  • Comfortable out of the box
Size: 12 Wide Color: Bracken Lime
I've been wearing thin soled minimalist shoes for a long time. All of the thicker soled hiking minimalist options on the cheaper end were uncomfortable (whitin and others) - I've owned about 7 or so pairs of vivos over the years and most of them were comfortable. Just so expensive! So I've been buying cheapo $20 to $40 range minimalist shoes for about 2 years - but, of course, they wear out in 6 months or less. I am very pleased these feel great. They feel very flexible, still, though the soles are thick. 100% protected instead of feeling every grain of sand (like I'm used to, and don't get me wrong, I like) but you do still get feedback. I just realized how limited you can be in rough terrain, when 32.5% of pebbles or rocks hurt your feet, on any outdoor trail, so I needed a new pair and they had to be Vivos. The ankle support you need in a hiking shoe still feels flexible, with these. Which is important; a tight ankle can ruin the minimalist experience and feel so I usually avoid them. The wool top feels great, in other words. These were a steal at $158 at discount. If I could have afforded the all black ones I would have went with them, they look better to me, but the style and color of these are nice, too; the leather feels and looks very high quality. I'm sure they will only get more comfortable. ... show more

  • The perfect shoe...almost.
Size: 11 Wide Color: Bracken Lime
When I saw a young adult wearing these at my work I stopped him and interviewed him. These appeared to be the holygrail of foot wear! I found these on Amazon at a discounted price I could stomach and pulled the trigger. Now for a little backstory. I have been wearing Altras after work and Lems at work so my feet are used to being comfy and toes spread out. Imagine my grief when I received these beautiful shoes and put them on and felt the pain of my foot bones grinding together. The foot box is too narrow, I felt these were deceptively sold as 11 wide and on the tongue of the shoe it clearly has 11 m printed in there. So unless they sent me the wrong shoes these are a major dissappointment! I am sending them back which is very painful because I was ready to spend the most I have ever spent on shoes for these but they just aren't wide enough for my feet. From what research i could find they don't offer these shoes in various widths just the one they advertise as wide. ... show more

  • Great shoe that got rid of a lot of my knee issues.
Size: 7 Wide Color: Bracken Lime
My buddy recommended me to try some barefoot shoes for getting rid of knee pain. I gave these a go and in a couple of months my knee joint pains are non-existent. The grip on these for scrambling hikes are excellent. If you do try barefoot shoes, make sure to ease into them and don't go all out on your first outing. Your feet need to build up to using these and once they do its great! I think for heavier backpacking trips I'm still going to use wide footbox hiking boots, but for my weekly hikes these are awesome! I only wish that Vivobarefoot had a re-soling plan available in the U.S. and not just in the UK because I would totally get these resoled again once the treads wear out. ... show more

  • If you like walking barefoot, and want a rugged hiking boot
Size: 10 Wide Color: Bracken Lime
These are the boots I've been dreaming of. Between knee, lower back, and foot issues, I've learned that I do best with a zero rise heel, and for years have worn various shoes that are zero or slightly negative heel rise. Except for hiking boots. (Trail runners were my go to, but some trails demand more shoe.) They always seem to have fairly tall heels. These are truly incredible. The sole has thick lugs, that grip very well. The back of the boot is mainly a heavy elastic, wool blend that makes them a bit harder to put on, but they really stay on, without needing to tighten the laces down into you instep. The tow box is huge (by most shoe standards—if you're a Birkenstock wearer, you'll be used to it). So, the end result is your foot feels fairly unconfined by the boots, but they don't wiggle at all—the footing is VERY secure. There is fairly complete flex to the sole, front to back and side to side. So, you feel like you are walking in a double soled all leather moccasin—almost like barefoot, but with a slight sense of separation form the ground. You are aware of every slight change in grade. The sole is thick enough to protect you feet bottoms from sharp rocks, but you will be aware of what the surface you are walking on is like. For the first time in years, I can walk most trails without really looking where I put my feet—which allows me to enjoy the trail views that much more. However, if you are on more technical trails, that might involve edging, the flexibility of the soles would be an issue. I have since bought several pairs of Vivobarefoot shoes and boots. They are made very well, and the materials seem top notch. I feel like this boot is a bit of a specialized shoe, so it's hard to make a blanket recommendation on, but if you know you like zero rise heels, I'd give them my highest recommendation. ... show more

  • I like the concept
Size: 11 Wide Color: Bracken Lime
The concept of bringing together a shoe and a sock is looking very promising. Let’s wait for the winter to check. Those shoes are no way wide. My suggestion is to pick one size up, this makes shoes a bit longer than usual, but wide enough.

  • Just about perfect
Size: 12.5 Wide Color: Bracken Lime
My most comfortable minimalist shoe by far. No Little Rock or stick will bother you with the treads on these things, it also allows you to heal strike because the tread overlaps your heal a bit so you can walk very quickly on hikes if you so choose. So comfortable that you may even lose some of the benefit from going minimalist so I don’t wear these every day. They are perfect for hiking and walking quickly though. ... show more

  • Most comfortable hiking shoe I own.
Size: 11 Wide Color: Bracken Lime
This is a well-made shoe that is amazingly comfortable. However, it could be more expensive if you do a great deal of hiking or trail running; it would be a good investment. It's built as a hiking shoe but is light enough and flexible enough for trail running.
