  • Very good product.
Capacity: 22TB Style: Desktop
This hard drive holds all my music, movies and TV shows with ample room to add much more. Works flawlessly. Small and unobtrusive. I am very pleased with it.

  • Great external HD
Capacity: 12TB Style: Desktop
The unit connected to my MAC without difficulty. You have to reformat the hard drive but that was very easy to do. Although much slower than a SSD it still works flawlessly and cost a heck of a lot less.

  • More storage than I'll ever need!
Capacity: 6TB Style: Desktop
I have multiple storage devices, and use this to back up pictures and personal files on my Windows rig. It has been functioning perfectly and saved me internal disk space for other needs. Great choice for home storage and back up needs.

  • Great Backup
Capacity: 8TB Style: Desktop
I use this to back up my music, pictures, and videos after my internal hard drive gets too full. The only issue I have had with it is when I first open a file, it takes a second to open and stops responding for a moment. Tedious, but not a game-stopper. All in all, worth the money.

  • Outstanding Storage Solution!
Capacity: 16TB Style: Desktop
I recently purchased the WD 16TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations. This external hard drive is the perfect storage solution for anyone in need of reliable and spacious storage space. First and foremost, the setup was a breeze. As advertised, it truly is a plug-and-play device. I simply connected it to my computer using the USB 3.0 cable provided, and within minutes, I was ready to start transferring my files. No need for complicated installations or software downloads – just pure simplicity. The massive 16TB of storage is a dream come true for someone like me who deals with large files, including high-resolution videos and extensive photo libraries. I no longer have to worry about running out of space on my computer or other external drives. Plus, the USB 3.0 connectivity ensures lightning-fast data transfer speeds, which is a huge time-saver when moving large files. The design of the Elements Desktop External Hard Drive is sleek and minimalist, making it a great addition to my workspace. Its compact size doesn't take up much desk space, and it runs quietly without generating excessive heat. What I appreciate most about this product is its reliability. I've been using it for several months now, and it hasn't let me down once. My data is safe and sound, thanks to WD's reputation for quality and durability. It's comforting to know that my important documents and memories are securely stored on this drive. In conclusion, if you're in the market for a high-capacity external hard drive that's easy to set up and incredibly reliable, the WD 16TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive is the perfect choice. It has simplified my digital life and given me peace of mind knowing that my data is in safe hands. I can't recommend it enough! ... show more

  • Works well, beware NTFS limits
Capacity: 20TB Style: Desktop
I first formatted the drive with a default block size (64kb). You cannot format the disk in 1 20TB partition with that block size. I reformatted it with a larger block size and was able to create a full 20tb partition. Note that it takes a while to write 20TB and remember you also need a backup (this drive is my NAS backup) ... show more

  • Excellent storage capacity, fast data transfer
Capacity: 20TB Style: Desktop
I have been using the hard drive since receiving it a week ago. It's certainly value for money. Excellent storage capacity for sure (20TB, which should last me for years to come), compared to my last WD Elements hard drive of just a few TB. :) And most importantly, data transfer has been consistently fast, with write speeds ranging from 200+ to 300+ MB/s. For example, I could write a 20GB file to it in 1-2 minutes. Overall, I'm very happy with the drive. ... show more

  • Which to buy, this drive or Seagate???
Capacity: 8TB Style: Desktop
TLDR; This is a fantastic drive get it! This is my opinion, based on my experiences, Your Actual Mileage May Vary. I'm a computer professional, I have done both hardware and software design. I have bought and used many disk drives over the years. So I feel that I am highly qualified to speak on this topic. The disk drive debates tend to resemble religious wars. Lots of people with adamant opinions, but very few with facts. Or understanding of statistics. Over many years, I have purchased a roughly equal number of disk drives from both Western Digital and Seagate. Most of the drives were 4TB or less. And I have not seen major differences between the two brands for the smaller drives. About 3 years ago I purchased 3 of the Seagate 8TB drives. This is so that I can make 3 separate backups of all important data. A practice that I strongly urge every business to do (and if you keep the drives disconnected except when making backups, it will protect you from the viruses that encrypt all of your files). Frankly I have not been too happy with the Seagate 8TB drives. All manufactures claim amazing speeds for their drives, but rarely do actual systems come even close to the claimed speeds. There are a lot of factors that figure into the realizable speed, so that is why these companies can get away with what is basically False Advertising. It has been my experience that the Seagate 8TB drives are slow and noisy. One of the 3 drives is now starting to fail after 3 years of very light use. But for me the bigger issue is that they are slow, the best I see is about 40MegaBytesPerSecond of sustained Write speed and not much faster for reads. (don't confuse Bytes with Bits, Mbps = Bits, MBps should indicate Bytes, but sometimes doesn't, rule of thumb divide Bits Per Second by 10 to get Bytes Per Second). The first thing I noticed about this Western Digital 8TB drive is how quiet it is. In fact it was so quiet that I had to double check to make sure that it had power! After years of listening to the Seagate drives rumbling along it is a really nice treat to have a drive that is essentially silent. Even under full read/write load you can barely hear it. I have just finished subjecting this drive to 3 days of continuous read/write testing and I saw a sustained 100 MegaBytesPerSeconds though put. The lowest it got was about 80MBps after about 30 hours of continuous read/writes on a fairly hot day. Summary: I have 3 Segate 8TB drives (same exact price as this one). They are slow, they are noisy, and after 3 years of very light use one of them is failing. I have subjected this Western Digital drive to 3 days of hard testing. It is more than twice as fast as the Seagate drives and it is nearly silent. I cannot say what the long term reliability will be like, but past experience with 4TB drives and smaller indicates that the reliability should be good. ... show more
