I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of this coffee, it is a nice medium roast. I have a 'grind and brew' coffee maker that grinds the beans at time of brew, so I found this pot of coffee to be quite fresh tasting! As described, you get 12 oz of organic coffee, which gives me good piece of mind to the quality. At time of review, this 12oz bag is approx $13, I think in-line with other organic choices on amazon. This Whole Foods Organic Whole Bean Early Bird Coffee is a medium roast smooth coffee. When I received this coffee the best buy date is 4 months out. There is no roast date on the bag which is a big no no to me. Ordinarily the best buy is 12 months from roast date, so I did not receive a very fresh bag, 8 months after roasting! That said, it's a decent grocery store whole bean coffee, compared to other grocery store coffee. I would say its drinkable but not that wow factor! This coffee is a great choice, especially if you're looking for something organic and reasonably priced. It has a nice medium roast with a rich flavor, and it's perfect for starting your day. The beans are easy to grind, and once brewed, the coffee has a delicious chocolatey and nutty taste. I've really enjoyed this roast and I would say that it is truly a medium roast. Not overly acidic or roasty and has a nice smoothness that is easy to drink. Smells amazing. My bag came sealed great and well within the best buy date. The price is on par for similar organ blends. I recommend.

Like most coffee that I've had from Whole Foods, this one is pretty good - it seems to be on the mark with the roast level; I'd say it's a solid medium roast. I grind my beans before using them in an espresso machine, and these beans seem a bit finicky in that the same grind fineness produces a different shot every time. This might be related to being roasted some time in the past - with several brands of coffee that I've bought on Amazon, I'm finding use-by dates of just a few months past when I bought them, which means they aren't very fresh.
