  • Great for price, especially when compared to higher priced items BUT has drawbacks
I have been on (what seems like) an endless quest to find the "perfect" earbud. I have tried several types (over ear, in ear, ambient aware), and they have ALL had their drawbacks from my standpoint. For full disclosure, I WANT to be able to hear my surroundings and NOT have the plugged in feeling that earbuds typically provide. I had a previous pair of wireless earbuds that were over 3 times the price of these. They were great, but the drawback was when I had them in my ears, I was not aware at all of anything around me. While that is good for most people, I want the ability to be able to hear ambient noise. Plus, I had the constant "plugged in" feeling with the earbuds in my ear. I had a pair of "ambient aware" totally wireless headphones, and the battery life was atrocious. I have been hearing about the "pass-through" or "ambient mode" on earbuds, and had searched all over to see if I could get an example of how that sounds (with no luck). I had a pair of Tribit over-ear headphones, and they sounded great at a cheap price, but were heavy. So I came across these.... they seemed to check all the boxes that I was looking for, and were on sale for $30. So I pulled the trigger. First, the earbud tips that come in the box were horrible. They are very shallow, and definite ear wax collectors. But, remember my earbud quest? I was not short on tips, and used ones from my previous headphones. So no problem there anymore. The sound was very mid- heavy, but I am picky about sound and had purchased an excellent equalizer app on the Play Store (Eqfy), and adjusted it. Wow. So now these sound as good as the buds that I had that were over 3 times the price. Next, I cycled through the noise cancellation, ambient on and ambient off modes. Noise cancellation gives me a sensation of pressure in my ears and drowns out some sounds. I can still hear kids yelling, but not when they are just talking in random conversation. I do not hear the background hum of the fridge, the fan on the computer, etc. I imagine there are better options out there, but honestly, I will use this feature probably only when I cut grass. Next, with the ambient on mode, I hear everything with the earbuds in and music off. Weirdly, I do not feel the plugged in feeling of earbuds with them. It might be a false sensation from being able to hear the hum of the fridge or the fan on the computer. However, as music volume goes up, I lose the ambient noise. I did try these while running, and was able to hear cars approaching from behind and dogs barking. But, I did catch a lot of wind noise. Overall, I like it and it serves it's purpose. Just don't expect to be able to have your music on AND carry out a normal conversation. It does it's job, and increases your situational awareness. Lastly, the ambient off is just standard buds in your ears mode. However, there are certain drawbacks. There is not a volume option on the earbud itself. I knew this going in and didn't think it would be a big deal. However, as I start getting further in to runs, I tend to crank up the music more for additional motivation. I wear a Garmin and do still carry my phone with me in an armband. The way my Garmin is set up, I do not think there is an option for me to control my volume with the buttons without pausing the workout, and accessing the armband is a little tricky. Maybe I'll figure out a method, but it would be a little nice to have an option to increase or decrease volume on the headphone itself. The next gripe I have is there is not an on/off switch (or one that I have seen so far) on these earbuds. To turn off, you have to put in the charging case. I'm not a fan of that, as I do want battery drain to cycle through every now and then. So to solve that, I disconnect them from my phone and let them sit out of the case. I believe they auto-turn off after a certain amount of time. So all-in-all, GREAT earbuds with a few drawbacks. However, for the price, they are definitely a GREAT option, especially when combined with an equalizer on whatever device you are using. ... show more

  • Left and right buds don't play well together
The Bluetooth connection was solid on these earbuds, and the battery life was pretty standard. Unfortunately, that's about all I can say. They were out of sync with each other more often than not, so most everything I listened to (including phone and Zoom calls) had an echo and sometimes just sounded garbled, as the left earbud seemed to be much slower than the right. I would put them back in the case to reset, and sometimes that would help, but most times it wouldn't. No matter how low I adjusted the volume, I always ended up with really bad ringing in my ears after wearing them. These were my first pair of true wireless, so I thought maybe that's just how they are. However, I returned these and got a different brand, and they're exponentially better than the Tribits. No problems with echo and no painful ringing in my ears afterward. ... show more

  • Phenomenal design. Sound quality OK. Transparency mode is extremely good.
Unfortunately, my daily drivers for some time now have been the Bose Quietcomfort 35 ii's. This meant that the sound quality of the Flybuds was simply not good enough for me. I ordered some Samsung Galaxy Buds Pros on ebay for $160 and will be returning these. That is MY MISTAKE. Now onto these buds: The transparency mode is phenomenally good. It feels like you're not wearing them at all, yet you can listen to music and have a QUIET conversation at the same time! Really can't emphasize how good this mod is. If I ever need a pair of wireless earbuds for strenuous exercise or to wear while hang-gliding, then this will be that pair. Transparency mod is the #1 most important feature to me, because I NEED to be able to hear my surroundings when I'm walking/biking/running in public! I hate treadmills! The sound quality is really VERY GOOD for this price point. It's miles better than most cheap wired phones. The bass is fairly punchy if undefined. The highs are a bit muddled, and the instruments do not separate super well. That said, these are PERFECT for any sort of exercise, or listening to bass-heavy music like Trance, other EDM, and hip-hop. They really shine in the lows, and the mids are fairly good. NO sibalence. NO significant distortions! the touch controls are VERY well thought out. The designers and engineers definitely worked together on this and got outside feedback, because it "just works" as they say. There's a sexy woman's voice which tells you which NC mode you're in, and they cycle in the smart way. UNLIKE my $300 Bose headphones, these default to NO noise canceling and NO ambient mode when you turn them on! The quietcomfort 35 ii's default to HIGH ANC. IT FRIGGIN SUCKS I HATE IT SO MUCH. FIT: TRY EVERY SINGLE TIP IN BOTH EARS!!!! the very last ones I tried turned out to be the best fit, and with it, these guys stay put even when jumping rope, EVEN when hopping on one leg like I'm next to the pool trying to get water out of my ear. That's my review. If sound quality is important to you, then spend twice what these cost first, then we can talk. Otherwise, these are your bois right here. ... show more

  • Better than the echo buds, and most expensive headphones
I can't speak to the longevity of these, as I've only had them for a few weeks now, but I'm truly amazed by how good these are for cheap headphones. I've had air pods, jaybirds, and the Amazon buds and these are by far my favorite considering I don't have an iPhone. Connection is super easy and quick. Sound quality is great. The touch controls aren't too good but I really don't care that much about that anyways. Compared to the echo buds these are significantly better. Pair quicker, feel better (if you like more of an airpod feel than an in ear headphones). The carrying case is still pretty clunky but it's a usb c charger which is also really nice. ... show more
