  • Easy To Lose Interest
I bought this robot several years ago when they first came out because I saw an awesome ad about it. It looked like a fun and easy to control robot. All you needed was an app from the playstore then you could have it do all types of different moves including carrying a can of soda across the room. Not so. It's very difficult to get it to stay upright long enough to carry anything. It took a long time for me to master this. I was also disappointed to find out it wasn't rechargeable. Now it just sits on a display shelf with my Pokémon figurines. ... show more

  • EXCELLENT! We love MIP!! But be warned, MIP eats batteries like crazy!
Incredible!! This is one AMAZING toy!! We purchased it for our 7 year old son for Christmas and my husband and I had just as much fun as he did with it! I LOVE the sounds MIP makes, its as tho there is a real little robot running around our living room! Excellent when used with the APP, my son had a little trouble using the hand-motions to get MIP to move, but using the MIP app on his ipad made it much easier! Definitely recommend downloading the MIP app!! The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because MIP eats batteries!!! We went thru 2 sets of AAA just the first night of using him! We recommend HIGHLY that you invest in a set of 4 rechargeable AAA batteries to save money in the long run! We were very very disappointed that MIP did not come with a built in rechargeable battery with a USB port to charge on a computer etc...opening the back 3 screws proved very difficult as the screws were factory installed terribly tight so when we unscrewed them they almost stripped out...once open we always remembered to very gently tighten the screws back so they wouldnt completely strip out...this is the ONE huge complaint we had was battery life and a bad battery pack design!!!!! Otherwise, tho MIP is pricey $, we were VERY happy with it!!! ... show more

  • Good Quality - but missing features for lasting use...
This is a four star product in many ways. But I'm giving it three due to the following factors... Excellent build quality and hardware features. However, without some additional software and accessories this you won't see lasting use. Hardware: you WILL need a phone or tablet to unlock the limited potential of this toy. The included gesture and sound functionality is too rudimentary (and yet also hard to acess consistently) for lasting interest. If you don't plan to provide access to a tablet or phone, get WowWee's robotic dog product instead. Although it is easy to set up an obstacle course or seesaw on your own, purpose-built accessories would go a long way towards providing a "fiction" for the toy to inhabit, as well as proven fun activities. Software: the existing apps are very well made and provide a significant boost to the toys functionality. I'd say about 75%. However, most are of limited scope and soon become repetitive. The best feature is the ability to remotely drive the robot and also record its adventures. I'd like to see a feature that allows kids to rudimentarily program the robot (perhaps to interact with purpose built accessories) not just activate sounds and colored lights... I'd also like to see the toolset opened to adults (Lua scripting?) so that they can extend the functionality for Pre-K through K STEM learning. I understand trying to hit price points is important. But this is either a $75 toy with a few $25 accessory kits, or a $125 toy all in. The existing package (while decent) is limiting the potential of the product. ... show more

  • (We have Cozmo and compared to how easy cozmo is
This toy is some what enjoyable only when you’re using the app. It’s a bit difficult to drive it because it turns on a dime and then you’re left trying to drive it backwards and thinking of the opposite things to do to get it to turn around. (We have Cozmo and compared to how easy cozmo is, this thing is a challenge.) Also the battery dies very quickly and they’re not rechargeable so changing triple A’s every two days gets really annoying. I have read other reviews about that as well so it’s a common issue. I was expecting it to be better than it actually is but my 3 year old son seems to like it, especially the boxing feature and feeding it, so i decided to keep it for his sake. Otherwise I would’ve returned it. ... show more

  • To really have fun with it you need the MiP app
Bought this as a Christmas present for my 8yo son. He really loves robots, and so far this toy has him in heaven. The few things you can do with the robot alone isn't all that much. To really have fun with it you need the MiP app. The app requires a smart device with BLE Bluetooth. My phone is the only capable device we own that supports that variety of Bluetooth. I'm impressed with the range of it's Bluetooth transceiver. I can get close to 30' away and still control the robot from my phone. It takes 4 AAA batteries. The battery life is pretty good as long as you keep the robot on a hard flat surface, like the kitchen or dinning room floor. The robot will travel over carpet but it really drains the batteries. ... show more

  • Fun Gadget, but Less Exciting than a Drone or RC Car
I purchased both Mip Robot and MiPOsaur for my twin boys. They are fun to play with as a novelty, and controlling them with a tablet / phone could not be easier. MiP can actually carry a can of soda on it's tray and deliver it to someone - very impressive balancing. There is a battle option between the MiP and MipOsaur - but in our scenario, the MiPOsaur never took any damage no matter what we did, and MiP Robot lost every time. Between the two, I think the boys have more fun playing with the MiPOsaur, but I am more impressed by MiP Robot from a technical point of view. ... show more

  • My Son Loved It- but Must Download the App!!
Got this for my 10 year old son for Christmas and he loves it now that he downloaded the app on my cell phone. Without the app it was cute but not as fun as he couldn't do as much. Once he downloaded the app, and connected the Mip to my iPhone it opened up a whole new world- he can dance, make funny noises, you can drive him around and take control of him (so you don't have to use had signs) he even toots (which my kids thought was hilarious..) he can bring you thinks, and if you have two Mips they can box each other. We tried to download the Mip app on the our kindle fire as well, but it seems to work better with the iPhone. With the app, it's probably my sons favorite Christmas gift and now his 8 year old sister wants one too :) ... show more
