  • Diabetic Neuropathy Now with Style
There's not a lot of items that compel me to write a review (good or bad). I'm diabetic, but I do strive to live at least a semi-athletic lifestyle... but that means shoes are an important decision for me. I'm also a designer and kinda strive to present my own image as somewhat nuanced. Diabetic/orthopedic (or however you want to classify them) shoes are all totally lame and made for old people that don't get out much... and really don't help me. I usually find myself constantly going back to NewBalance which have some decent options, but are still lame and I'm getting way bored having to settle for them... I also have a lot of criteria when choosing a new shoe because of my neuropathy. These Xero Shoes just hit every single nail with one fell swoop and I'm overly excited about them. First, they look great. They are super thin so they don't make my feet look overly big and the design is that of modern activewear. I like how these specific ones have a low ankle. They are light. It's almost like putting on another sock. Drop-foot is one of my issues because I no longer have a heel reflex. These are the perfect weight. The main inside of the sole is a little rough for me (but understandable for more of the barefoot feel) but the optional, included insole is perfect for the bottom of my foot and doesn't take up much room. Which brings me to my next criteria. They are way roomy, despite the tight look. Nothing is compressed, which is a main source of some pain that I have. My toes are free and nothing is pushing down on the top of my foot. The sole is perfectly balanced in protection and feel. I still remain as active as anyone who has a full-time job can. A lot of that is hiking and nature-type stuff, when it's not too hot. These shoes allow me to run and feel the ground without sacrificing the protection needed to divert the pain of rocks and everything in my way. I feel like I want to wear them to bed because of how comfortable they are... my wife won't let me. ... show more

  • Look ok. Didn’t last 5,000 miles
Delivered July 2 and I just noticed a hole where the sole wore down today (October 5). And so, no. They didn’t last 5,000 miles as advertised (guaranteed?). That said, I liked them and will likely buy yet another pair in black to replace these. I’m just really hard on shoes. They are incredibly comfortable (so long as your feet and legs are accustomed to minimalist shoes). They are every bit as comfortable as wearing no shoes at all. And the black ones don’t look too much like clown shoes. (I have a pair of the white ones, too, and I think they do look a bit like clown shoes. You’ll get some sideways stares when out in public, lol). Bottom line, I believe in this company and I like their philosophy and their shoes. I believe they would honor their guarantee if I pursued it. Oh, and do order 1/2 size up. In 9 1/2 these fit great. I normally take size 9. ... show more

  • What are you waiting for? They're right here! Do it! DO IT NOW!!
Team Name: Speed Force II Size: 12 Color: Nimbus Cloud
Before I get into my actual review, let me tell you first how much I wanted a pair of these. I followed the sizing guide on the Xero Shoes website and ordered a 9. I was so excited I even paid extra for next day shipping! Then, they came and I was super stoked, until I tried them on. Sadly, too small. What? But I wear a 9 normally! I reached out to the company, who was incredibly expedient about getting back to me and decided to return the 9s and get a pair of 9.5. They arrive a few days later and what, they're still a little too small! Flabbergasted at this point, I considered either committing seppuku, or maybe even grinding my feet down to fit this size. I decided instead that I would just try a size 10, so I sent the 9.5s back and ordered a 10. Got them last Friday and wonderfully, I've worn them all week as these fit! Finally I was basking in the holiness of Xero Shoes. And it has been glorious. I've been wearing them every day for the last week for a minimum of 8 hours per day, and sometimes up to 12+, and I have to admit that they've already become my favorite shoe. I'm used to wearing flat-soled shoes like Chuck Taylors or Vibram Five Fingers and these are way more comfortable, and genuinely don't feel like they crowd my toes into a little box. They do take some getting used to if you're not acclimated to a more barefoot style shoe, but for those of us who are, there's very little break in period. I stand on my feet most of the day, so I'm quite used to fatigue, but these definitely don't leave me feeling the same way after a long day. Even after walking several miles in them my feet still don't hurt nearly as much. The fact that they have a wider than normal toe box is definitely a benefit, and one of the biggest selling points for me. The lightness of the shoe is also impressive; I do lots of calisthenics and bar work and even an extra pound or two can really throw off your balance, so it's wonderful that these really don't. Who wants a back lever to suffer because of the wrong shoes? Now I also have to admit that these aren't perfect. I love the styling on them, but when I look down at my feet I almost imagine I'm wearing a pair of Birkenstocks. I think it's the wide toe box that makes me think that, but I love Birks so I'm not complaining. Because they're canvas, they do breathe, but I find that if I don't wear socks, my feet tend to get sweatier. These can be washed fairly easily though, so I'm not concerned. I have them double-knotted so I can wear them as slip-ons, but I also ride a bike a lot and am somewhat afraid the laces are going to come undone even after double-knotting them. Those are really my only gripes with the shoes, and even those are minor compared to how amazing they are. In summation, (I've always wanted to say that, :D), I am definitely in love with my Xero Hanas and plan to buy a pair of their sandals very soon, and possibly a pair of Prios. ... show more
