  • Xiaomi Redmi 9 Review: The Basic Redmi Shoulders Up to the Note
I've been contemplating on buying a Xiaomi smartphone for quite some time and had tried the Redmi Go on an impulse purchase, saw the Redmi 8 and decided to sit it out, then came the Redmi 9 and so did reviews. I watched a few video reviews and tutorials on how to maximize your experience before purchasing. Here are my thoughts. First Impressions: I don't go all out with buying super cheap phones, I consider what I need and design to some degree plays a role in that. Is this phone really big? Yes. Can it be too big at times? Yes. Then, what do I need a phone this big for? Productivity, above all else. I dig that this has a plastic body because as big and wide as the Redmi 9 is, what minimizes the dropping risk is the textured back and included clear case which isn't actually terrible for once. The design reminds me of the Note 8 Pro but scaled down and made of plastic. I can feel the larger battery in this device yet the weight is equally distributed and I haven't had issues with bottom or top heaviness. Hardware and Utilities Performance: We have a headphone jack and USB-C on the bottom (which I prefer) and an IR blaster at the top which from my experience works OK. Not great, Just OK. Microphone performance is not much better nor any worse than on slightly less or more expensive phones I've used, they're clear enough to get my words through, as is the loudspeaker. Headphone performance is identical to my last phone, a Galaxy A10E. The fingerprint scanner works quite fast, but the positioning and raise makes it too easy to trigger with a palm, which obviously cannot be recognized. Facial recognition is stunningly better than on other devices with an identical front facing camera setup. Speaking of cameras, the Redmi 9 punches its pay grade aggressively but not well above it. With outdoors shots its serviceable and while indoors it's rather subpar, no ideal image stabilization but can be compensated once the conditions are suitable. The display is Full HD, in mathematics, 1080p, which is something many other OEM's are afraid of putting in a phone under $200... you get what you pay for and it isn't that visible on full brightness while outdoors. The battery is amazing, considering I'm not a power user, I get a good four days of battery without feeling urgency to recharge, even at 45% - below half! Finally, the productivity comes in the form of four gigabytes of RAM, which makes a huge difference, especially since the chipset sits around the performance range of "super budget gaming" (Mediatek Helio G80), so this thing flies between tasks, at least seven to eight apps before things begin to restart on resume. Software: This is where I'm highly mixed with Xiaomi phones. I sit between the overly cautious experienced user and the average nobody who just uses what's available. If you are using Xiaomi smartphones you are dealing with ads and a bunch of bloatware you aren't immediately able to uninstall without special tools. I don't like rooting, I'm unreliable at it, so I break things. Using a no-root solution called ADB Fast Tools, I was able to remove most of the ads and other crap I don't feel comfortable lingering on my phone - as well as most Google apps except for four. That aside, Xiaomi did a better job with MIUI 11, adopting common features rather than riffing on iOS. I prefer a black dark mode with color accents as opposed to just dark grays, this version of MIUI just does it right. Gestures aren't as important to me, maybe because it's another software thing I'm bad at, and I misfire the spacebar as a go-home swipe a lot. For all the apps I unloaded using the aforementioned tool, I went with simplified alternatives with barebones functionality, abandoning the stuff I couldn't unload with these simpler apps as well. Overall Pros & Cons: +acceptable build quality +fantastic battery life +very fly performance for the price +MIUI improvements align with stock Android -awkward and oversensitive fingerprint scanner -gesture navigation isn't good enough for me -bloatware -system app advertisements ... show more

  • Works good for the price.
I’m giving 5 starts to a cell phone under $200 that looks good and works good for the price. The product I received was as advertised. The box is sealed from the factory, no scratches and received my product well protected. I like to be the first one opening my products, I’m happy I was the first person doing the unboxing of my phone. I was scary with those reviews that said (received box with charger but the cell phone was not in the box). The shipping was fast. The seller put very good attention to details by adding an adapter for users in the USA and Several Countries in Latin America, this is because this cell phone comes with European charger which requires to use an adapter in USA and Latin America. From the factory, this cell phone comes with a (Type B) connector, the seller added a (Type A) adapter which I appreciate. The phone works as I expected for a cell phone under $200. My wife is using this phone and has no complaints. She does not play games it, she is a normal user, social media, YouTube, WhatsApp, calls and so on. She normally gets two days from one change of the battery. I know that games could drain the battery faster, but we haven’t test that. The camera works, I’m not going to say is very good, but I understand that for the price, is intermediate camera. ... show more

  • Loving it
Discovering new things everyday. Love love love the camera functions- slow mo and full view are tge best. The battery life is and issue though. Some days the percentage takes forever to drop and on others it depletes quicker than I would think. The speaker volume is loud. It makes me feel confident that the speaker will last a good while. On the other hand the bluetooth volume is low. It's kind of disappointing. The case that comes with it fits like skin. The device is not too bulky but it is weighty 🤷🏽♀️. Anyways, in my opinion the phone is worthy have, I really do not want anything to go wrong with. I love it. ... show more

• Camera takes oversaturated pics
I really love Xiaomi and Redmi phones. This is my third one and I've usually had a good experience with them. This is also a great phone too, especially for the price of $148 which I paid and beautiful green color. I like everything about this Redmi 9 and all it's features, except when I take pictures with it, they come out over saturated in color. I've been trying to remedy it by trying different settings. I've even tried different phone camera apps but they still turn out too bold in color. Not sure exactly what is causing this unless it's an algorithm issue. Perhaps a Xiaomi camera app update will cure the problem. Otherwise, everything is great about this affordable smartphone. The screen is actually better looking than my more ex pensive AMOLED screen phones. It has a very natural color and quality. So, as of right now, I don't use this phone often for photographs. Sound quality is fantastic using earphones and headphones. So it must have a quality DAC chip. Would give the phone 5 stars but because of the problems with the camera, it gets only 4. ... show more

  • Buen celular
Compré 2 de estos celulares para 2 amigos y funcionaron a la perfección. Ellos tienen más de un año utilizándolo y están en muy buenas condiciones (con cover protector) y aún funcionan. La foto es decente considerando el precio del artículo.
