  • You should really try it in person first.
This is the only rest that I have really gotten to wo4rk for me. It is very likely that it will work for you as well because of how customizable it is. Thought getting it to the point where it feels comfortable took me a few weeks. It's not an immediate fix for discomfort. Pros: Main feature of this rest is its customization potential. Most parts can be manipulated. The bar can be bent, but remains stable during use, the right left can be moved in and out and rotated to a very large degree. The left leg can be rotated, but not moved in and out like the right. Both feet can be raised and lowered quite a but. The pad on the bar is quite nice, and feels like it will remain quite connected to the bar, something that is not true of all shoulder rests. Cons: My main issue is the feet. I have only had this for a few months, and the rubber on the feet is already starting to wear out. At first the rest stick quite nicely to the violin ,but now it is starting to fall off, and even the back sides of the feet are wearing out and oddly loosing their color. Perhaps this is due to the way I have it sitting in my case, but I have the rubber on other rests, like FOM last for much longer. Frankly this thing looks kind of janky which might put off some. Because most of its components can be manipulated, nothing looks as nice as other rests in this price range. No maple bar or gold feet poles here. But comfort trumps looks easily, but it may be something to keep in mind if you are particularly superficial. ... show more

  • Great for long necks!
I'm a tall guy with a longer neck. I would often get neck pains after playing my violin for long periods of time, but after getting this shoulder rest, and putting the extenders on it, I no longer get pain. Very comfortable. Only complaint is there are other shoulder rests that stay on a lot better, but this hasn't been much of an issue with my style of playing. Just something to be aware of. It tends to fall of easier after years of use, but with the great price point, just replace it when it gets to that point. I recommend if you are tall and have a long neck. ... show more

  • You need to know what you want from a shoulder rest.
I had no experience with a shoulder rest that really supported from the shoulder - Kuns and Everests just kept the violin flat, which meant I believed all along I'd have to jam my chin down for the rest of days. So when the Forte Secondo arrived with slanted feet I was completely perplexed for at least three hours. Only an email to Wolf customer support (they told me to try again) led me to realize I needed to really understand what I wanted my shoulder rest to feel like - and I found I wanted the violin about the same angle horizontally but an inch or so higher than what the Everest could provide. Now it's working like a charm, and ten times more secure in the feet than either Everest or Kun! Coming from low-medium shoulder rests, I did have to take a few hours after that to let my muscles adjust - my left arm had never really risen that high, so I ended up with a sore (what I think the muscle's called) supraspinatus, but the soreness was gone the next day. ... show more

  • Fits and works well
I like it, it fits my Cecilio 500 4/4 violin nicely, feels comfortable on my shoulder, seems quality made. I put little tape marks on the back of my violin to mark where i put the shoulder rest so i don't have to guess it's position each time i take it off to clean the violin and have to readjust it, this way it goes back on exactly where i like it :D Good job Amazon: I purchased one of these shoulder rests from my local music shop, cause i like to support local businesses... However, the local shop was charging $55 for this, i thought it seemed a little high priced, but i bought it anyway... Got home and checked here on Amazon to find it for 60% less than the local shop!!! So yeah, i ordered it here from Amazon and when it arrived i put it on my violin and took the other one back to the local shop...sorry local shop, I understand charging a little more for brick and mortar but 60% more is just stealing my money, shame on you! Thank you Amazon :D ... show more

  • WOW - infinitely adjustable
This shoulder rest has done more to improve my playing more than any other accessory or upgrade. It is infinitely adjustable because the metal is bendable and twistable. There are Youtube videos that show how to customize the shoulder rest to fit your body perfectly. Search "Magic Posture" on youtube to see for yourself. It has made practicing so much more comfortable - the violin is at exactly the right angle, and I no longer feel like I have to hold up the violin, so my left hand is relaxed and free to move about the strings like it's supposed to. I have seen other reviews that say that this shoulder rest does not stay on the violin well - they most not be using the shoulder rest properly because every part of it can be adjusted, including the curve of the metal. There will always be a way to make it fit snugly on the violin. This will be the last shoulder rest you will ever need. ... show more

  • If you don't like the tilt feature, there is a fix for it...
Aside from the height adjustability, which is good for people with long necks, this rest also has a tilt feature, which doesn't lock in place. I like it best in the nearly upright position. The tilt hinge is one one side, so you only have to stabilize that one side. First take the large plastic screw out to get better access to the hinge. Then just wrap masking tape around the hinge, or wire or something you can remove. You want to make sure you like the feel of it stabilized and in what position you want it stabilized. Once you are pretty sure you like it stabilized, then for a permanent fix you could solder it, I suppose, but I'm not sure solder could stand the pressure. I'd suggest using masking tape because it doesn't stretch like plastic tape. You can also use aluminum tape. Wrap it tightly and MANY times around, otherwise the hinge will still try to tilt. It's quite possible that you fine it more comfortable not in the fully upright position, in which case you can insert something like a wooden match stick or some tape in that place where two metal parts meet, before you wrap the hinge. ... show more
