I purchased these for my students to use as a classroom management tool. Students got to choose their egg and decorate it. They are very pretty with the designs already etched into it. The little tie did not last on many of them because the students played with them. Not a big deal. I told students that they had to sit on their eggs and order for them to hatch. Kindergarten students can be so literal that I did have to tell them that not a real chick would hatch from their wooden egg! Students that did well sitting came back from an activity and found that their egg had, a crack ( Zigzag line made with a sharpie) and a treat. I used peeps. Ordered these for a holiday activity and tried one ahead of time for this review. 1. The cutout tree blanks are nicely done. There were no rough edges or splinters and the surface is sanded smooth enough for painting. The edges appear to be stained dark or the interior of the plywood is composed of a dark wood. The predrilled holes in the top star also have no chipping or splinters. 2. The material itself appears to be 1/8" Baltic birch plywood (which is slightly less than 1/8", or about 3mm thick). Because the listing didn't indicate this, I had assumed it would be solid wood. While not an issue for painting, I was also thinking of using scorch pens but would not want to do so with plywood. On the positive side, plywood is much more stable than thin, solid wood. 3. There are no knotholes or other issues with the surfaces, as you would expect with quality Baltic birch plywood products. 4. Paint adheres nicely and these will lend themselves to a nice holiday activity for both kids and adults, with a "take-home" ornament at the end. 5. The included cords are a little rough and you might want to use another cord/string/holder for hanging as an ornament. In sum, these little wood blanks will make nice ornaments and a fun activity for holiday gatherings. ... show more
