Directions: It's better boil with soda. Recently I have seen a lot of customer feedback about red water problems. I went to do a tannin removal experiment, add soda and boil, boil for 15 minutes. Soak in hot water until the water is cool. Add new water and continue to boil, cycle 3-5 times. My experiment was repeated four times. Then continue to soak in water, change the water once a day, and remove tannins need for 4 days.

  • Always my favorite!
Size: Mopani driftwood (7-11 inch pack of 3)
The media could not be loaded. I will consistently buy driftwood from this seller. They send unique pieces that you could find for a fortune at your local fish store (sorry, guys) and they look beautiful every time. I usually boil the tannins out for several hours before placing, and place them together like legos! You get great quality for the price, they function well, and sometimes the size is even better than expected. Only one had a safety issue for my betta, but I gave it to a friend for their reptile as it was a beautiful piece. Thank you sellers! ... show more

  • Beautiful
Size: Mopani driftwood (14-18 inch pack of 2)
I love the wood in my aquarium. It was easy to prepare. I boiled it in water for about 15 minutes and turned the stove off. I let it soak until I had time to drain the water and do it again. I did this about 4 times in 3 days. I never let the wood dry out. My water the last time I boiled it was still pretty dark with tannins but, it hasn’t turned my tank water colors and my aquarium is pretty warm at 82 degrees. The pictures I posted the water is a little cloudy but that is because I had just done a water change and it hadn’t settled yet. The wood looks prettier in the tank wet than when it arrives dry. I have 2 medium sized pieces and 2 large pieces in my aquarium. ... show more

  • Happy with my purchase
Size: Mopani driftwood (10-14 inch pack of 2)
Pros.... Solid, heavy, decent size. Cons.... I was expecting a little longer parts. Summary.. Didn't release crazy amount of tannins. Placed in the fish bucket.Added burning hot water and let it sit.Did the same thing 5 times every 20 minutes. The last time I let it sit for some hours. I let it dry then I place it in my aquarium. I do have carbon and purigen in my filter so maybe that help.I should have bought 3 pieces.Overall I highly recommend this. ... show more

  • Make sure you process it properly for clear water
Size: Mopani driftwood (5-8 inch pack of 5)
Like everyone says, the tannins are of the charts. You obviously have to process it before you put it in your tank if you wanted clear water but it only takes like a week. 1. You have to rinse the wood 2. Boil it for 15 minutes. (The pot might get discolored but it's nothing that can't be scrubed off. You won't need to clean the pot till after you finish the boiling rounds but I'm giving you guys a heads up) 3. Drain 4. Boil 3-4 more times. 5. Set to boil but put half a cup of baking soda and quarter cup of salt. It will bubble/foam so just mix it from time to time. Rinse 6. Boil with regular water 1-2 more times to get rid of the salt/baking soda. Rinse. 7. Find a bucket, fill it with hot water from the tap( you don't need to boil anymore)and let the wood sit in it for about 8 hours with a towel over it. 8. I switched the water after I came home from work and before I left for work. So, twice a day. 9. You will see the water lighten up to a tea shade. After 2-4 days. 10. Rinse and put in your tank. 11. No more tannins. 12. Your tank will probably not be as hot as the water the wood was submerged in and heat makes tannins leak like crazy. So don't be too scared to put it in even if the water is tea colored. PS. If your water does go brown, which it shouldn't, it's nothing a bit of activated carbon or purigen can't fix. Don't be scared of the wood, I think it can sense fear. This is a bit of an aggressive approach and it's time consuming but if you want it processed quickly and effectively, this is one way to do it. Over took 4-5 days and my tank looks good. And it's not leaking tannins. I have a few photos that show what it looks like in different lighting settings. ... show more

  • Great, if you like brown water. 👎 (UPDATED)
Size: Mopani driftwood (7-11 inch pack of 3)
See UPDATEs below. See photo. I boiled the 3 pieces for an hour as instructed, then put them in my tanks. The water turned VERY brown, so I took them out and did a partial water change (still slightly brown; I'll need to do another pwc). Then I boiled the wood again for another 3 hours, changing the water every hour... It turned dark brown every time. After the three 1 hour boils, I put one of the pieces back into my small tank. As you can see in the photo, the small tank on the right is significantly more brown than the tank on the left. I can't use this driftwood. It's awful. My wife wants me to get a refund, but I hate sending stuff back. I might just pitch them. What a waste. UPDATE: The company saw my review and offered a full refund. They explained that because it is a natural product, there can be a lot of variation. Some pieces have more tannins that others. I was unlucky. UPDATE #2: I pulled these pieces out of the garbage bin and decided to see if I could use them somehow... I took a wire brush and removed as much of the loose black stuff as I could. Then I put them through an ultrasonic cleaner with diluted muriatic acid. After rinsing them off well, they seem to be doing okay in my tank. The takeaway here is that boiling is not enough. They need to be wire brushed and acid washed, preferably with an ultrasonic machine. 🤷♂️ Knowing that, I would personally buy again from this vendor.
