Works very well, found my leaks
Style: [Basic edition/Corona Technology] CLD-100UV
I was specifically looking for a product that did the following: - used electronic method for finding leaks; I despise using soap or ultraviolet - used one of the following electronic methods: Corona; heated diode; ultrasonic - uses normal batteries (this one uses 4 AAA); some models use C batteries
which I don't have a recharging system for This one uses the Corona method which means: "The instrument uses two electrodes with a current of a known baseline passing between the two electrodes. If there’s a leak present, the refrigerant will pass through the electrodes and, in turn, interfere with it (it causes a drop in the current). The drop in current will sound an alarm. The more the interference, the higher the concentration and the larger the refrigerant leak." It's a tried and true method. I was able to easily find my leaks with this product. You must let the product "heat up" for about 10 seconds before you use it. Just turn it on, and hang out for 10 seconds. Finally, the unit beeps all the time...maybe about once a second...while it's in detection mode. That might irritate you. It doesn't bother me. If it finds a leak, the beeping speeds up significantly which is easy for my ears to hear. If you don't want to hear it beep all the time which it's detecting, get the newer model that they sell. Costs a little more. Overall, I am very happy with this product. Good bye soap!

The unit took awhile to find a leak.

I like the attached light. The adjustable sensitivity feature was ok. I found that I had to go over the suspected leak area a few times before the beeping started. Once it sensed a leak, the unit seemed to work ok. For the money and for occasional use, it works ok.

Purchased for work as our fridge “seemed” to be leaking Freon because we always have to refill it. However the scanner didn’t indicate a leak so I’m not sure if we have a leak or not haha.

If you're looking for a low cost option to find a leak in your AC system, this will do the job. I needed a leak detector to determine which component of my Mr. Cool mini split system has a leak. I found it with this tool within a few minutes. Easy to use, great price.

Didn’t work the first time, right out of the box
Style: [Basic edition/Corona Technology] CLD-100UV
I purchased this in late May and didn’t get a chance to use it until July. It didn’t work at all. I confirmed that it didn’t detect a leak by intentionally exposing it to Freon when I suspected it wasn’t working. The return window was only 30 days. Don’t believe the decent reviews.
