I love this tool!! Works exactly as it should, for me. I read the reviews, good and bad, and decided to give it a try myself. I am glad I did, the blades are good and sharp, drilling out a hole is quick and relatively little effort. You’re hand drilling a hole in a log so yeah it takes some effort. Works great! The tapered end of the eye is sharp. Not too sharp. Made from quality material and it comes with a high quality leather holster. My only complaint is you have to be world’s strongest man to get the eye off of a stick after pushing it through. The auger is easy. Blades are sharp

Arrived in a nice box, well packed , plus they sent me a survival guide in a PDF. shortly after directly to my email. Always nice to review and be prepared even if I had some outdoor survival military training at a young age. I ordered the 1 1/2 inch size. It feels solid, with a beautiful leather case. Good value for a tool I will make use of the next time I go outdoor and wood is available. It would also be handy at Christmas time to make outdoor decorations using raw wood pieces. Looking forward to trying that. Would recommend or give as a handy gift to the person who likes to work with their hands…and build rustic type furniture or emergency shelter. ... show more

I didn’t know about this tool (Settler’s Wrench A.K.A. Scotch Eye Auger) until recently. I saw different uses and some of the things people were making with these tools, so I bought one to check it out. This one by Wayland appears to be well made, solid, sharp, with a strong weld. I put many pictures to help you examine the tool before you buy it. I purchased the 1.5 inch and it is a monster. I wish the auger was a little longer though. A longer auger is useful to create a rocket stoves on a larger diameter piece of wood, if that is your intended use for it. The sheath is ok, it does the job and the tool fits very snug. I built a hammer, and the peg maker is not like you see in YouTube, not easy at all. I tested it out in my garage twice and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get the tool out of the peg. It was seized and I had to go to great lengths to get the piece of wood out of the steel (after I broke the piece of wood). I reached out to Wayland and the response I received was that the peg tool is used to go as deep as 3/4 inch into the peg. This seemed too shallow of a peg and cannot be used for things intended for hard use (stools, ladders , etc.) I won’t be making pegs with the tool in the field. I’ll just use it as a guideline for size and I’ll use my knife to carve the pegs instead. Time will tell on the quality of the tool. ... show more

I have not used it yet, but I use a lot of hand tools, and just from looking at ir, I know it will do the job well, seriously. This one and one half inch model should have enough strength. Why settle for one inch, when with a little more effort, you can create a larger, more useable opening in your Swedish rocket stove? ... show more

I purchased this after getting into bushcraft. This auger drill multi tool is wicked sharp and it cut through oak like butter. I used it to make a wooden mallet to drive some posts for a wattle fence around my shelter. Worth every cent. I will be buying the 1 inch as well. :)
