First,I am 82 years old and have had many styling tools over the years. If I had found this one sooner, it would have been the only one needed. This not only straightens hair but also curls I, if you want to curl it.. It is what is called pencil thin. Since it is, you can get close to your scalp without a burn. This can be locked, so it only takes up a little space. There are several heat settings. This comes with a very nice drawstring bag and a glove. I bought this to style a synthetic wig for a cosplay, I was looking for something with adjustable temperatures and thinner plates. As someone who used straighteners regularly as a teen, this felt SO much more convenient - heated up quickly, auto shut-off was helpful, came with a heat glove, really got close to the roots and made nice curls thanks to the thin plates. The lowest temperature still does a great job without as much risk of burning. I used this for about 3 hours at a time for two days, so I can't speak to it's lifespan. For the price though I think it's 100% worth it, I highly recommend using it for synthetic cosplay wigs as well on the lowest setting. It comes with a bag and locks itself closed for easy storage too, it's not too bulky so it's easy to store with my other craft stuff. After my second baby my hair is growing in extra coarse and it’s still way short compared to the rest of my hair so I’m always afraid to burn my scalp with a regular sized straightener. That, and the little hairs constantly pop up and just cannot be tamed. My hair is 2c curl that is normally pretty coarse anyway and requires high heat. I liked the accessories that came with the flat iron; unfortunately, I returned it. As several other reviewers noted, the on/off button is not located in an ideal place. It’s easy to get turned off by your finger when gripping the handle to curl/straighten your hair. Very much a dealbreaker.
