  • Plane truth, a quality piece! (s'cuse the pun)
My old Delta was beyond the needed fixes. This looked like what I needed and the price was right. First thing I tackled was an 1X12X8, and I wanted it 1/2 inch. Took it down 1/64th at a time, flipping it each pass. Got it to 17/32's and stopped there to allow for sanding. Cuts were clean, finish smooth. No Sniping, as I used support at each end. Did you guys hear that? Saw a lot of comments on getting snipe. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! I really like the depth gauges, as they are easier to read than the Delta was, especially the input gauge. Also like that fact that the output chute is twice as large as the Delta had. Bottom line, for the money this is a great buy and a well-made tool. So now I am buying a Wen hand belt sander. Will see if the quality extends to that. If so, I will be a Check Wen First buyer for future power tool needs. Month later, and I am so pleased with the quality of this tool I bought the Wen 10-inch band saw. Again, love the quality, workability and top-notch features on this one as well. Set-up took some time, and I had to fine-tune the blade guide adjustments. I think I have done more re-sawing than detailing, making some veneer knife handles. I also noted the space between the legs, so I built that into a cabinet for blades, tools and related stuff. Add two sanders (belt and oscillating) and I have found a new tool company until there is a reason not to use their products. My shop is a happier place now/ Thanks, WEN!! ... show more

  • Wanted this for a while
Style: Benchtop Pattern Name: Planer
Waited painfully to buy this. Read reviews after reviews for bench top planers and decided on buying this one. I was not disappointed after it arrived today and put it to the test. I used my test piece and made a slight adjustment, then tested again. After I was happy with the test piece I ran 2 of my epoxy projects thru. I am truly satisfied with how well it works and how much quicker this was to use than hours of sanding ... show more

  • Excellent benchtop planner at affordable price
Style: Benchtop Pattern Name: Planer
I’m a remodeling carpenter and I also build cabinetry, so I added this tool to my arsenal recently. Not only is this planer a little lighter weight than the Dewalt equivalent, but it works just as well if not better. The included dust shroud works very well and overall this is a very sturdy and powerful tool. It’s very easy to adjust the settings and the preset thickness depth gauge on the right side is fairly accurate. I especially like the depth gauge on the front which makes it easy to set the beginning cut depth ... show more

  • Great Planer
Style: Benchtop Pattern Name: Planer
Wen has really stepped up with this planer. The adjustments are easy and your lumber comes out super smooth. There is a ton of chips that will come out on the front as you feed the wood, even with a shop vac connected to the collection port...but that isn't a big deal and is expected. For the money, it can't be beat. ... show more

  • Great Product For The Money
I’m a first time planer buyer and outside of a few how-to videos on utube that is the extent of my experience. I’ve slowly been adding woodworking tools as my projects get more advanced. I opted to go with the Wen 13” planer because of the reviews and price. As I mentioned previously, I watched several utube videos and gained a better understanding of the common problem all planers have with snipe on the ends of the boards as they pass thru the planer. I purchased four 19.99 steel roller stands from Lowes and ensured they were level with the machines entry/exit feed trays. I had no issues with sniping and I was running stud length 2x4s and 2x6s through it all afternoon. Also, recommend before you start using the machine that you ensure the feed trays are level. I used a level and slid it thru the planer and brought the machine head down until it rested on the level and then adjusted the bolts under the feed tray to ensure everything was lined up before I passed my first board thru the machine. Take off the recommended min layer per pass and it makes quick work on the boards. My project looked better and my sanding times were significantly reduced. Replacement Blades for this unit are sold on Amazon as a prime item, which is another plus. The only real issue after making 40-50 passes thru the planer is the paint on both the entry and exit feed trays is already wearing thru to the metal. Im not sure what Wen meant by claiming the trays were granite unless they meant the color of the paint. However, it does not impact the operation of the machine, so it won’t impact my review. I’ll pull the trays and get them powder coated during the winter. ... show more

  • Lasted a whole 3 weeks.
Style: Benchtop Pattern Name: Planer
I'm so glad I got this off Amazon because it makes returning it so much easier. The planer just stopped working after about 3 weeks and not very much use. I admit I'm a novice so I'm sure I'm making mistakes but the planer should be able to handle variable misuse without this kind of reaction. The manual says to hook it up to a dust collection system if possible, which I don't have so I've been religiously cleaning it after each use (sure does make a mess!) Today after running possibly the 20th (max!) board through the wheels stopped turning, it made a funky grinding noise and flipped the breaker to my house power. I cleaned everything, thinking maybe something got caught or who knows, but this time when I flipped it on, it just flipped the power breaker again immediately. After opening it up, spinning the blade wheel (clean) and checking once more for any stuck items and flipping it on again there was squealing and a burning smell. I've returned it for the DW734 Dewalt. I'll review that one after I've had a chance to use it some, but the lesson learned is that trying to save a buck just isn't always worth it with tools. Something that I know perfectly well but can't seem to stop myself from doing anyway. ... show more

  • Looked at other reviews before buying this planer. Thought it would work for my needs. I was right.
Style: Benchtop Pattern Name: Planer
Ran a bunch of pallet wood through the planer after making certain all nails had been removed first. The planer functioned fine. My wood was already somewhat thin, so I quit when it finished at about 5/16” thickness, some boards were still about 3/8”. The grain on the oak boards was really nice compared to when rough, and most of my wood will be glued up into material for small box making, and some very nice crates. ... show more
