I didn’t order these for pens. I used the pieces to craft a couple cutting boards and a charcuterie board as gifts. My first time ever attempting to do that. Most of the blanks were pretty straight and with some sanding I was able to use all but one piece of the black walnut, which wasn’t straight at all…but no worries as I used it for sawdust for an inlay (not shown). I’m sure for a pen; it would have been fine. Overall, the pieces were nice quality and color. Once sanded and oiled, they really shined up and are quite pretty. ... show more

Good value for the amount you get but was not pleased with the inconsistent sizing. 3/4" x 3/4" is just a general dimension and no 2 pieces are the same. My plan was to glue these up for bottle stoppers and other things and still will, but it will cause me a lot more work and prep to get them to consistent dimensions. The purple heart was really pale in color and not the bright, vibrant color many people expect. This is an excellent deal if you are using single pieces for turning pens. ... show more

I like the assortment, but the Zebrawood I got was full of bug hole, and that was the one I was most interested in. Customer service was very nice and sent me some replacement. I would definitely buy again.
