Dry cat food isn't very good so my picky kitty gets 90% wet and 10% dry because she likes it, I can mix it with goat milk which she's not a fan of by itself and because dry food is great to have in emergency situations because I don't have to refrigerate it. She's very picky when it comes to food but is happy to eat any flavor of Wellness Core dry food. I alternate to give her a variety. The individual kibbles are smaller than most dry cat food. She's particular about size, dry or wet food has to be smaller to please her. She's British Shorthair and their breed is naturally big and chunky but her food has to small in size or else she'll grumble and fuss directly at you. I haven't tried the treats yet but they're chicken flavored so I think she'll eat them. The expiration date was good, bag came sealed, food looks fresh and kitty has eaten some already so I'm pleased. ... show more

    • Quit feeding,cat got swelled chin from this.

After changing to a different food, my cats chin healed. While feeding this Core food no grain chicken,also a bag of the fish, in about 6 months, my cat's chin swelled &got purple, lost hair& had pores release crust from swelling. This condition is treated by vets with meds. I still have 2 4 lb bags, so I tried a cheap er brand from 'tractor supply' for urinary health, and in about 5 days the chin improved. So I tried feeding this again just the bag of Core brand fishAND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. So I stopped both the flavors of Core brand and fed the whole bag of urinary tract health and the cat's chin is 100% healed. No medication ever given. Now I'm feeding a no antibiotic food. So far, so good. Stay away from the CORE brand no grain is the one that I had trouble with. ... show more

Although the label says it is grain free and high protein, my diabetic cat's blood glucose gets very high after switching from wellness core wet food to this dry food. you pay for what you get I get.

    • My cats are totally out of control

I have two indoor only cats that I've been feeding Iams to for years - the Hairball type and the newest type, the Longhair in the light brown bag. It's increasingly harder to find the Iams Hairball in the orange bag, probably supply chain issues. I didn't care for the Longhair food since it crumbled to a powder rendering half the bag inedible. So I decided to switch. I researched high-calorie dry cat food and this Wellness Core Original appeared. My cats are middle-aged but very active and I think they weren't getting enough calories with the Iams. I'd never tried Wellness due to price, but it's really not priced that much higher than Iams. This isn't a hairball version but I found the hairball Iams didn't really help the hairballs much. My shorthair cat has more of them than my Maine Coon, but I keep her trimmed in a lion cut. It arrived and I left it on the counter, then I found my 2 cats there trying to chew the bag open. Love that the 5 lb. version has a ziploc bag. I'm in the transitioning phase now, slowly adding the Wellness to the Iams to avoid tummy upsets. They LOVE the Wellness. They are totally out of control with wanting food ALL the time. I don't free-feed, they don't know when to stop and then up it comes. So they get planned feeding times, every 3 hours. They are picking out the Wellness and leaving the Iams in the bowls. ... show more

Honestly the griping about this cat food is absurd. If you feed your cat the kibble equivalent of MCDONALD'S for their whole life, they probably won't adapt well to nutritious cat food like this. By all means keep trying to convert them to healthy food, if you manage to soon enough maybe the garbage they were raised with won't cost them renal failure. But when they turn their noses up, don't blame Wellness for the rejection, that's entirely your fault for setting their food bar that low in the first place. Our own cats absolutely love this food. They were raised on the chicken flavor and I added this kibble for variety in their food puzzles. Our cats love this food so much that when their puzzles with this flavor run empty our boy Odin follows me around the house crying until I refill them. I have nothing but praise for Wellness and their cat food products. We feed our boys Wellness wet and dry food every day and they get the Kittles cat treats too. Every time we take them to the vet the staff are floored at how incredibly healthy our cats are. Their weight and muscle tone is perfect for indoor cats, they have perfect color and energy, perfect vitals (even as seniors), and their coats are the most ridiculous luxurious cat fur on Earth. Our cats are fluffier and softer than chinchillas, and it's all thanks to Wellness! Really sucks for the kitties stuck on Meow Mix, when they rub their greasy, lifeless, rough fur on my leg for affection I can tell they're on a real garbage diet. Our feline is a diminutive 3.5lb creature with a reputation for being quirky & fussy. Fussy? Yep: how about a feline that refuses a lightly grilled tuna steak chopped into tiny pieces? This cat chow has her totally foiled: I barely had the bag emptied into the storage tin before she jumped on it, wolfing down large quantities at one sitting. As she is very small and underweight (came like that from the shelter), I decided a kitten formula would be best for her: the small pieces suit her tiny mouth and the extra nutritional value of the kitten formula will hopefully serve to beef her up a bit. ... show more
