Description

Technological advances in today's modern firearms, ammunition and optics have enhanced the potential for long range accuracy. However, precision mounting and alignment of your system's scope is critical to realizing the accuracy. A scope's reticle must be precisely aligned with the weapon to ensure holdover or turret adjustments for bullet drop produce true vertical compensation for point of impact. If the crosshairs are canted left or right both elevation and windage bullet impact error will occur. The Wheeler professional reticle leveling system is a precision tool and technique designed to allow a scope to be perfectly leveled on any firearm with ease. Cnc machining, factory adjusted calibration set screws, anodized aluminum construction and protective molded case put this instrument in a class of its own. The system is comprised of two machined aluminum level housings calibrated to their integrated levels. The barrel clamp level is attached to the guns barrel while the smaller reference level is placed on scope base, bottom half of a ring or other flat surface perpendicular to the vertical axis of the gun. The gun is then rotated until the reference level is aligned. The tuning adjustment knob on the barrel clamp level is then turned until its level is centered to match the reference level. At this point the barrel clamp level is calibrated to the guns axis. The scope can be installed loosely and the reference level placed on top of the scopes turret cap. The scope is rotated until the reference level is aligned with the barrel clamp level and then simply secured in place. The Wheeler pearls is the most effective instrument available for precision scope alignment. Features: - precision tool for scope reticle alignment factory calibrated reference level - maximize accuracy potential tunable barrel clamp level - CNC machined aluminum level housings protective storage case.

  • Getting the rifle secure and plumb.
Dead-On Method. Being a skeptic, I checked the "reference level" with my high-end machinists level, and it was perfectly accurate. Adjusting the barrel level to center bubble (correction screw) was very easy AFTER you determine the reference level of the receiver and secure the gun tightly. I did all the leveling at the scope with the Wheeler System to see if there was any error I could get with their method. The trick to this is DO NOT get in a hurry. It will take some time. A good rifle rest or stout vise is a must to keep the rifle itself from shifting after everything is plumb. Getting the rifle action vertical is probably the most time consuming thing in this entire process. Always lap the scope rings (without question) and try multiple reference points (receiver, scope rails) to establish that barrel reference-level setting. Criss-cross tighten the scope mount screws slowly as they can turn the scope slightly in the direction of the first tightened screw. Double check everything. Use a torque screwdriver and follow the ring-maker's inch-lb settings. Check mount screw torques after 20 rounds. As a final check, use a carpenter's level at a distance your scope will focus to as an absolute check. Turn it horiztal AND vertical and match the crosshairs to the edges of the carpenter's levels edges with the Wheeler Levels still level. You may need to put white cardboard behind the carpenter level to catch those edges of that distant level. You can use a Plumb Bob but that string is hard to see. Hit more of what you're shooting at. ... show more

  • Fantastic tool I highly recommend...
This works very well if as they say you follow instructions --and take your time...!! I would also suggest you use a decent rifle vise or another workable vise of some kind - very important.!.! I do at times use a Starrett 135a pocket level across the top of the ring/halves to check how true they are on the base. I already owned this level but I do feel you can easily get by without it. I've used this at least a dozen times with perfect results, you can't believe the difference in long range shooting when your scope is on straight and level... ... show more

  • It works but most people don't need it
If you feel you need to use a level with a scope (you don't) this is the best way to do it. The reason is most guns have no place to put a small level "after" the scope is mounted. And they will most likely bump or move the scope if they attempt to level the gun in a vise then remove the level so they can mount the scope. You need that barrel level so then you can move the gun around and not loose the level you first aquired using the small level on the receiver. This puts a lot of faith in that little level being perfect and the gun receiver being perfect with the barrel. It dose not take much for the little level to be off a little due to the level, the receiver, the scope cap etc. They all add up. Ie. Maybe the little level is 1 degree off clockwise and the the barrel level is off 1 degree counter clockwise. There is some slop in the bubble itself, hard to get it just right. So then you could be 2 degree off thinking you have it perfect. I can eyeball this using the scopes reticle with the back of the bolt on most guns and come as close or closer. No level needed. The bottom line is the cross hairs have to bisect the center of the barrel or bolt anyway on any gun. If you have a poorly aligned receiver then using these levels will result in some can't even though you did everything perfectly. Eyeballing the scope (takes some practice) can actually get you closer on most guns. In most cases this level set will get you close enough but I have not found it to be better than what I've done for years just eyeballing the scope. ... show more

  • Best scope mounting system I've used
Just mounted a scope on a Savage BMag .17 WSM with this system. I had used Wheeler's scope mounting kit for years, and had always struggled with their levels, though I always made them work in the end. With this system you can level the gun to the scope base or the mounts (be careful there - I use UTG's "Pro" mounts, which I really like, but the set I used this time had one mount slightly "out"). Once you have the gun leveled you can remove it from the gun vise to adjust eye relief on the scope before mounting or whatever and know that when you return it to level it is dead on. One reviewer said that he found that the padding on the barrel level "changed" over time, changing the level, so I left the barrel level on the gun for several days - it was dead on to the last. If you mount scopes yourself, this is a "must" purchase. Don't drive yourself silly using the cheaper systems. I do use a plumb bob for final scope alignment and in this case the plumb bob aligned perfectly with the level placed on the top scope adjusting cap, which doesn't always happen. ... show more

  • Should have purchased years ago!
I've spent many hours of the years trying6 to mount the PERFECT SCOPE! Tried every trick in the book, but just never seemed to be able to get everything 100% correct! I purchased many different scope leveling products but this will be my last. The scopes I thought were 99% to 100% were off about 1-2% on average! Which at 600 yrds certainly made it near impossible to zero a group! Always close but as the saying goes No Cigar! I have since been able to benchrest a 3 shot group & cover it with a dime at 600 yds! & dead on the X ring! I have been able to repeat this almost perfect group 3 separate times to the range. Only hoping my other scope changes will come close to this? This was & still is my most accurate combo of caliber, receviver, barrel, twist & scope that I own. Thanks Wheeler! ... show more

  • Very high quality scope mounting kit!
After watching a scope mounting video by Brad Brooks of Argali Outdoors where he used this kit, I wanted to get one for myself. Easy to use and seems very accurate (I verified by using a plumb bob and shining a flashlight through the objective end of the scope). It’s nice to use on the picatinny rail if you have one, set it up on the rail and get the rifle level, then put the barrel clamp level on and snugged down to match the rail level. Once you have that setup, mount the scopes your desired eye relief and set the free level on top of your elevation turret and match it up with the barrel clamp level. Very easy, verify using the plumb bob method by lining up your crosshairs with the vertical string (videos on YouTube are helpful). ... show more
