  • it works very well despite seeming to be a very basic model
This device does exactly what I needed it to do. I was able to share my phones internet using PdaNet to all of my electronic devices successfully. Transfer speeds are stable and fast. The only reason why I gave it four out of five stars instead of five out of five is that the interface for configuring it seems very childlike and basic. Despite the aesthetics, it definitely gets the job done. The only major gripe I have is that there's only one LED indicator on the front of it. A simple solid blue light when it's working, no light when there's no power (clearly), and it flashes intermittently if there's an error that requires your attention. When it's flashing you will need to connect to the web interface and then click through all of the app like icons to find out what the issue is. All in all, I would recommend this to anyone technologically inclined or otherwise not, and I will be utilizing it for the foreseeable future until I upgrade to a Wi-Fi 6 router (this router is Wi-Fi 5, but supports all of the standards up to AC). ... show more

  • Easy Setup and Good Wi-Fi
Setup was easy and fast. I plugged an ethernet cable in to the a Lan port, checked the ip address of my pc using ipconfig 192.168.20.100, opened a web browser and went to 192.168.20.1. After completing the setup steps and I only needed to change the base ip to one I used on my old router 192.168.0.1. One of the setup steps is to enter a Wi-Fi password. I used my old password and everything started working. ... show more

  • I got this to use as a repeater and it's not really working
I got this to use as a repeater. I wanted to extend the range of my home wifi. Repeaters are interesting. They are actually a separate network that you connect to if you are out of range of the first. There isn't really a mechanism as far as I know for connecting to it automatically unless you have the ability to set that up on your devices that you are connecting with. I ran the setup and it looked like it was working at first but I was just still in range of my old network. I found I had trouble connecting with either a wired or wireless connection using the router, even if the router was wired into the wall. I've since unplugged it until I have more time to try again. The instructions were not too hard to follow but they were a little challenging and you have to follow a link to a pdf. Not all instructions for all of its functions have physical instructions included. Not a deal breaker but not ideal either. The instructions overall are pretty through but there were some options that I didn't really have a good idea how to answer so I'm assuming that was where my configuration went south. I'll try again soon and update if I get it working, but so far my experience has been frustrating for this - admittedly non standard - use case. I have not tried to use it as a wireless router, but I also didn't need it for that purpose. ... show more

  • Guest network is not supported in Access Point mode
Model: WL-WN530HG4 B (AC1200 WiFi5 Router) Guest network is only supported for Router Mode. You configure it under Advanced > Guest network. Setup was easy in macOS 10.15 Catalina. Just plug the device in, connect to the "WAVLINK-X_XXXX" WiFi network and a configuration wizard opens (as captive portal popup). I set my AirPort Time Capsule to be Wireless=Off and reused the old network name and password when setting up the AC1200. All my devices connected to the WAVLINK WiFi as if it was the old WiFi. Reconfiguring the access point is trickier. The easiest way is to unplug the it from the network. It will change its IP to the default and you can access the admin page as documented in the Quick Start Guide (and on the underside of the device). A way access the AP on the current network is by finding its IP with a LanScan utility. The AP appears as "Winstars Technology Ltd" in the Vendor column. Tip — splay the antennas out 45° for the best reception. The "manual" on their website is just the Quick Start Guide dated August 2021. At this time, the router comes with the most recent firmware version: M30HG4B_V240806. ... show more

  • WAVLINK WiFi Router AC1200 Dual Band 2.4GHz & 5GHz Internet Router
This router works perfectly well even thru walls other routers dared not tread (being the opposite side of my fridge). Was very easy to set up to my fiber modem, and was running in about 5 minutes after installing it. The GUI is very easy to understand, and get any special settings you might want set, or manual addresses. The price point is spot on imho. You can easily set this up as an AP or Repeater mode. ... show more

  • Mediocre
Pros: 1. This is dirt cheap. If you want something cheap and cheerful that works, this is it. 2. For the price it does a reasonable job with sufficient speeds, internet, range, etc. 3. I found it easy to set up but not everyone will. Cons: 1. I'm a techie and I struggled with firmware updates and the lack of config options. 2. Where's the WiFi 6? Huge disappointment. 3. Although it does a reasonable job, it could be better... I'm sure it has its uses in some people's environments. ... show more

  • I understood that this was a basic router, but WAVLINK really?
I am a BIG WAVLINK fan. Their products are scattered through my home and office, and, well, this is the first time that I can really say that I'm pretty disappointed. Not that the router doesn't "work" because, eventually I got it working, but the user interface is sooooo buggy that I reached max levels of frustration trying to get it configured. Documentation is lacking which also doesn't help matters. It took me a number of times, including factory resetting it, to get the settings to apply correctly. And I've been in IT for 30+ years and do this regularly, so I'm an informed user, and I still struggled. :( Once the configuration was applied successfully, it has worked and seems to be pretty solid. But I have to say, overall I am really disappointed. ... show more
