  • workable, after complex setup
Style: Printer
The setup of this entry-level SOHO printer is baroque, comparable to that of its larger industrial-grade cousins. Scenario: you plan to take advantage of basic operations. The copier will work out of the box (duh!). Scan to USB will work out of the box, more or less. Print from PC will require drivers installation, as usual , so YMMV depending on you operating system and your skill for a little sysadmin. However, there is still the first-power-on setup to take care of, including setting an administrative password (an inescapable, required, mandatory step). Having attempted to overlook this latter on my first try (it's my personal micro office printer), I ended up locking myself out of the printer that was, accordingly, semi-disabled. A fix required finding out the default password, and resetting the lock. Neither was particularly easy... The default password, according to incorrect (obsoleted) info from the xerox web site, could have been the 1111 four-digit pin, but it was not. It turned out to be the serial number of the printer, available (among the rest) from the sticker in the back. To reset the lockout the support website said call service (oh, no, the ghastly 800 number...) but -- another support page said (for a different model) -- just try a power cycle. Fortunately the latter worked, phew. So, a word to the wise, DO set up that password when asked, and write it down somewhere. And that was the beginning... I run on Linux (Ubuntu 18 LTS) and windows 7, so installing drivers was a bit of a hit and miss, but yes, there are (proprietary) drivers for Linux in .deb and .rpm packages (not much readily available documentation, tho). A little more advanced scenario: If you plan to add remote scanning over the network, be aware that the most recent .exe installer (2/2020) from the website will not (at least on window 7) install any scan functionality even after (yes, you need to do that) enabling aministratively the network TWAIN service from the http control center of the printer. For any advanced scenarios, you need be at least somewhat familiar with a good alphabet soup of network acronyms. The good part: most printers these days follow the logic of shaving products: "the razor is a loss leader, sell them the blades." Since the paper feeder of my previous laser MFP (a much simpler small workhorse) started jamming way too often, I was looking for a replacement with a workable cost for expendable (toner, drum) items given a modest, but not trivial, duty service requirement. The Xerox 3335 seems, at least on paper, to fit the bill. Time will tell. ... show more

  • Hard to setup and impossible to get all of the features working.
Style: Printer
What looks like a great device could be that but it’s not. Before I begin I’m in the tech space with 30 years experience so I know what I’m doing. The setup is very difficult and the documentation is horrible. What’s really troubling is there are very few articles and YouTube videos on this printer. First, to use the printer with the Ethernet port you have to turn it on. This is where the first really bad communication challenge occurs. It says the login is admin with the password 1111. That is not correct, while the login is admin, the password is the serial number. That’s insane. What a pain that was to figure out. Ok, so that was corrected, then I went to setup the email and Scan to feature. Absolutely a horrible experience. After a two hour call with Xerox even they gave up. I purposely didn’t buy a HP because they are junk. My last printer, a 7740 lasted less than two years. I can say that they do have a smooth setup and every thing worked right out of the box. The quality of the print on the 3335 is good and it is quiet but the interface and setup is a total nightmare. For those who are not tech savvy, stay away or you’ll lose your mind. I finally got the email working after nearly 4 hours of trial and error but gave up on the scan to my pc feature. I guess I’ll keep it but I really can’t give it any more than 3 stars. ... show more

  • Confusing TWAIN drivers set up for Windows 10.
Style: Printer
I like it a lot now, but I had a hard time with the set up because it did not include detailed instructions. It comes with a CD disk with installation drivers. The drivers on the disk did not work well with Windows 10. Therefore, please note that on the driver installation CD there is a link to "ALTERNATIVE DRIVERS". Clicking on this link will direct you to the Xerox support page with the Windows 10 drivers for download; and those work fine. I only wish it would have had instructions telling Windows 10 users not to use the drivers on the CD. Also, when used as a printer, each printing task will include a work station identification cover sheet. I could not find instructions on how to turn this feature off until I searched the Xerox FAQ pages and found out that Xerox calls it a "BANNER SHEET" and that can be turned off. I hope this helps. ... show more

  • Great machine, archaic setup
Style: Printer
The good: for the money, this advice’s scanning and printing speed is second to none. The bad: be prepared for a way-too-complicated setup process. All told, I spent nearly 3 hrs. on the phone getting the scanner to direct scanned docs to a specific file. I don’t think it has anything to do with my running it on a Mac computer. I hung in there only because I remembered that my first multifunction machine (8 yrs. ago) was a Xerox and it worked like a champ. Now that I’m up-and-running, I expect the same performance with this one. ... show more

  • MAJOR STEP UP FROM INKJET
Style: Printer
This machine was a cow to install - not at all intuitive and they dont supply some key codes you will need - so dont waste your time trying - just call support straight away once assembled ... they will give you the correct codes and you'll be off to the races. I had a relatively new cheap inkjet. This is like stepping into the space age - it performs as advertised... Im writing a book and it spat it out in a few minutes. Not one jam or issue and it looked great on the paper. I highly recommend this system - just call for the install. ... show more
