    • Very difficult to shape
Started a new “hobby” of putting handles on knife blanks. I’ve used a lot of different woods and a bubbly suggested ebony. Don’t know if he was pulling one on me or not. This is beyond any shadow of a doubt the hardest wood I’ve encountered. My jig saw wouldn’t cut it, just scratched the surface. My drill press is a small one and when I tried to drill pin holes the bit got stuck in it. Did manage to get the holes drilled. I also have a small 1” belt sander and when I used 60 grit abrasive belts all it did was polish the wood, wouldn’t remove hardly any wood. Went online and discovered ebony is one of the most difficult woods to shape. Way beyond the capabilities of my tools ... show more
