Quickly repair the chip to prevent the crack from getting too long! I'm considering whether to repair or leave it alone, or replace my windshield? My windshield started out with a chip and a 1-foot crack, but in less than a week the crack had extended about 3 feet down the center from the right side. This tool allowed me to repair the chip and the 3 foot long crack. I cut the plastic sheet in half and since the crack wasn't very jagged the 1 foot long sheet covered the resin nicely. I put it under a UV light for 10 minutes and then cleaned it up and noticed that the cracks were still visible in some areas. So I redid the steps and used the rest of the resin, if someone carts the cracks on to let the resin in it may get into the cracks, but I also found that if you push on the end of the crack it will crack more. After everything was done I could barely see the crack unless the sun was shining right on it and you could see the crack. The cracks didn't widen any further so it was worth the $15 effort and cost as the internet says new windshields cost between $400 and $1000 depending on where you buy it from or if it's brand new or supplied by the automaker. What Safelite doesn't do, this kit does. Here's the review I left for Safelite (see “ ” below) Basically, just buy this kit and don't let them touch your windshield. “It was simple. I submitted a claim through my insurance and was thrilled when I found out the shattered part was covered. They put me in touch with Safelite for repairs and scheduling an appointment was easy. We waited a few days and the gentleman came at first light and started working quickly. He never made a house call or greeted us, he just started working. When the job was done, he left and we went to check out the results. The chip looked and felt exactly the same as it did before construction. We thought it was strange but knew it looked roughly the same from the outside, but the fact that it was still chiseled deeper worried us. After a few days the crack got bigger so I contacted Safelite again and was told by a kind man that it couldn't be repaired any further and that the entire windshield needed to be replaced. I thanked him for his time and told him I would contact my insurance company. Anyway, I wasn't too happy about that, so I ordered a $10 CAPEDIEM repair kit online. What a difference it made when I received the kit. The shavings are almost gone and it feels smooth to the touch, but you can still tell because the cracks do get a little big. I was saddened and disappointed that a cheap repair kit bought on Amazon did a better job than a “professional” repair. ... show more
