  • Cuts like butter, smooth and made my first experience a great one. I
Style: Corded Metal Shear
I used this to retro fit some parts I bought from Amazon and was amazed. This is my first experience with this type of tool, but not my first experience with Wen Tools. I have the Wen drill press, the Wen grinder and now the Wen swivel head variable speed sheers. I have nothing to compare it to since this is my first experience with electric Sheers but I can say I was extremely satisfied with the power and ease of use. It cut some heavy duty powder coated metal. I don’t know what gauge the metal was but it’s fairly thick and it cut it like butter!! I was truly skeptical because of the material I had to cut. But this made me look like a steel working champion!!! It cut butter smooth and laser straight. It made me confident that I could cut straight cuts, angles cuts and curved cuts. Even though I had to only cut straight I have enough confidence to try any cut now!! I didn’t use the swivel head yet but Wen makes high quality tools for the experienced and the novice alike. I have watched many YouTube videos about Wen products. They all say for medium to heavy use Wen makes a great tool, but for super heavy duty situations they say use another brand. Ok I’m not a professional steel worker nor a professional carpenter but I do work in construction and I’m very impressed for the price and quality heck I overly happy!! ... show more

  • Works great, reasonable price
Style: Corded Fiber Cement Shear
I needed to cut some narrow strip off 1/2" backer board, after damaging several pieces I bought this and was not only a time saver but in the end a money saver. Cuts really straight and clean if you don't force it. Let the guide lay flat and go slow will cut clean, otherwise the underside will look a little chewed up. ... show more

  • Works reasonably well for the price
Style: Corded Metal Shear
The WEN metal shear is priced comparable to most other brands. I used it to cut steel panels for a post frame building. It did the job well. I could recommend two product improvements that would get it close to 5 stars: 1) The cord exits the handle straight down and interferes with getting the cutting head at the correct angle. I realize the head can rotate, but having the cord exit rearward instead of downward would make tool positioning easier. 2) The shear is capable of running way faster than it needs to. A reduction gear to slow it down and get finer slow speed control would be an improvement. For smaller jobs this tool works well, but I wouldn’t recommend it for daily professional use. ... show more

  • Great shears!
Style: Corded Metal Shear
I purchased the WEN metal shears for a mini barn that I was building. I have not worked with sheet metal siding or roofing in the past so searched for a corded shear to make my flat cuts. These shears are great for flat sheet metal and some small ridges but use caution that they do not cut large ridges like pole barn siding. But these types of shears are not made for that type of cutting and ended up using an angle grinder for cuts that the metal shears could not do. I especially like the swivel option to be able to hold the shears at more comfortable angles and do a great job of creating a clean strait cut when following your lines. Overall the WEN metal shears are very easy to use and are great quality that will work nicely for my next project! ... show more

  • No dust and cuts clean
Style: Corded Fiber Cement Shear
I had to cut some of the cement fiber boards inside a confined space (shower) and was concerned about dust if I was to use circular saw. So, I bought these shears. Good investment. They cut clean (as much as it possible with cement board that likes to crush) and the dust is not airborne, rather it falls down as you cut. Alternative to the shears would be a jig saw - I learned it in the process, I used jig saw to cut big holes in the cement board. But keeping a straight line is more difficult with jig saw compared to these shears. Some people complained about broke blades. I, knocking on wood, had no such problem. But I noticed that fibers from the board get stuck between blades. I am thinking if enough of them get stuck there - they can easily break the blade. I am cleaning fibers from there after each cut. You you need to catch a thread and pull it as you turn on the shears. All in all - great investment for diyer like me. Very cheap and practical. I cut about 10 boards so far. If it does not break on me in the next two - I’d say it paid for itself. ... show more

  • Needs skill to operate
Style: Corded Metal Shear
A hefty and solid piece of machinery. The cutter is a 1/4" blade between two side blades. Unfortunately, the side blades are offset, one is 1/16" longer than the other so the cut curves easily to one side and not so easy to the other. On flat sheet metal it's not to hard to cut a straight line. After about 4' I was getting the hang of it. On corrugated sheet (the trapezial kind not the rolling kind) it jams and stutters as it's pushed forward. The side blades dig and catch into the sheet. ... show more

  • Well Made Sheet Metal Shear
Style: Corded Metal Shear
I was pleasantly surprised at the heft and quality of this metal shear for the price. Seems to be a well made heavy duty product. Used it to cut some long (10 +) sections of light gauge aluminum flashing for a shed roof. Cuts fast and is fairly smooth, although sometimes you have to give it a push to keep the cut going. Best if you cut on a hard surface. Free hand cutting a straight line is a bit of a challenge but if you take care and do not push the shear hard, makes a nice fine straight cut. Pushing it too fast through the metal seems to make the cutter head wander offline a bit. Otherwise, highly recommended if you have alot of metal cutting to do, beats cutting by hand by a mile. ... show more
