As a long time owner of cats, I'm always looking for ways to cut down cat hair in my house and while doing laundry. I recently learned about wool balls that might help so I thought I would give them a try. After using them for a few weeks I was impressed that I didn't see any cat hair on anything coming out of the dryer although it usually wasn't very bad with regular dryer sheets either. Then there was finally a load in which a big clump of cat hair was stuck to an undergarment and a T-shirt was covered in what I'm guessing is some of the wool from one of the balls but was nowhere else to be found. Even though the contact the balls continually make should in theory loosen hair, it always seems like there is one piece of clothing that has some magic property that will attract a clump of hair and not get vented out. With both the wool balls and dryer sheets, there are periodically big clumps of pet hair that simply get missed but they work well overall. The wool balls I received did not have any kind of strange smell like some others have reported but it probably is a good idea to wash them alone beforehand since they are pure wool, an animal fiber. For years, when using dryer sheets I would always put a dry towel in with the wet stuff which helps the overall load dry faster. I'm not sure if two or three balls or a towel works better to speed up drying, but the wool balls on their own should definitely reduce overall drying time if you don't already do the towel trick. I do like that the dryer sheets I use have a slight scent. I see some people have experimented with putting a small amount of essential oil in their wool balls and letting them thoroughly dry (to not get clothes oily) which I might try with one to give a little scent. Like all groceries, dryer sheets have gotten more expensive also. The price of these wool balls has decreased recently so they should easily pay themselves off and last a long time. I have been using three of them and have the other three to switch to if they ever show signs of wear. I also like being a little green with these and not having to discard used dryer sheets.
