  • Awesome product, will buy more!
Bought these for my old dulcimer as it had hand carved wood pegs that always slipped or tuned with difficulty. Took these out of the package and slipped them right into the tuning peg holes - no extra work required. They have four slight ribs to hold them in place, but not enough that they will damage the original peg hole, so the old pegs can work again. Once in place, I setup the strings and played music within an hour of opening the package. They do crank slowly, which is a pain during setup, but the positive thing is that gives them more torque to hold and finer tuning capability. Use a tuning peg crank if you need. I will buy these for my violins eventually. What a great product! ... show more

  • good quality and getting the job done
These tuning pegs require skill and knowledge to install properly. Yes, they work as intended. No, you cannot take them apart to lubricate the internal mechanism. With that said, they solve the problem of standard violin, viola, or cello pegs sticking in the headstock which makes tuning the instrument a chore. With these modern pegs using a planetary design, you don't need fine tuners installed on the tailpiece. They are worth the effort to have these installed in your instrument. ... show more

  • Very good
Very good. Makes tuning much less tedious. You will need a sharp peg reamer to fit the pegs. Not difficult to install. Just take your time and be careful.

  • Wonderful advancement. Well made.
I installed these without reaming, but you have to measure to make sure. Smooth turning. A huge step forward for violin tuning. I've installed these on two violins, one low end and one high end. There are now 2 strads with these tuners, so if those soloists can make the leap, why can't I? I measured and got the right pegs, so no reaming was needed on either violin. I am comfortable working with these kinds of things and installed them myself, but you may need a luthier to do yours. I've ditched my fine tuner on the E. I like these much better than the other planetary violin pegs. I only wish they came in boxwood color. ... show more

  • No luthier needed
This is a great update to an instrument that hasn't seen much technological improvement in hundreds of years. As a guitar player, I frequently tune my instruments and found that when I started picking up violin, this seemingly simple task is ensconced in the elitism of classical music. You see people who take pride in the number of fine tuners on their tailpiece because of how hard something that should be simple and routine is. I digress. After a couple measurements with the calipers to ensure I was ordering the right size, it took a couple gently turns with a properly sized awl and the tuners dropped right in. All that remained was to mark where the peg ends protrude from the peg box and then cut those off and do a fine sand (up to 2000 grit) on the tips to give them a dull luster. If you are somewhat handy and think the traditional tuning mechanism of violins is dumb, buy these. They're great! And guess how many fine tuners I need? Zero. This elimination of mechanical components between the tailpiece and string allows the strings to resonate better which is why skilled violinists only use one on the high e. The reason they keep that one is because tuning that string without the fine tuner is dang near impossible. Great buy! ... show more

  • Solid performance, light weight, but tricky to install for my application
These are great tuners! I'm using them on a 3D printed Modular Fiddle, so it's a bit of a different application and I cannot attest to their performance in a wooden pegbox. For my plastic 3D printed pegbox. I find that they require a rather tight fit to hold consistently. It would be nice if the plastic ribs that dig into the pegbox were just a bit more aggressive, but that could adversely affect a wooden pegbox. I'll definitely purchase more for my fancier builds, but I will ream my plastic pegbox VERY carefully. ... show more

  • One of the best improvements!
I love these things. Overnight tuning is almost nil I suppose because they're not wood and don't expand and shrink. Left only "E" fine tuner removed all the others. They stay and are smooth with light and nice resistance.

  • Very disappointed. Perfection Planetary Violin Pegs weren't much better
I tried these and Planetary pegs, these slip and if you loosen them they jump a lot. Very disappointed. Perfection Planetary Violin Pegs weren't much better, but they screw in at least for better grip.
