  • Successful ASP (SAS) Calibration - Elantra
This worked for calibrating the ASP or absolute steering position, also known a steering angle sensor calibration in many other cars, but it worked to fix the typical issues after steering coupler replacement (traction control light, c1260, airbag light, etc. in this case, on a 2012 Hyundai Elantra User results may vary, and this is not intended to be taken as advice, but it worked for me. It gives you a great deal of information and is very intuitive, and I believe it just saved me some money, so I wanted to give an honest good review for this product.. life saver when compared to other more expensive products when on a budget. ... show more

  • Great tool for DIY and basic level mechanics
This is a great tool if you work on your own vehicles, are just starting out as a mechanic, or even starting out as a locksmith. I use this to do a few different things on a daily basis, and for the price, it beats others in the same price. I have an OTOfix scanner that claims to do everything the XTOOL can, but the XTOOL extremely outperforms it in the key fob/immobilizer functions. I have had the XTOOL work on newer cars (2015+) and pull security codes that the other one couldn’t. From what I can see, the Xtool seems to be “compatible” and able to read not only more makes and models, but able to read more modules as well. It is also easier to read as far as the commands for walking you through certain procedures. Most of these budget friendly level scanners are not originally coded/created in English, so the translations can sometimes be harder to understand. Overall, I have had way less issues with translations and clear language with the XTOOL scanner compared to other competitors. Their tech support also has way better English skills than other budget friendly brands as well. It’s user interface is very easy to use, so that is a big part of why I believe if you’re just starting out and don’t want to spend more than 500 bucks, this may be your go to. Everything’s easy to navigate, every once in a while I will be slightly annoyed with the speed of the scan tool, but that would most likely be my biggest complaint. Overall i would say it is very solid and gets things done, whether you’re making keys, doing diagnostics and wanting to see specific voltages, temperatures, pressures etc, or even relearning modules such as TPMS or battery maintenance modules in European vehicles. It for me has covered stuff from American made, to Japanese, to Korean, and done everything I’ve asked of it on European cars. I have friends in the business with snap on and Matco scanners that may have a few more functionalities, but as a basic to moderate level mechanic, I have yet to have something I can’t complete with my XTOOL scanner. I also like the size of the XTool. The scanner itself isn’t too large. Some may like a larger screen, but I feel like the Xtool is quite adequately sized while being compact enough too. My Xtool pulls the same codes, does many of the same functions, and recognizes the same cars as their scan tools can for literally 2% of the price of some of theirs. Mobile mechanics, entry level technicians on most euros, entry to moderate level techs for American/japanese/korean makes, independent shops, and most locksmiths will be able to use this tool and all of the functionalities of it with no issue. If you are a higher level technician, especially for diesel or European stuff, I may look to see if there are other options, but other than that this scan tool will be perfect for most! ... show more

  • Really important to have one of these if you work on cars often. The D7 is a great choice.
My friends and neighbors always hit on me diagnose their cars after they visit their mechanic. Usually complain that they didn't get a good diagnosis and just had parts thrown at them. I am amazed at that level of data that the D7 can deliver when scanning. Works on every car make. Its a real professional level tool. It takes a bit to learn and understand all the features. Its packed with features. Once you understand how to read and analyze the data you can find and fix things before they trip the check engine light. Some things will go bad and not trip the light. Fixed one problem where the shop said it was a bad transmission. Turned out the steering angle sensor needed to be reset. The D7 has an SAS reset function. The D7 has a great display and once you learn the menus it easy to find things. If anything is bad its there's too much info. It helpful if you understand how ECUs / ABS / SRS systems work and can narrow down which systems to look at. You can then just select those items you want to monitor and record. I got the Xtool D7 because it was on sale. Was watching for a sale and got a great price. ... show more

  • 2001 Saturn SL2
My D7 Limited review from a partly shade tree mechanic... Purchased June of 2024. A little back ground. The SL2 does not have ABS. My basic need was for actuation test, some special features and real time monitoring. Actuation testing when well. The D7 was able to access ever thing indicated in their support list. Light up the instrument lights/swing needle on gauges, turn on the smog air pump, turn on the fuel pump, adjust the IAC PWM, click transmission solenoids, purge valve, .... an extensive list. The D7 came up short on two advertised special functions, Cylinder power balance and Crankshaft pos. variation learn. The D7 indicated "not yet implemented". I guess there is some hope. Compared to the $150 Tech2 clones that don't work. An easy win for the D7. Compared to an used Tech2 that sell for over $1000 on ebay the D7 comes up a little sort. Choices I may going with the least expensive model from Xtool. I find the D7 to be a play. Worked well with a 2012 Sonic LS. The screen is a little small and the internal 32GB is a little little light. For my needs, a good tool box companion. I leave it on/connected to my wi-fi 24/7. It updates frequently. I've seen many updates for 2024 model year vehicles. I'm hoping this is a good sign. ... show more
