Description

From the bestselling author of The Mountain Between Us comes the moving story of a man with a painful past, a little girl with a doubtful future, and a shared journey toward healing for both of their hearts. It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives. Before it's over, they'll both know there are painful reasons why crickets cry . . . and that miracles lurk around unexpected corners.Praise for When Crickets Cry:“If you read any book this year, this is the one.” —Coffee Time Romance“Charming characters and twists that keep the pages turning.” —Southern LivingA Southern Living Book of the Month selectionStand-alone contemporary Christian fiction (approx. 85,000 words)Also by Charles Martin: The Letter Keeper, The Mountain Between Us, Send Down the Rain, and Chasing Fireflies Read more

I seriously did not want to put this book down, but I had to because it was so emotional. I had to read it in little bits, pray, and digest all of it. The characters are so real that I had no problem keeping them straight, even though the story went from present to past quite frequently. It unfolded in a way that you could never be quite sure where it was going or how it would turn out and leaves enough unanswered questions that you would definitely read a follow-up! A very good book about an extremely talented and caring doctor and how he finally learned to hear. ... show more

  • Poignant Tale
Poignant, emotional, beautifully written story that will change the way you see your heart. I thought the musical speak would detract from the story but it did not, it added to the story. Full of beautiful imagery and lots of surprises, this is a wonderful story of love and loss, life and death, beginnings and endings. ... show more

  • Another Great Charles Martin Book
I've read so many of Charles Martin's book, almost all. When Crickets Cry is so touching, endearing and informative. The characters attach to your heart immediately. The twists and turns keep u from putting the book down. I loved this book, love this author. I'll miss the characters.❤️

  • I am obsessed with this book
It's been a long time since I've had a book affect me like this one. I finished it in a couple days, and then started it all over again from page 1. I just didn't want to let it go. Clearly this will be one of my top ten of all time. Not only are the characters compelling and the prose exceptionally beautiful, the story builds with little hints along the way of what is to come. I was totally gutted at the ending, in a really positive way. I will be thinking of this one for years to come. ... show more

I couldn't stop reading until hours after I should have been asleep. The ending was such a surprise! I felt like I was right beside the characters.

Best book I’ve read in a long time. Cried several times and ached for the little girl, the Aunt, The Doctor, the brother in law…termite. This book did an amazing job giving information and transmitting feelings from the mind to the heart. Thank you Mr. Martin for a well written read.
