  • Worth Every Penny!
Edit: 12/2024. I paid $145 back in 2020. Just an fyi. This vise is still going strong after all this time. Still doing random handy man stuff with it. Still happy with my purchase. Original review is below: I was looking for a made in the USA high quality bench vise. A vise reminiscent of the one my father used 30 years ago. Like many of you, I discovered the price tag attached to a high quality American made bench vise dashed my hopes of obtaining one. This was going to be my first vise and i wanted one to last. During my research I found that Wilton maintained some exacting standards to their "Foreign Made" bench vises. So matching my needs to a vise, I decided on this Wilton WS6. First off, this thing is HEAVY. The FedEx driver did not carry it the last 6 ft to the front door and dropped it off halfway. Shipping weight with outer box was 49 lbs. Box says Manufactured in China to Wilton Specifications. On amazon, description says 25,000 casting, but on the Wilton website the WS6 is Listed at 30,000 PSI cast iron. The box and paperwork for the WS6 say it has a "lifetime" warranty", but i do not see myself needing it anytime soon. PROS: Heavy Duty, All the parts seem to fit together well, Very smooth when operating, Rigid with very little slop, Once locked downed It did not move while beating on it, Jaws line up perfectly, Holds well, Swivels well, 4 Mounting Holes vs 3, 2 Swivel Locks, Perfect for my needs. (General Purpose, Handyman) CONS: This thing was dirty, grease seemed to have been used to coat every surface. (to prevent rust maybe??) There were metal shavings and paint chips stuck to the grease. A couple spots on the machined edge of the u-channel screw cover were sharp, cut you like a knife sharp, it was not de-burred very well. I had to file those edges down. So be careful where you put your hand before you inspect the screw cover. OVERALL: Great value for the money. 5 stars. I would totally recommend this vise for those of you out there wanting quality, but sadly not able to afford an American made bench vise. After wiping it down, cleaning it up and applying some protective silicone grease, I stood back and admired this piece of equipment I purchased. The WS6 is definitely worth the money spent. I have only used it a couple times, and will update my review if anything changes. Now, only time will tell if it will last. ... show more

  • Very solid homeowner grade vise.
This vise is a good deal for this price point. Holds tight and doesn’t have slop/wiggle. I was pleasantly surprised because this vise is made in China. I replaced a china special vise that basically blew apart after applying a moderate about of pressure to it. This Wilton is better made and even though I have not put a significant amount of pressure on it yet, it is better made than the others I have seen in this price point. Should be great for repair and metal work on on the ranch. I would upgrade if I were a pro shop doing serious metal work- but that would be a huge price jump. Also I heard that the “lifetime warranty” is really only 10yrs- which is considered the lifetime of the vise. My piece of crud last vice lasted 8 yrs mounted in the elements- it was not a Wilton. ... show more

  • Very sturdy, pivots 360.
Very sturdy vice. I like that it pivots 360 on the base and is very strong. It is not made in the USA but seems to be a quality build. The pipe jaws work on small diameter pipe of 1/2", perfect for me to crimp my metal canoe paddles back to the plastic handles. The jaws open very wide, it's a great vice. ... show more

I run a repair shop full time and we haven't been able to kill these yet. Awesome vise for the price. Definitely recommend.

  • Decent for the price
Pretty sturdy/heavy duty and should do well for medium to semi-heavy tasks. I would buy another.

  • my advice? Buy this vise
This is not cheap junk, regardless of where it's made. This is a robust, heavy duty tool that will probably outlive me. It's the real deal.

  • chinese junk is not always junk but may be prejudice...
i own a Chinese lathe, a Chinese mill, Chinese calipers and micrometers... wonderful tools... run-out on my mill/drill spindle is .0002 a side... run out on my lathe spindle is .0001 or less barely moves a .0001 indicator ... i make dead nuts square parts.... i also own this Wilton vise i use it for most heavy stuff i do... i have wood, aluminum and i made lead jaws for it and friends come over to use it for rifle barrels and anything that needs held tight and non-marring.... i also hammer on the anvil to peen metal and move it on parts... i have clamped it so hard using a 'come along' that i bent the tightening bar but no damage to the vise... i bought it in 2008 and have used it for over 5 years.... that's my experience... edit its nearly 2016 I have used this vise nearly daily for all these years, including bending and holding parts for solder and heat treating... this is a good vise... I have one con don't unwind it all the way its difficult to get back in... I plan on putting a stop in it to prevent those times I open it too far... ... show more
