Normally I buy hard drives from everywhere to shuck them and place them into a Raid configuration but this drive runs so well that I haven't even attempted to enter the shell. Been using it as a backup and so far it doesn't disappoint at all. Throughput is good going through USB 3.2 and before I began using it I torture tested it for 2 days with HD Sentinel and it pass all the tests with flying colors. well you surely get what you pay for. i could have got a 32TB drive for less money but i bought a 16TB drive from that cheaper brand not 4 months ago and it is already showing signs of failure. I won't list the brand but i will say the name begins with the letter A. that is all i'm going to say about it. they are known to have cheap drives. i have a 12TB drive from them and that one too is already showing signs of failure. i've had that drive for no more than 5 months. i'm going to wipe the drives and send those back to get an RMA. anyway, i have a 6TB WD 2.5" external drive and the thing runs perfect. never one issue with it. had it for over a year now. I also have a 8TB WD External had that thing for 2 years and neveer one issue with it either. this 20TB drive should last a while. i get 234MB/s read and write throughput. I decided to buy new storage, because I am running low, and I thought, that 6TB WD Elements drive I ordered years ago is still rocking. I am so used to failures from old school hard drives. So, I thought I would give everyone an update on a very old purchase 3 years and running. The drive is a 100% backup drive, so rarely used, but it is on 24x7. I do think it is critical to have a good UPS for your hard drives. Dirty power is a huge problem for these. ... show more

It's been a good drive, can't complain although I wish it had lasted a tad longer but CrystalDisk is showing a caution so I bought a new one. Sticking with Western Digital since I have have better luck with them than with Samsung.

First off, Western Digital's Customer Support was fantastic. They helped this non-technical guy set this up for my iOS operating system very quickly. I used their chat function and it was excellent. They warned that they were not sure this would work well with my iPad b/c the iPad doesn't have the power to drive it. Hence I had already bought a docking station to fix that. It works perfectly with the iPad Pro 12.9. Of course it's new, so I can't say anything about its longevity. It even allows for creation of folders for sorting!
