I don't usually write reviews, but when I'm excited by a product, I'm happy to do that! As a supplement fanatic, which can waste HOURS in the aisles of different supplements stores, I was very excited to find about Vitagene. I already gave a try to other companies like 23andme and wanted to check if I can get better insights into my health. In other products, I got very general assumptions and those were good but not good enough for me, I needed more guidance and in-depth recommendation on how to actually use the data that's based on my DNA. To my surprise, Vitagene provides a handful of data points and recommendation that you can actually use to reach your goals. Here are some of my takeaways: 1. The first experience - I got this box in 1-day with free delivery fees (thanks, Amazon Prime!). In oppose to other services, they ask you to swab inside your cheeks - I find it way easier and simpler than spitting tons of saliva to a vial. Before sending back the DNA samples, I activated my account and once completed, you send the DNA samples back (for free) to their lab. 2. Supplements - this is a big one. Based on my DNA and the questionnaire they tailored different recommended supplements, which makes it very unique and exciting for me since I never had any supplements personalized specifically for me. It's like getting the VIP treatment. 3. Dietary recommendation - As a vegan, I searched the internet for DAYS to find a good dietary plan, especially when I do intense workouts. What a great surprise to see many menu options based on my DNA and lifestyle - that's incredible. Only for these menu recommendations, I would pay for a nutritionist double than what I paid for the Vitagene product. 4. Skin type recommendation - that's like a bonus for me. Instead of going to a skin doctor or someone at a cosmetic store to recommend me about products that fit my skin type, I get an accurate overview of my skin type, potential, and others. Now I can do my market research for creams and other products while being more knowledgeable. 5. Ancestry report - it's similar to other services, in my honest opinion, I already know where my ancestors came from, so that part was less important for me. I was more excited about the health benefits that you can get using this service rather than anything else. If you care about your health and want to personalize your supplements consumption and dietary routine based on your DNA - this is the only service in the market that provides high-quality reports AND solutions all in one. Great idea and execution! Will continue with my supplement subscription as I find it more cost-effective with better quality than what I used to have before Vitagene. ... show more

I originally ordered this test in an attempt to help troubleshoot my disease processes & their correlation to my weight; physical & mental health issues with a better understanding of my genetic makeup. What I received was an easy to conduct test with a user friendly site. (👍) what I wasn’t expecting was the fact that despite the advertising for a genetic health report - it was just a COVID-19 test.... (👎🏻). After completing the survey & registration of my test - it was thrown out as not valid because the registration number on the two vials provided were “Not Valid”... they were not tampered with, they were clearly labeled. This is a fraudulent scam in my opinion... there is no course of action I can take nor means by which I can contact them for assistance. $89.00 down the drain... Highly recommend not purchasing this product. False advertising & no means by which to contact them... refund not an option. 👎🏻👎🏻 ... show more

I'm very impressed with this product and its ease of use. Other members of my family had gotten DNA tests completed for ancestry, but none of them included a health component! That's one of the reasons this DNA test was more exciting to me than most others. The product arrived quickly (gotta love Amazon Prime) and I was able to turn it around in just a matter of days. One tip - make sure you swab for DNA when you wake up and before you brush your teeth or drink any water. The instructions recommend this and I forgot about it the first morning so I waited another day. The packaging is simple and elegant, with all of the elements gently wrapped in tissue paper. You take the swabs and roll them around the insides of your cheeks and break the tips off into the small vials. They require two samples just to be safe. The best part about the whole process was that the packaging included a pre-made return label, so no hassle there! Overall great experience and I can't wait to see what my ancestry is, as well as my health profile! EDIT: I got my results back (pretty quickly) and am so excited! My ancestry came back more or less as expected, but I did have some interesting parts of the world included like Central Asia and West Middle East. The biggest differentiator of this test is the health component. I was pleased to find how comprehensive it was and it even revealed my slow caffeine metabolism. This explains why I've always had higher sensitivity to caffeine and I had no idea why until I got these results. I'm likely going to try some of their other products (like Smart Supplements) that pair with my personal DNA test results and see if that improves certain aspects of my health. I am adopted and have always been curious about my ethnicity. The process was easy to follow and I received the results in less time than promised - right before my birthday, which was the goal. A large part of why I purchased this was to receive the book, which I now see is no longer offered, which is disappointing. The health results were interesting, and not as generic as some reviews lead one to believe (for example, my reports indicates that sodium does NOT spike BP as it does with many; and strength training will not build muscle as it does with some.) I would have like greater detail on why the diet and exercise recommendations were made (why only beef listed under protein recommendations, for example) - they seemed far too tailored to my questionnaire responses than science based. Overall I found it an adequate starting point, but in hindsight, may have chosen a different company for greater specificity. ... show more
