very nice.
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
I wasn't blown away at first by the Yamaha FG850. The sustain was short the tone was dark and the action was a bit high for me. I wondered if mahogany was the only thing making this $110.00 better than the FG830. Should I have gotten the 830 instead? The 840 is maple, I didn't want that. So after a few weeks, I changed the strings. (Duh!) Still wasn't blown away, but I lost my balance. A lot. (the action is still high for my tastes) Awesome for a beginner, great for an intermediate and functional for a professional. She's a keeper! ... show more

  • LOOKS GREAT - SOUNDS GREAT
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
the mahogany gives it a nice classy sound. not as bright or loud as the spruce but I like it for vocal accompaniment. also easier to hold bar chords than my last guitar so that's a big plus. it looks like it always wants me to pick it up so I do...mo' practice.

  • A Yamaha Triumph!
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
A solid mahogany top, beautiful workmanship, charming sound and intoxicating beauty that will lead you into the guitar. Mellow and deep lows with an exacting midrange with bright but not overwhelming highs. Made from all Mahogany, this solid top guitar conjures soft jazz, quiet ballads and exacting accuracy for the occasional classical piece. Itโ€™s definitely a steel string guitar, but let your hands and heart control the soft tones that only Mahogany can provide. Mother of pearl inlay, newly designed scalloped bracing for the top design allows for truer tones, resonance and intonation. The stock tuning keys are accurate and snug, and produce no interference with the typically thin strings trusted by Yamaha. I selected .10 to 52. Nicely satisfied and proud to add this to a 38 year old collection of Yamaha guitars. The fit and finish is as nice as expected and will be a conversation starter. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Very Good Value
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
I'm a loop artist and this guitar is ideal. This Yamaha is light weight with a beautiful.bright tone. I put in a pure mini pickup and it sounds superior to my other acoustic with the factory installed pickup. Frets are inset lower so you can set the action for smooth lead playing. It has a thicker neck too for firm gripping technique. It's not an all mahogany wood guitar, mostly spruce but very good tone. So glad to have a Yamaha back in the family. ... show more

  • Loving It
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
Yamaha guitars don't get nearly the respect they deserve, IMHO, because they're regarded as "entry level" instruments. I've owned Martins, I have a Taylor, and I'd put this guitar up against any of them for playability, sound, and build quality. And I'm not afraid to take it out of the house.

  • Yamaha is your best bang for your Buck
Style: Guitar Size: Concert Set: Guitar Only
I know itโ€™s made in China and has laminated back and sides, but if you havenโ€™t tried a Yamaha, you should, the sound and quality of these put many of the more sought after name guitars to shame, and think about it, in most cases you lose the cost of this guitar when you walk out of the store with most of the bigger name guitars. The sound that comes out of this thing amazes me, especially considering the price! ... show more
